Humpday Happenings...
Welcome to the middle of the week, and what looks to be another fine day to be in the Midwest.
Things will pan out pretty much like the last few days, with one exception; the temps will be on the rise to around the 80-degree mark, so we might have to see if the A/C will find it necessary to turn itself back on.
Clear skies, nice breezes, and "plenty of sunshine comin' our way" (as the song goes).
So feel free to wear your rose-colored glasses...or even some 3D ones, as we all get our morning drinks and park them nearby so we can take a better look at what's going on in some other places.
*** First off of the carousel is our WHO SAID THAT? quote of the week:
"Moral authority comes from following universal and timeless principles like honesty, integrity, treating people with respect."
In keeping with what I've posted here about morality and it's importance in almost EVERY factor of one's life, I thought this one most apropos.
So WHO said it anyway? The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back at Utah State University...
*** Next is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
(and kinda like yesterday, there's a few things going on)
September 23 -
---Today is NATIONAL GREAT AMERICAN POT PIE DAY
I like the turkey and beef ones, and my Mom used to make a KILLER version with left over beef stew ( huge chunks of beef in that)
---It's also NATIONAL CHECKERS/DOGS IN POLITICS DAY
(with all the PORK in D.C., you'd think there'd be PIGS)
---And, it's RESTLESS LEGS AWARENESS DAY
(I am aware that Wifey has this going on)
---It's also CELEBRATE BISEXUALITY DAY
(to each his/her own, I suppose...wonder how that shakes out when they get to the Pearly gates?)
---And lastly, it's the AUTUMNAL EQUINOX, otherwise known as THE FIRST DAY OF FALL.
This happened about 0421 hrs this morning...
I know, it woke me up when it took place. I heard a thud.
Or that might have been just another one of those asshole boomcars driving past the "Fortress"...LOL.
(time to dig out the rake and keep it handy, hmm?)
*** Next up, a rather sad day for America and it's national pastime - Yankees legend YOGI BERRA has passed away at the age of 90.
Here's the story:
http://nypost.com/2015/09/23/yankees-legend-yogi-berra-dead-at-90/
And here is his WIKI:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yogi_Berra
Whenever you hear the saying "The game ain't over 'till it's over"...THAT was spoken by Yogi. He was a master of the malaprop.
His real name was Lawrence Peter Berra, the son of immigrants, and he was born NOT in NYC, but in (of all places) St. Louis, in an Italian area known as "The Hill".
He was (and still is) considered one of THE best catchers in baseball.
He was also a manager and a coach.
And he was someone MY generation looked up to with admiration and fondness.
Baseball will never be quite the same, and certainly will not see people of HIS caliber any time soon.
If there is ONE thing you can take from his career, other than his talent and ability...it's his QUOTES.
They are some of the MOST truthful, and laced with so much common sense.
NAILED that one, Yogi!
I'm gonna miss that.
Moving on...
*** Next up, the perp who shot a man at that Cap N Cork on Lewis St was caught and he has a rather lengthy police record (as could be assumed).
Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/Ex-beau-arrested-in-shooting-at-liquor-store-8952926
Nice "mug", LOSER!
Now, if a shooting doesn't involve drugs or money, you can BET that it will involve a "love triangle"...like THIS one did.
And when you visit an EX who is working at a store, and her NEW boyfriend comes in, the best thing is to LEAVE, but some people can''t get over that.
Well...this perp DID leave, only to come back with a gun and "take care of bid'ness".
Homer Tracey Richards, age 53, who was found at 416 E. Creighton Ave (also known to live at 505 E. Buchanan St) was arrested after a several hour standoff with the FWPD.
And he now has "3 hots and a cot" plus some very appealing ORANGE apparel and flip flops.
BTW, here is his "rap sheet":

==================================
Pretty nice "history", hmm? Been busy for quite a while, too.
He also had several addresses over the years (typical ).
*** Next up, looks like the FWPD will be getting BODY-CAMS for officers after all.
Here's this story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/Police-get-grant-for-body-cameras-8946189
As you could expect, this is being funded by a GRANT from (who else?) the FEDS.
Well, that takes care of the CAMERAS, right?
(so where is the "but" you're going to toss at us, Bob?)
Glad you asked...there is a HUGE BUT attached to this deal.
(larger than Micheal Moore's in fact)
The grant does NOT include something called DATA STORAGE.
With ALL the video being captured by these cameras, that storage WILL add up very quickly, and we're not talking a store that has a 30-day collection of DVDs that they rotate out every other month or so. When I was with (Circuit City) Loss-Prevention, I used to ride shotgun on that sort of stuff.
Now THAT is date storage!
We're talking the potential for YEARS of data to be stored, because certain allegations and cases against police as well as evidential material NEEDS to be kept.
This ain't CHEAP either, people..
Here's just ONE story that tells the tale:
http://www.policeone.com/police-products/body-cameras/articles/8243271-For-police-body-cameras-big-costs-loom-in-storage/
Yep...everything costs something, and THIS something will be another "costaplenty" venue.
We are talking MILLIONS OF BUCKS here.
And this is just the cost for THIS year.
So, the OBVIOUS question would be..."Where the f*ck is ALL that money coming from?"
Your guess is as good as mine, but we do need ALL this accountability for the POLICE.
Heaven forbid we hold CITIZENS to such high standards, right?
*** Last back to the hangar... One nice thing about life is that we encounter problems...and then we find ways to SOLVE them.
There comes a certain sense of accomplishment whenever that occurs.
And if we find we can't solve a problem, we might look to those who can, or even put that problem on "the back burner" for a spell (if possible) and return to it later, and then find we now have that solution.
There are few problems in the world that cannot be solved, and we already know what most of them are.
The problems we don't know about are those we haven't thought to ask about, or are not within our ability to solve at this point in time.
Everything does get sorted out sooner or later...our history has shown us that much.
What is bothersome is when other people try to solve problems without ever knowing WHAT that problem is.
They never take time to find the root CAUSE of a specific problem, but come along with ALL these "solutions", which wind up costing us money, time, effort, resources...you name it.
Oh, and that problem never does get solved...it just becomes costlier in the long run.
This is what occurs when people do not take the time to look at things from a critical and objective standpoint.
They'd much rather keep tossing crap at whatever wall is staring at them in the hope that SOME of it will eventually stick.
Not the BEST way to go through life, just the ONLY way (for some).
If more of us TOOK that time, and made a lot better (problem-solving) decisions based on fact instead of ideologies and emotions, we just might find a lot of answers easier to come by...AND a tad more "closer to home".
That makes all of us better off, right?
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

CHECKERS! Scrappy says HELL YEAH!

Pass on Bi Day.

Hopefully we'll have some decent leavery to look at by Oct. 16-17 for that walk. Right now, all we got is a red maple branch that's been red since the windstorm.

Dave Nightingale's piece on Yogi was very good. The APs apparent first notice of the death of "Yogi Bear" was not. Yogi, I will put it this way- he almost made you ashamed to hate the Yanks. Almost.

Homer, eh? D'oh!

I can't wait for the officer who first gets busted for having their cam disabled during a "nooner".

Nice quote by Kettering. Too bad most solutions never progress any further.

--Had a hunch Scrappy would be all over that one
--Yeah, me too!
--I'm counting on that...and I'm working on my walking stick, too.
--Those were the days when I just couldn't hate the Yankees...and I really WANTED to being a Phillies fan from that era.
('ya hadda be there)
--HOMER...sure ain't the ILIAD or the ODYSSEY (for him) hmm?
--Yeah, they'll either forget to turn it OFF...or turn it ON. Then we're kinda hack to square one, right?
--That is SUCH a shame, especially since we HUMANS are supposed to be the MOST evolved species on the planet (and I honestly wonder about that some days...lol)

Hey, thanks for dropping on by today to comment.

Stay safe & take care up there, brother.

Catererin:
I'm happy you got to watch some of the Pope's visit.
I think it's a great learning experience for young people everywhere.

I've been to a few HIGH masses (dated some Catholic girls a long time ago (some good stories there...ahem), and I can say that the masses are wonderful to watch.
I went to the Basilica SS Peter & Paul in Philly (along the Parkway), and that's the same locale this Pope will be visiting when he gets to Philadelphia this week.
That's not bad for this old Methodist.

As long as your BELIEF and FAITH is strong, you can do more than you realize.
(remember that).

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Stay safe out there.
