Okay, so now we can get back to the working week, short as it is, chalking up another Labor Day that I trust was to your liking.
We have one more day of this mini heatwave in the Midwest before we start a comfortable cool-down for the remainder of the week.
Our Hoosierland weather will again see us with temps reaching into the upper 80s (might hit 90...we never know), partly sunny skies which will increase as the day progresses into this evening when we are expected to get some showers that last into tomorrow.
That doesn't seem too bad to take, does it?
Anyway, let's get this show on the road as we get our morning drinks beside us, and take a look into what's been on my mind (as well as in the news).
*** First off of the laundry list is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
September 8 -
---Today is ANOTHER LOOK UNLIMITED DAY
Looks more like a bloody garage sale |
---It's also NATIONAL ANTS ON A LOG DAY
Looks like something worse. |
---And, it's NATIONAL PEDIATRIC HEMATOLOGY/ONCOLOGY NURSES DAY
(Could we just have included them in the general NURSES DAY?)
OY, sometimes I think some people have WAY too much time to waste (more than me, even)..
*** Next up, since it's Tuesday, we're going to see ALL those FWPD calls that the media didn't think was newsworthy enough to be sensational ("if it doesn't bleed, it doesn't lead", as the saying goes):

Sure nice to know we don;t have a people problem in this city....ROFLMAO!
(And if you believe that, have I got a deal on bridge in Manhattan for YOU)
Moving on...
*** If you read your TV guide this week, you'd see that the PBS station is rerunning Ken Burns THE CIVIL WAR all week at 9PM.
I've seen this every time It's come on (even videotaped it once, and still have the tapes), and every time I see it, I come away with not only a better understanding of the years that the war took place, but a much better insight as to the PEOPLE behind all the events.
I don't think anyone could JUST watch it once and glean ALL there is contained in the series.
Not to mention, it was a ground-breaking series that led to many other like films by Burns that covered many people and topics.
It's definitely worth another viewing (IMHO), and with this year being the 150th anniversary of the end to the Civil War, it's only fitting.
*** Next up, Labor Day in the ghettohood...well, for Wifey and myself, it wasn't bad.
The ONLY flag out. |
Most all the neighbors were someplace else...EXCEPT for the ONE problem house close by (isn't that ALWAYS the way?).
The one male asshole cribbing there just HAD to have music blaring with the garage door open...so he could annoy those of us that just wanted to have a PEACEFUL day.
That's ONE thing these people can;' seem to fathom - PEACEFULNESS.
Wouldn't recognize it if it came up and bit them on their waistband beneath their underwear-clad butt-cheeks.
And not ONE parking control vehicle to swing by and tickets violators. |
Wonder what their parents would think...or the grandparents?
(I have a feeling that cellmates would find it "inviting"..LOL)
Anyway, this idiot had people come and go most of the day, even had some parking in the alley while one person went into the garage for about a minute, then came out to get in the vehicle parked in the alley.
Even saw one care that parks at this house parked at ANOTHER problem house down our street.
And you TRY to tell the FWPD that these are drug houses (because they fit ALL the signs of one), but nothing ever seems to get done to close them down...it just keeps going on, year after year, and we're supposed to believe our mayor when he talks to this "quality-of-life" bullshit?
Sorry, your highness...just not "feeling the love" on that one.
*** Next, there was an amusing story in yesterday's paper about the lack of research when it comes to the "worst time to eat" in the Mind and Body section of the J-G.
Here's the link:
http://www.journalgazette.net/features/Worst-time-to-eat-debatable-8421867
Alright, I can figure this one out with half my brain tied behind my back.
There are PLENTY of times that are just plain WRONG to eat...for example:
--When SKYDIVING.
--When DROWNING.
--When DRIVING.
--When wrestling an alligator or crocodile.
--When either being robbed OR robbing someone else.
--When undergoing SURGERY.
--When PERFORMING surgery.
--When falling down a flight of steps.
--When riding a ROLLER-COASTER.
...And that's just the SHORT list...lol.
See, it doesn't take a line of initials after your name to figure things like THIS out - just a decent sense of practicality (along with trial and error).
*** Next up, the Yankee Lady, a WW2 era B-17 bomber had her day in Huntington, Indiana over Labor Day.
(And they never seem to overfly our house, unlike the airliners that come over TOO damn low for my comfort).
She's based in Belleville, Michigan, and she has her own WIKI:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yankee_Lady
And here's the website for the organization that takes care of her:
http://www.yankeeairmuseum.org/b17_flying_fortress.php
It's a very interesting history behind this aircraft..worth a read.
*** Last back to the hangar...I really have to smirk at all the people that feel a "change" is needed when it comes to our youth, or our neighborhoods, or anything else that seems to strike THEIR fancy these days.
And, as can be expected, while their intentions are noble, there is an inherent flaw with the method to which such people want to address these issues.
After all, we ALL know that the road to hell is PAVED with good intentions, right?
People always want to look to the THINGS that impact a societal problem, when they SHOULD be focusing on the HUMAN CONDITION itself.
THAT is where the real issue lies...with the PEOPLE.
(always has been and always will be)
We talk about the simple things like making better CHOICES, or we should be doing that, but it seems to be much easier to look at inanimate objects that affect the people. And you know what I mean - cars and guns are the first two that always come to mind, especially guns.
And, it's pretty damn easy to BLAME things that have no soul and are inanimate...because they can't "fight back", as it were.
THEY have no voice, and therefore cannot launch a counter to whatever is spoken against them.
People on the other hand, WILL speak up, and can be quite passionate about their stance on a given issue.
Like that letter to the editor said yesterday, the HEART of man(kind) needs to change.
People have to re-learn what it is to act in a civil manner, and extol ethical behavior, because they have decided it was better (read easier) to assess blame to someTHING rather than someONE.
Things cannot act on their own.
They need someone to act "on their behalf" so to speak.
Guns do not kill by themselves - people shoot them (at others).
Vehicles do not kill by themselves - they need someone impaired holding the wheel.
Again, you don't need a slew of degree initials after your name to skull this one out.
All you REALLY need is an open mind, open eyes and open ears.
And in life, that should be enough to get anyone started on the right path.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Shots fired again? Haha. Does it ever stop? Love your neighborhood pics. I do have to wonder if your peeps ever left and quiet people moved into the area...what would you do? And we would miss all the action. Have a great day, Bob! Hope your weekend was fantabulous!
Momma Fargo:
Nah, it never seems to end, but I do recall a time before it really STARTED (around here).
What would I do if our part of the ghettohood became a more EVOLVED and CIVIL neighborhood once again?
Well, I would simply LOVE IT, and I would not miss "keeping track" of the idiots one damn bit.
(the ACTION would just go someplace else and bother a new batch of decent people)
But the current crop of morons we have NOW require CONSTANT vigilance.
Overall, the weekend was pretty good.
(shame a few always have to spoil it)
Thanks for rolling up today and commenting, Kiddo.
You have a good week & stay safe down there, dear.
You know me, I hadda look it up- Another Look is basically supposed to be the autumn version of spring cleaning- "Taking another look" at the junk you've accumulated. This could be the dumbest non-liberal reason for a national day you've found us yet!
Ants on a log- we used to throw a LOT of those away in school.
Ken Burns Civil War- one of the most well-done docs ever put together.
On worst time to eat- I saw a boss at my old job in front of the urinal with a sandwich in hand. Top that.
Chris:
--Autumn cleaning, hmm?
For me, it's damn near a YEAR-ROUND "occupation"...LOL.
Home-ownership = job-security.
(pay is okay, hours are decent, and I can take lunch whenever I want)
--After seeing what it IS, I can understand WHY.
--That it IS, the only thing that "dates" it for me, is that a few of the historians are no longer with us - a true loss.
--As far as grossness...not likely.
(an easy DOZEN reasons WHY that's nasty as hell)
Thanks much for taking some time to swing by today and comment.
Stay safe up there, brother.
