Friday Follies...
End of another week at last, and hopefully, we can end it on as good a note as is humanly possible..
We are due for the first "hard freeze" of the season tonight, so get prepared to say bye-bye to any plants you might have outside, unless you decide to haul them indoors or protect them from the cold.
I'm kinda getting accustomed to "losing" things, so it's not that big a deal anymore to me.
Our Hoosierland weather for today will see us with partly sunny skies, temps reaching to around 53 degrees (jacket or sweater weather to be sure), and some light breezes bringing down whatever leaves are still left on the trees.
Now, let's get that cup (or glass) of Friday Fortitude poured as we set out to see what's been going on elsewhere...
*** First up the flagpole is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
NOVEMBER 11 -
---Today is Veterans Day
(more on that farther down)
---And, it's National Sundae Day
(Sundae on a Friday...what...people aren't confused enough already?)
Since it's week's end, let's take a look at what is observed over the following 48 hours:
NOVEMBER 12 -
---Saturday is National Pizza w/ the Works (except anchovies) Day
(I'm a traditionalist, so I'll pass before I puke)
---And, it's National Chicken Soup For The Soul Day
(sorry, my "soul" has lost it's appetite of late)
NOVEMBER 13 -
---Sunday is National Indian Pudding Day
(traditionally American - call it a colonial offshoot of hasty pudding - Google it.)
There you go then...all you need to know. Stay outta trouble.
*** Next up, more protests over Trump's election victory (rolls eyes)...
Here's the story from FOX:
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/11/10/thousands-take-to-streets-in-major-cities-to-protest-trump-election.html
You know, if these leftards would just take HALF the energy they've expended thus far while "protesting" and devote it to something MEANINGFUL and PRODUCTIVE, rather than playing "anarchist", this country could get back on course in a damn WEEK!
Just because you don't get YOUR OWN WAY, doesn't give you the "right" to burn and pillage major cities across this nation. Last time I checked the Constitution, everyone DID have the right to PEACEFUL PROTEST.
I mean, we're not trying to start a bloody "coup" here...or are they?
Such stupidity (funded no doubt by George Soros) is destined to fail...miserably.
You had that chance at the voting booth and face it, you lefties blew it...you were outnumbered, so maybe you need to rethink your priorities in life, and get off that socialist horse you're trying to ride and become REAL Americans once again...or is that TOO much to ask?
I'm not a fan of Trump, and my thought is that he might get bored with the whole "art of the deal" here.
But, it's the choice the majority wanted (and voted for) and so we suck it up and make the best we can of it.
The sun and moon will still cross our skies, birds will keep chirping and the morons will keep doing stupid shit. That's the way things work. Your job is to do and be the BEST you can, regardless of what transpires around you.
Moving on...
*** Next up, I've been hearing media sources state that Trump is this nation's FIRST NON-POLITICIAN to become president.
Goes to show that many in the media simply DO NOT KNOW what a damn HISTORY book is these days. And people actually believe what these "professionals" say...that's the real crime committed here.
Anyone remember the name Washington? What about Grant? Eisenhower ring a bell?
Better yet, let's just go HERE instead:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Presidents_of_the_United_States_by_occupation
Or, let's try HERE:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Presidents_of_the_United_States_by_previous_experience
Now, take away any and all who were LAWYERS (usually a precursor to political aspirations), and look at all those who were not formerly "politicians" out of the starting gate...got a good number, right?
The lack of intelligence by so-called professionals in the media is as astounding as their lack of the truth in what is passing for journalism these days..
*** Next, I spoke a bit soon regarding our leaf pickups.
Yesterday, the workers came by our side street, and did NOT use the leaf-vacuum.
They had the front-loader and a couple "rakers". Now, I'll take that to mean that "someone" downtown MUST be reading this blog...lol.
And, I have to say they did a pretty decent job to boot.
We even had a street sweeper follow up...that damn near blew my mind.
Still, they COULD have used the rakers and front loader on our main street.
Wonder why the change-up?
We still have leaves that have yet to fall...mulch for the lawn? Guess so.
*** Next up, so when you're feeling low over the loss of a beloved pet or two (and another potential pet that went missing for no reason), what is there to do in all that "down time" you have?
Well, you take to doing useless shit, aside from snapping photos of the leaf pickup crew, you also take pictures of action figures.
Doesn't take much time away from feeling depressed, but it kills a few minutes here and there.
I will admit to not seeing any squirrels over the last couple day either...like someone is snatching up all the little furries around here all of a sudden. We still have the birds coming around and they apparently love the cat food I put out. Now who woulda known THAT, hmm?
Add some "Kit and Kaboodle" to the bird seed (and bread) they're eating. Oh, and they like potato chip crumbs, too.
*** Last back to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier...yes, today IS Veterans Day.
Here's the skinny of the holiday and how to observe it:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veterans_Day
Actually, this used to be called Armistice Day (if you're as old as I am and remember that).
I was two years old when it was changed from Armistice to Veterans (thank Ike for passing that in 1954).
And, originally, it was always celebrated on the 11th of November, but in 1971, that was changed to being observed on the 4th Monday of the month of OCTOBER. I remember my Dad personally found that offensive.
Later, in 1978, it was changed BACK to it's original date in November. If the 11th falls on a weekend, then it's celebrated on the adjacent Friday or Monday, respectively. Dad never lived long enough to see that happen.
It was a decade of too much "change for change sake" (imho).
Still, we observe all those who have served in our military, living OR deceased.
And it's right and proper that we never forget to do so.
I won't belabor the point nor reason behind why our veterans deserve our thanks...
I believe that is all too obvious.
I think that every breath of air you take in this country will speak louder and with more purpose than they ever could. We enjoy OUR liberty and freedom because of THEIR service and THEIR sacrifice.
Therein lies the lesson for today.
Have yourselves a good weekend.
Be well, make a difference to someone (perhaps a vet) today, and as always...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

---I'm serious (and that's something the world's NEVER ready for...lol) when it comes to these KIDS.
They're still having trouble finding their asses with BOTH hands, and THEY think they're being slighted here?
Gimme a break. They need to learn to WIPE THEIR OWN NOSES for a change.
---Yeah, Indiana takes a LONG time to fix stuff...all that damn O/T! Our tax dollars at work?
Must be nice.
---And yep, the "leafers" did a decent job, considering they probably make as much as a LEO.
---I will try to have as good a weekend as I can. I do appreciate the gratitude.
And thank YOU for rolling up today and commenting.
Have yourself a good weekend & stay safe down there, dear.

So yesterday (Friday) was super busy, and the Grandpeanut was here to visit. I remembered I hadn't hit you up on our Saturday morning walk, and promptly forgot until now. So, let's have a look-see...

You know about "truth" in media and "journalistic integrity." Did you see the statement by the boss at the NYT today? He basically apologized to his readers for being to caught up in their misinformation campaign to realize that people had a REASON to vote for Trump, and vowed to return to a semblance of "journalistic integrity" once again so they wouldn't get caught again with their pants off.

So, who needs intelligence? That's only necessary if you are striving to make analysis based on reality.

I'm going to posit something to you Robert, and I hope you take it for something constructive. You know these animals sense stuff that we don't... and look at how you have been feeling and acting since Rassie passed. They SENSE this. Your gloom may be the thing keeping them away. Not saying you don't have reason to be depressed- you do- BUT it's time to start shaking it off and face the sunshine again. Lift the cloud, and the fur babies will likely wander back. Get back to the joy you had that attracted them in the first place. Been long enough, man. Get back to healthy, be the American you urge us on to be. You CAN do it.

Chris:
Not to worry. Family comes first.
---If the NYT is looking to return to some level of "integrity", they'd have to go back to the early 70s...if not farther back...lol.
---That's my Achilles heel - analysis based on reality.
Weird, huh? One of life's "curses".
---I'll look forward to you message. I've tried to "put on that happy face", and have come to grips with the failure attached to that at this time.
It's all I can do by running on "auto-pilot" every day.
I get by, but all that "comfort of the familiar" has gone.
What's done is done, and I no more reverse that than I can stop the tides from rising and falling.
But, we soldier on.

Thanks for the encouraging words and for taking time to drop by and comment.

Do stay safe up there, brother.
