Welcome to the middle of the week, and a full moon tonight (so you know what that means).
This is one of those "harvest" moons (or "blood moon" if you prefer), and it might be worth a look-see.
The Hoosierland weather will be wonderfully different from the last few days...not a hint of rain around, and we're drying out nicely. Looks to be a very nice sunrise this morning with temps rising into the low 60s. but there is MORE rain coming...as early as tomorrow.
So, get out and enjoy the day while you can.
Now, let's grab ourselves that morning cup of fortitude and get this show rolling, shall we?
*** First out of the corral today is our WHO SAID THAT? quote of he week:
"Courage is being scared to death...and saddling up anyway."
Seems everyone can use a bit more courage in their lives...no matter who you are, or where you come from, hmm?
So, who said that? The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch...
*** It's also time for our feature called "What the hell happens today,Bob?"
October 8 -
--Today is American Touch Tag Day, and it does refer to that schoolyard game called "tag".
--It's also Emergency Nurse's Day, so give a shout out to all those ladies(and guys) in the ER that make life continue for many.
--And, it's National Children's Day (according to one calendar), but I've also come across a few OTHER children's days throughout the year, so who's the person that's "double-dipping"?
And they didn't specify WHICH nation either...maybe it's Thailand?
Just don't celebrate by trying to hand out candy to ANY kids from your van...got it?
Anyway, moving on...
*** Kevin Leininger had a good article recently on the whole "climate change" debate and here's the link:
http://www.news-sentinel.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20140930/NEWS/140929617/1041/LEININGER
He makes some very good points, too.
I'm of the mind that says that the WORLD (aka Mother Nature) is in total control of our fate upon this planet when it comes to the environment...for the most part (nuclear annihilation and any other MAN-MADE apocalypse not withstanding).
The extinction of creatures throughout time happened LONG before we human "apes" came along, so we can't blame that on mankind...(or Bush).
I do believe that humanity can ADD to whatever problems are forthcoming on the planet, but we have absolutely NO control over such things as tectonic shift (and the earthquakes and tsunamis they often produce), and we certainly cannot change the course of the Earth around our sun, nor can we change the axial tilt of the planet to enhance barren areas ON the planet. We cannot move closer OR farther from the sun, either.
We're kinds "fixed" in space, as it were, as we travel around our galaxy...and NO amount of legislature, rules,. laws, or guidelines is gonna change that one iota...is it?
Even "I" am tired of the global warming BS. |
Well, I suppose it gives the leftists something to do, considering they can't muster much else in the way of moving humanity forward, right?
Kevin mentions that it was ONLY 40 years ago that scientists were warning us of "another ice age"...LOL.
I agree that we should do what we CAN to PROTECT the environment (good stewardship thing), but that doesn't mean changing out my incandescent light bulbs for one that need a damn HAZMAT team to clean up if I break one of those "curly-fry" bulbs.
So what if we have new technologies like LEDs that we now use in traffic signals...that also tend to freeze over, masking the signal worthless for drivers in colder climates, unlike those "old-fashioned" light signals that actually melted ice off of them
There IS reason to speak of, but even that can be taken to the extreme (we know who loves to do that), and when that happens, everyone else becomes unreasonable, excepting those who practice such reason in moderation and back it up with facts, logic, and truth.
*** Next, we go from GLOBAL warming to PERSONAL warming...of the home-heating variety with THIS story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20141008/LOCAL06/310089981
Imagine THAT...according to NIPSCO, pir Hoosierland natural gas bills will be 4% lower this winter. But we're also hearing about natural gas prices RISING...so what type of "offset" will we be seeing?
Remember, a while back, Da Prez told us that under his energy plan, consumer costs "...would necessarily skyrocket.".
Just LAST winter, propane prices shot through the roof, because of demand when that POLAR VORTEX hit the Midwest.(so much for that global warming thing)
And, if we get another severe winter (and we could likely have that occur again), I wonder what will happen to all these forecasts for pricing when demand rises? Should be a fun time, hmm?
*** Last back to the barn...remember when you were young and what (older) people said was TRUE? Your "elders" knew better, because they had been through stuff you, at that age, could only dream about.
And you took that to heart.
Now, I find that as an "elder", I do speak the truth, yet find fewer listeners than in times past.
It ALSO seems a lot easier to piss people off by telling them the truth than it used to be...lol.
In fact, many of my "contemporaries" (and too many young people) seem to be of the "malleable truth" mindset...they adjust fact, figures, and reason to "fit the venue"
I'm sorry, but there are things in life that are fixed...immutable...unable to be changed, and truth happens to be one of them and usually, the most important one.
Now, it's often been said that "truth is the first casualty of war", and that happens more frequently than I prefer, but each of us has to deal with truths every day in our lives...we're just not always aware of it.
When you see, read or hear something that just makes SO much (common) sense, how can other people exude disbelief?
I look at from the standpoint of DISTRACTION...too many people are distracted and therefore deceived as to what truth is...or should be.
And when people become that way, they also become pliable - able to be persuaded to follow fiction rather than fact, folly rather than reason, and yes, falsehoods rather than truth.
I miss days when our elders knew so much more, but maybe, we...each of us that still takes the time to SEEK out truth and hold fast to it, will be able to pass it along in the manner that those who came before us once did.
Sounds like a plan to me...all we need is the courage to do so.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

1- I KNEW IT! I Googled the quote and I WAS RIGHT!!!! (Dances the victory dance around the blog, knocking over fragile memes and spilling Bob's morning beverage)
2- "...more faith that fact..." LOL! Tell Leininger he can borrow my NDT picture with appropriate quote anytime he likes!
I swear you keep me informed and if I thought about missing something I can find it here. Whew. It felt like a Monday. No hump day here. I'm exhausted and frustrated with the world. I will get over it tomorrow. LOL
Chris:
You and Wifey go to the head of the quote class...a GOLD STAR for you both!
(careful with that dancin' stuff...LOL)
--Yeah, THAT so-called "faith" od theirs is like those who (also) peddle THEIR own version of "truth", right?
Hey, thanks for stopping by to comment today.
Stay safe (and light of foot while dancing) up there.
Momma Fargo:
When it comes to facts, I'm like a damn junk-yard dog...won't let go until I get to the "MEAT on that bone".
Nothing ever wrong with wanting to be informed, right?
We're getting more rain tomorrow (prepping my joints for the aches...lol)
Thank God there is always a tomorrow to look forward to, good weather OR bad, hmm?
Thanks much for rolling on up to comment.
You stay safe (and well-rested) down there.
