20 March 2018

Tuesday Tidbits...
Gonna be a bit cooler today, kids, and that's how we welcome the beginning of Spring here in the Heartland
Well, it could be worse, like those on the east coast staring at another "nor'easter" slated to bring up to a foot of SNOW their way. I say never discount dear old Mother Nature.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us mostly cloudy skies, temps reaching to around 43 degrees, and windy conditions (which negates today's high temperature nicely).
So, without any further ado, let's get that morning drink and see what's been going on elsewhere...
*** First out of the bedroom is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
MARCH 20 -
---It's National Ag Day
(oh, they mean FARMING...I thought it was a periodic table SILVER thing)
---It's National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day
(better than FOREIGN type of HIV/AIDS?)
---It's National Proposal Day
(and my list of proposals gets longer every week)
---It's National Ravioli Day
(looks like Chef Boy gets a workout...heh)
---Spring Begins.
(find someone else to do a back-flip over this)
*** Next, and since it IS a Tuesday, let's look at ALL the FWPD calls we never heard about for last week, because the media was busy looking for things to pin on our president...

*** Next up, here's the skinny on WHEN the Aunt Millie's bakery (near downtown of course) is slated to shut down:
http://www.wpta21.com/story/37759399/final-day-for-aunt-millies-bakery-in-fort-wayne-will-be-april-12
Yep, another bastion of Fort Wayne history goes down the crapper.
And they're doing this to consolidate and save money (while losing jobs)...because that always works, right?
*** Next, two school systems are trying to recruit teachers. Here's that story:
http://www.news-sentinel.com/news/local-news/2018/03/17/fort-wayne-school-systems-trying-new-ways-to-recruit-teachers-other-staff/
Now, tell me WHY the school system is doing this, when they've been forcing teachers to LEAVE, because I'm not quite wrapping my brain around this nonsense.
Oh, they're trying NEW ways to recruit...like LYING and saying it's SO great a place to work?
Well, neither of these school systems are FWCS, so they might get some traction there with hirings.
The story does explain how FWCS recruits...basically they look to colleges and student teachers. In other words, those with YEARS of experience both within and without the system really need not apply.
Yeah, that's sure to burst the bubble of those young teachers after they get a few years of "experience" under their belts.
And that's what causes good teachers with decades of experience to leave...a system that doesn't care as much as it should ABOUT the educators, but rather statistical data and school grading. Helluva way to account for oneself.
*** Next up, Jefferson Pointe as been sold. Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20180319/WEB/180319815
Thing is, it's been sold BACK to the original developer. Now that's a bit novel.
Apparently, this is being done to counter the 20% vacancy rate at the outdoor mall.
Now, I always look at this as a "glass half empty" premise, because when malls start being sold, something is wrong someplace. I;ve yet to see an instance where a mall gets sold and does MUCH better for years after the transaction.
It usually means higher rental rates, changing stores, losing stores (and tenants), and eventually closing things down...not unlike the old Southtown Mall. I'd love to be wrong here, and see Jefferson Pointe "buck the trend" (in an age of online shopping), but we'll all have to wait and see what shakes out.
*** Next, time to stop by our "Kitten Corner"...
I iz all rammyed -out.
We had a decent day  with our kids, and neither of them got rammy...mostly. Gallifrey gets into these running from window to window things (when not chasing his "sister" around), and that can get annoying, because he doesn't watch for people walking through the house.
What's the temperature OUTSIDE?
Keeps me on my toes, that's for sure. Violet will chase him, but only sfter she's been chased.
*** Next up,  let's take time to check in with "Midnight and Company"...
Our furry twosome spent the day nearby the house, and were there for every meal.
I think they figure it's better to be safe than sorry in our neighborhood, and who can blame them?
Hell, I feel the same way.
Knowing the flotsam we have living around us, it's a good fit all around form them and us.
*** Last back to the living room...we got some crazy crap going on in the world.
And, it just seems to get crazier every stinking week.
Naturally, those wacky liberals are typically at the top of the totem pole when it comes to crazy.
Then there are the criminal crazies. If it's not child abuse, it's drugs, or homicides, or bombings in cities. We also have our assortment of socially-crazy, like all the illegal immigrants, and protesting students (or adults with childish mentalities)....we all know the type.
You name it.,.we seem to have it, and in greater abundance than any time in our past.
Why we can't just decide to put the lunacy away in the old toy box and attempt to get the hell along eludes me.
(Welcome to BIZARRO WORLD...)
It has to be a lot of bad choices being made out there. No other excuse (or reason) for that.
Naturally, with a decline in morality (and bad choice making), did any of us think things would pan out otherwise?
A serious rethinking of the manner in which we all conduct ourselves is in order.
Unless and until we all choose to pursue a saner and productive course, I can't see any end to the idiocy.
I suppose that will make a lot of folks uneasy. I just wish it would make the right people uneasy, instead of the rest of us.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

First question: You show D Mad Jack's chopper post? (LOL)

Chef Boy-ar-Dee? Sorry, I only do Ravs toasted anymore- I saw the light!

FWCS- so you're saying their hiring process makes them the Wal-Mart of education?

JefPt: The exictement and innovation that it started with faded rather quickly. How many overpriced kids clothing stores and nail and junk jewelry joints can you support? A mall these days needs to think outside the box, not climb inside it.

---Hey, what can I say?
I'm a sucker for a good "lead in".
---Well, I would forego Chef Boy as well, BUT, the restaurant I used to work at a LONG time ago in Philly is no more, so...
(those were fantastic!)
---I wouldn't give 'em THAT good a rank.
Either Dollar General or maybe even COSTCO...maybe (on a nice day)...LOL.
---Well said.
Glenbrook took a similar path a decade ago...TOO many clothing stores, and they LOST some really GOOD stores (like Suncoast Video, Hallmark, and Reader's World...just to name a few).
If society seems all about DIVERSITY, then by God, let's HAVE more stores that are diverse, and not cookie-cutter copies of one another.

Thanks for swinging by and commenting.

Stay safe (and beware the snow) up there, brother.

Bob,you know that Video Stores as such, went bye-bye years ago - although Suncoast Motion Picture Co. was closed as an economic casualty when owner Transworld Entertainment closed 150 stores during the 2009 Great Recession. Hallmark had to pare its size simply because people do not exchange cards like they used to do and Readers World was locally-owned, and like all small bookstores, it went away with the the growth of Amazon.

Great post, Bob G. Love the kitties. I might say they are fat cats. Both in cliche and true form. I love healthy animals! I worry about the fate of malls as well. In Casper, WY, THE mall is about empty. I think it is going to face devastation and will get closed down completely. The rent is too high and the owners will not fix the structural problems. Perhaps a wrecking ball is in order but seems a shame. No more indoor malls...just cold outdoor ones. The one here...pitiful. Not many stores left either.

---I know the majority of video stores are gone, but Sun coast had lots more than just DVDs. They DID sell DVD sets, and that was a nice and rare find...lots of various genres, as well.
I still miss Reader's World.
And the Hallmark store had those wonderful ornaments every year.
---I think when it comes to retail shopping, we're cutting off our noses to spite our faces.
The Internet comes with it's own problems, and unless those are corrected, that manner of shopping (there) could also take a hit.

Thanks much for stopping by to comment.

Stay safe out there.

---Yeah, I spoil the little buggers (that aren't AS little as they once were)...lol.
---I'd like to think that the age of malls WE knew are not totally gone.
(but I'm not driving to MN to the Mall of America...heh).
---I think everything that goes around, comes back around, and when people get tired of (eventually) rising costs of online shopping, as well as potential hacking from outside, we could see a resurgence.
---In the meantime, it's gonna be a long, hard wait.
