Thoughts For Thursday...

You can almost feel, smell and taste the weekend by now, can't you?
Even with a Monday holiday, it seemed like a long week.
Hang tough - we're almost there, folks.
Our Hoosierland weather has us with slightly lower temps.
Highs today will top out around the 80 degree mark.

It does bear repeating.

We'll also have mostly to partly cloudy skies and no precipitation around.
(like all that rain we didn't get yesterday.
(Cripes,  I piss more than those so-called "showers"...lol).
So what say we all get that drink we've been wanting poured and parked close by as we see what's going on, hmm?
*** First out of the water bowl is the answer to yesterday's WHO SAID THAT? quote:

This was spoken by JOHN MILTON ( 9 December 1608 - 8 November 1674) who was an English poet, polemicist, and man of letters, and a civil servant for the Commonwealth of England under Oliver Cromwell.
He wrote during a time of religious flux and is best known for his epic poem PARADISE LOST.

His father, composer John Milton Sr.was disinherited by HIS father for embracing protestantism, so John Jr's life got off to a rocky start when they moved to London.
Still, the elder Milton did well as a composer and managed to provide a tutor for his son, who came to have a lifelong appreciation  for music.

Milton graduated from Christ's College in Cambridge with a B.A. in 1629.
Much of the WIKI is devoted to Milton's life and the history that was changing around him.
It wasn't until 1667 that his magnum opus, Paradise Lost was published, but by then, Milton was both impoverished and blind. He dictated the verse to aides who were in his employ.
The sequel, PARADISE REGAINED was published around 1671.
The balance of the WIKI  deals with the many aspects OF Milton's greatest work, as well as his legacy. It's a good read. I always like finding out about the person behind such works.

The trial (finally) of Charles Benson, notorious shooter (remember 2014 on Eby St?) and perp who tried to gun down an FWPD officer(during a foot pursuit) got underway yesterday, and should wrap up today.
Any bets as to HOW SOON that jury comes back with a GUILTY verdict?
Love to see this guy go away...for a VERY long time (and very far away, too).
In other words - lose the damn key to his cell.

This took place early Tuesday morning at the Phillips 66 station located at 249 E. Rudisill Blvd (yeah, it's the ghettohood). After demanding money, the suspect fled without taking anything.

He got into a vehicle parked behind the store and is still in the wind.

Any bets that wasn't even a REAL gun?
People tend to be a lot less "brave" when they're not packing REAL heat.

An employee was pistol-whipped during the robbery.

*** Last  back to the kibbles bowl...I wonder when people in this city will ALL wake the hell up and realize that we DO indeed have a criminal problem, and with few exceptions, it is centered primarily in the BLACK community.

Sorry, no getting around that FACT, is there?
Considering that blacks account for LESS than 30% of the total population in and around Fort Wayne, and yet commit more than 80% of all the crime, one has to conclude that something IS dreadfully wrong here.
Now, we can run with yesterday's arson perp who claimed "he didn't have anything else to do", and then count ALL the damn programs in this city created for JUST such eventualities for the YOUTH in ethnic communities.
The math here speaks for itself.
There is PLENTY "to do", and no excuse for such reprehensible behavior, right?

Makes some people more equal than others.

But, in those communities, it's MUCH easier to be a dumb shit, than to even TRY to make oneself better.
Add to that, the cavalier manner in which our (in) justice system seems to work in this city, and it;'s little wonder there is no REAL concern (and definitely NO respect or regard to law enforcement or the penal system.

The perps keep plea-dealing their way to lower sentences and time off, only to return to our streets and start THEIR particular brand of shit ALL over again. How is that making ANYONE safer in Fort Wayne?
Short answer - it's NOT.
Time for EVERYONE concerned to speak out and do what ever is necessary to get these criminals OFF the damn streets, and hold ALL to the same standard when it comes to behavior in public. Toss in some STIFFER sentencing for specific crimes, and while you're at it, get the prosecutor's office downtown to go our and BUY SOME BALLS.
They seem to need a few sets, preferably made from BRASS.
You can stick skyscrapers by the dozen downtown, revitalize ALL the damn riverfront, and it STILL WILL NOT stop the levels of crime we're seeing.
Better to focus on the REAL problems in this city, rather than manufacture "solutions" for problems that never exist.
