Monday Musings...
Welcome to this year's Summer Solstice, brought to you by none other than....the UNIVERSE.
Yes, friends, it's that time of year where we mark (basically) the longest day OF the year, as the sun appears to "stop" (as the ancients believed), and usually marked the change of season.
But you don't have to take my word when it comes to the geocentricities of our friend SOL, so if your head is feeling rather "eggier" than usual, bop on over here for the *4-1-1*:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solstice
This link also has all the cultural aspects attributed to the Solstice, and if by some chance, you have to urge to put fig leaves in your hair and prance around butt naked, hey, who am I to stop you. Just don't do it in front of your picture window (like some people in Fort Wayne prefer to do). That's just NOT good for the environment (or small children), kapeesh?
*** Today also marks the anniversary between Mrs. Bobby G. and myself (amazing how that works out).
It's been THIRTEEN years since we first tied the knot (I believe it was a half-hitch), and as many women know, as they proceed down the AISLE, arriving at the ALTAR to stand beside their future husband and look lovingly at HIM, they are thinking to themselves:
"...I'LL...ALTER...HIM...!"
I'll let that sink in for a moment, fellas...it IS still early for some...LOL.
Well let's see now...13 years. Seems a LOT longer, especially living in this neighborhood.
What do you get for the 13th anniversary?
Tradition says LACE, but I'm not a curtain kind of guy, nor do I like lace lingerie...too damn flimsy.
They also say FUR or TEXTILES.
Lemme see...nope, don't want a fur coat, OR a pet bear (even if he does a neat trampoline act)
As can be found HERE:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkIzeAH-4BY
Textiles, you say?
--Playful men's boxers or loungepants?
(rolls eyes)
...uh, I don't think so.
--Husband's favorite team sports clothing?
(they don't do CURLING apparel)...maybe a nice TAURUS or WALTHER hat?
--Donate to PETA?
(Sorry, but I subscribe to the PLEASE EAT THESE ANIMALS society)
And I also donate to the ASPCA already, as well as the Disabled American Vets.
I guess that lunch up at Red Lobster (1130 hrs. today up on Coldwater Rd, in case you wanna drop by and say "hi") will just have to suffice...yum.
I have found out that as the years rolls by (all too quickly, I might add), the "usual" special days take on less meaning, which doesn't say they MEAN less.
That's also NOT to say I don't remember them...I do.
Guys, (you can learn something here) NEVER forget the missus's birthday, or her anniversary...'nuff said, right?
You remember those TWO days, you're pretty much assured of remaining OUTSIDE the dog house.
But, as you get older, it does become "just another day" in many ways.
There's none of that "pomp and circumstance" that used to be associated with special days when you were younger.
Hell, I remember marking "monthiversaries" with a girl I dated in high school.
But that was when we were a lot less wiser, and had a lot less money.
Still, you mark the day on the calendar...force of habit, I guess.
Later this week is Wifey's birthday, so she gets a double-dip on special days.
I have to wait until AUGUST...(sighs).
Sounds like the military.,..hurry up...and WAIT (again)...LOL!
Nice to know some things NEVER change.
Now, yesterday was Father's Day, and I trust that all you guys that are called "mothers" the other 364 days were treated more civility by your S/O's and children. I suppose being a "father figure" to our cats counts...sort of.
SO, I did what was expected of me as a "dad"...I spent the morning mowing ALL the lawns, took a nap and then got up and made dinner (spaghetti and meat sauce).
Damn, I meant to have a Guinness with dinner yesterday and totally forgot.
Guess that means I have TWO of them today? I mean I will have to self-medicate for those aches and pains from mowing, right?
This is a "hurtin' for certain" Monday (as we used to say)...no doubt about that.
Ah, well...the world is still revolving, gravity hasn't gone away, and our sun hasn't done a shift into the RED part of the spectrum, so I suppose things are motoring along just fine, in spite of ourselves.
Things could ALWAYS be worse...that's one of Bob's laws (no relation to Murphy, BTW).
Thirteen years...wow.
You know, if you say it SLOW...it sounds ominous.
Okay, so none of this superstition crap...it's JUST a number.
I'm not going to fret about "luck", simply because I rarely have any...LOL.
I wouldn't wish MY luck on anyone that I cared about...that's for sure.
I've got the "Luck of the Irish" in that regard...and that means if there is ANY luck to be had, it's only in the HEART.
Which, being of Scottish and Pennsy Dutch decent, is one helluva prologue for any situation.
So here's to our 13th anniversary today.
May we have another 13 (at least), and with MY luck...well, we won't go there today, will we?
Let's just say that all things considered, the last 13 years could have been MUCH worse (the glass half full).
They could have been better as well, but we're both still here, relatively healthy, and appreciate our lives a lot more than so many others we see around us.

And we have a cool garden with lots of critters that stop by daily.
(Is that a banjo, lute, or a balalaika?)
Yeah...I'm feeling kinda fortunate, actually...and blessed.
Can't ask for much more, can you?
(but absolutely NO fur coats or playful boxers...please)
Have yourselves a great week.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay safe out there, America.

Dear Bob,
I can't imagine you henpecked, sir. (snicker) (giggle) ROFL!!

Knowing you, I expect you have a well-run domain that allows for discussion and cooperation, the wishes of all to be considered, only occasionally with raised voices and always with respect.

So Very Happy Anniversary to you and your Wife! I hope you enjoy Red Lobster, two pints of Guinness, properly spaced, and your beautiful, already-perfect lawn. I hope you take a nice drive in your great car together and have a Splendid day.

Sincerely,
Ann T.

Moi?
Hen-pecked?

SURELY you jest (and yes, I will stop calling you "Shirley"...LOL)

Actually, I DO love cooking, and like my Dad always said:
"If you want something done RIGHT...do it YOURSELF - and if you can't do it, ask the wife, because SHE probably CAN"!

A marvelous partnership we have, a blending of generational erudition (with a hint of mint...LOL)
And it operates rather well lo, these 13 years.

As for the Guinness...I had a Sam Adams Summer Ale for "brunch" today, but I have the *G* in the wings...cooling down for later.

Thanks for the kind sentiments...and for stopping by today.

The spaghetti dinner sounds like a winner.

Happy anniversary to you. I am glad I never did the monthiversary thing--I can't remember the annual one now.

One thing my Mom impressed on me was to always make the BEST spaghetti you can...get even the Italians envious...LOL.

ANd considering Mom was from an upstate farm in Pennsy, I have to admit her speghetti sauce DID had our Italian neighbors asking for the recipe.
(and I can say I've followed in her footsteps...but could never fill her shoes)

"She done good" - LOL!

Thanks for taking the time to stop on by.
