It's going to be another frosty day in Hoosierland with temps climbing WAY into the mid-30s...yepper, that's it.
At least the water dish I put out for the birds might not freeze back over AS fast.
Going to see mostly clouds today as well, with a good chance of slight snow flurries, but don't fret - no chance of ANY accumulation.
Still, it begs me to say that you should take care on the roads, streets and highways in the area, as black ice can (and will) cause problems while driving.
With that said, let's top off that warm morning beverage (I used scotch in mine) and see what's been going on since last we met.

I have to admit I DO like the manner that J-G reporter, Jeff Wiehe describes the life and death of a young Fort Wayne SE side thug.
There is this marvelous duplicity at work here...and the kind that typifies most every homicide "victim" with a checkered past.

He was shot dead at someplace he didn't even live at (just cribbin')
Yes, this is that very same (as family members tell) man who was "...a fun-loving prankster, quick with nicknames for loved one, a joyful man who left his past behind him, made those around him laugh, and a man who'd step up and be there when anyone needed him."
(Hmm...seems we already did that with someone not worthy of that prize...never mind then)
And if he did indeed leave "his past behind him"...it just wasn't far ENOUGH...was it?
I find it curious that he was the ONLY survivor of the TRIPLE SHOOTING at Rick O'Shay's back in 2010...and now HE'S dead, too. Like someone wanted to erase all trace of the incident, and who THAT shooter really was.
Geez, with ALL these fun-lovers out here, who the hell would have the time to DEAL DRUGS, or smack people around, or be arrested for carrying a handgun without a permit? You'd think this part of town would be FUN CENTRAL, right?
Well, it's about as far from THAT as East is from West at this point.
I'm sorry, but when you read about a white shooter, the family seems to have NO problem with coming forward and saying he had "Yeah, he had mental and anger issues", or "he CHOSE the life he led"...none of this denial crap that seems to follow those mentioned in this story.And that's pretty damn sad...to have one's head SO far in the sand that they can't face (or speak) the truth when it stares them in their primate faces.
But hey, that's what develops over time in such "sub-cultures", isn't it?
Fortunately, it's only a minority OF the minority that have to face such things.
I say YOU read the article, and YOU make the call.
What amazes me is that FWPD PIO, Mike Joyner says it happens all over town (homicides)...so that MUST mean that Fort Wayne really ISN'T a SAFE place...right, Mike?
I thought the city managed to CONFINE such activities on the SE side only?

A FWPD K-9 unit was unable to get a track from the location.
No injuries were reported,and no suspect descriptions were forthcoming.
The same place was hit back in September and several times LAST year.
I'll bet any CCTV cams will show something.
All I can say is expect more of this to happen as the season progresses and the lack of arrests emboldens these perps.

*** Lastly today, I mentioned DENIAL, and that's something too many people suffer from these days.
Even I, your blog-host am not totally immune to such things (and that's why I don't have a red "S" on my chest either).
It comes down to that balance of GAIN versus LOSS I mentioned in yesterday's post.
Denial will TIP that scale, and many times ever so slightly that we don't notice...at first.
It's when we come to enjoy placing our thumbs ON the scale and revel in the imbalance that we have issues.
If one were to wonder what to do under such conditions, I would point to the book of Proverbs in the Bible. Now, I'm not going into some religious diatribe...just pointing out facts.
Even if you look at this book from a historical or even philosophical viewpoint, you can learn MUCH from the wisdom in it.
And to DENY oneself of the ability to learn, and to understand, serves no earthly purpose, for our job every day is to become a better person than we were the previous day...isn't it?
Twain said it best - "Denial ain't just a river in Egypt", and we'd be wiser for believing that.

Well, they did give one to Yassir Arafat...
That is truly sad, if what the family said about the vic had a shred of truth. Sad because, why should he be able to show such love in his family "box" and such hate outside? Why, if he had enough brains to get his life together, couldn't he have done it before building a past that would catch up to him? Maybe if he had tried turning that love outwards, he'd be alive now. But clubbing is a dead end street, as is thuggery. Sadly, too many young people are content to live on it... while they can.

There's something very odd about many of these "families".
They often view the universe as a 3-square block area...and that's about it.
Everything else OUTSIDE is ignored...except when it comes to crime.
THAT is something that is kept AWAY from those "3 blocks" whenever possible.
And yes, you are correct...so mahy of those urban "universes" ARE indeed dead-end streets.
