It's the middle of the week, and only 14 shopping days until Christmas.
(where the hell did THIS year go?)
Cripes, in no time, we'll be back to dealing with "celebratory gunfire" in our area, which the police don't really seem all that keen on getting a handle on, but that's a little further down the ghettohood road.
Our Hoosierland weather today will find us with a high only a few degrees warmer than it is this morning, which means slightly above freezing and into the mid 30s. Yep, still got clouds hanging out, but don't discount a peek or two from the sun. If there's a good side to this, it's no real precip in the area.
So, pull up a seat, rest awhile and kick back with a warm cup of your morning beverage of choice, as we see what the world has in store for us.
*** First out of the sock drawer today is our WHO SAID THAT? quote of the week:
"It is certain, in any case, that ignorance, allied with power, is the most ferocious enemy justice can have."
I think because of recent events regarding law-enforcement, communists and protesters making the holiday season nightmarish at times, this is quite appropriate and fits the venue.
So, WHO said that anyway? The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back at the social critic's corner...
*** And yes, it's time once again for 'What the hell happens today, Bob?"
December 10 -
---Today is DEWEY DECIMAL SYSTEM DAY
(a system I grew quite familiar with over the decades)
Anyone worth their salt knows what this is and HOW to work with it...if they've ever perused a LIBRARY.
---It's also HUMAN RIGHTS DAY, and many people don't realize that all TRUE "rights" we have come from a MUCH higher authority than any of those in Washington, D.C.
Don't see rioting, looting and anarchy in this lot. |
---And, it's NOBEL PRIZE DAY, and I can say that the prize sure doesn't seem to go to the MOST deserving among us these days...
He MUST be rolling in his grave. |
Sure come a long way from the days of Alfred Nobel, haven't we?
Moving on...
*** And what would a week be without our posting of all the signal 113s throughout Fort Wayne this past week?

Again, another BUSY week, mostly in the ghettohood...(as usual).
Nice to know the SOME things (including what passes for people down here) NEVER changes.
*** And speaking of shooting, here's more on that double shooting up in the near NW side of town:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20141210/LOCAL07/312099916/1043/LOCAL07
You be BUSTED! |
One Anthony "Tony" R. Jackson Jr, 21 (and still acting the child) was arrested in connection with the shooting that took place around 0100 hrs yesterday in the 1300 block of Goshen Rd.
Both victims were not found at the residence, but instead were taken to hospital by friends (a growing trend to not let police know where the shooting take place). Police located the residence by pinging a cell phone from a 911 call made earlier (the caller hung up).
The other victim's name has not been released.
Jackson is being held in the local jail in lieu of $35K bail.
No motive or actual location of the shooting was not available.
How about that....MORE black on black crime...who'd thunk?
*** Now, if you'd rather get some easy holiday money instead of shooting someone, here's a story about 2 robbers doing just that:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20141210/LOCAL07/312099907/1043/LOCAL07
"Merr Crimmus - gimme da munney!" |
The robbery took place at the Fifth Third Bank, located at 1230 Lincoln Highway in New Haven around 1330 hrs yesterday.
No one likes a SLOPPY robber...! |
*** Last back to the linen closet today...I think I've been bitten by the "Frozen" bug...it just took longer.
I might consider getting a DVD of it..the CGI alone looks spectacular.
(but I promise NOT to play it over and over and over as parents have to do for their children...lol)
Elsa from "Frozen" |
So, like any decent nosey-ass, I did some searching online, and I had a major case of Deja Vu.
This 2013 movie is an interpretation of the old Hans Christian Andersen story The Snow Queen, and I remember hearing that tale from MY childhood (some things you never forget, even decades later).
Interesting thing...in the original story THE LORD'S PRAYER is read...(check the plot for the tale...you know I'm right)
Somehow, I didn't think any of the movies (even Frozen) managed to do that...the atheists would be out in droves to picket the theaters...lol.
But, if people get back to reading some of the classical literature, they might find a lot MORE God in it than what we see today.
As we approach the season where we celebrate the birth of Christ, it should move us to seek the things that give the season it's meaning, and that might include getting to know just how MUCH God people around the world used to put into almost everything they did.
And...maybe if people came to a better understanding of things that REALLY matter, Christmas might start to look and feel more the way it used to be. It's just a thought, right?
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Great quote, Bob. Very appropriate in light of current events.
I can't help but laugh *a little* about that robbery. I have a real hatred for Fifth Third Bank. I had a car loan through that particular financial institution. They used to cash our payment checks, then start calling us about being "delinquent." Last time I'll ever do business with those dudes. Next time I'll borrow money from a loan shark or something. ;)
John D.:
It's gonna surprise a few people as to WHO that quote belongs to.
I know it surprised me when I looked up the person behind it.
As to the loans?
It used to be SO EASY to get a loan with a GOOD banking institution...until the FEDS put their 2 cents in.
I always steered clear of LOAN places altogether.
Hell, I borrowed against my OWN account to get MY first car...way back in 1975!
(and paid it off ahead of time).
THAT is how good credit got started.
Never had a problem since.
Try doing it that simply today.
I'm too old to jump through flaming hoops...LOL.
If you REALLY need a loan, I could ask around...someone probably knows those two robbers (and we know THEY got some cash handy).
J/K
But, I did used to know some South Philly Italians more than willing to "help out" in such cases.
(The interest could be a killer, though)
Hey, thanks for stopping by to comment.
Roll safe out there.
I think if I owned a bank, I'd give every teller a special "drawer" of poison-coated money just for these instances. May not be 100% effective at ridding the world of vermin, but I bet word-of-mouth would keep riff-raff out of my shop...
Chris:
Along those lines, I'd opt for a drawer of COUNTERFEIT money Safer than poison for tellers to handle)...with a tracking chip in it.
The robbers can have as MANY of those as they can carry...LOL.
Thanks for stopping by to comment.
Stay safe up there, brother.
