Humpday Happenings...

Welcome to the middle of the rolling week, and if you thought it was cold out there this morning, you were correct.
Thing is, it will be colder tomorrow. Yeah, we're getting close to that thing called WINTER.
Our Hoosierland weather for today will see us with partly cloudy skies (my God, I think I'm seeing a SUNRISE out there), light winds and a high of only around 34 degrees. Better make that light jacket a heavier one.
That wind chill is making it feel like 15 degrees as we start the day.
Now, let's make sure to get something hot when it comes to our morning drink, because we're going to need it, as we see what's been going on elsewhere...
*** First off of the frosty window is our WHO SAID THAT? quote of the week:
"Of all the characteristics needed for both a happy and morally decent life, none surpasses gratitude. Grateful people are happier, and grateful people are more morally decent."

I think at this time of year, and perhaps especially for today, such words have the ability to echo far beyond our mere mention of them.

---It would appear that we notched homicide number 47 last night for County Allen/Fort Wayne.

This took place around 2200 hrs in the vicinity of E. State Blvd and California Ave.

Police were responding to a call about a shooting in the parking lot of the State Grill on East State Boulevard and found one person suffering from a gunshot wound, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other people, who could be suspects in the shooting, arrived at hospitals suffering from gunshot wounds shortly after the incident, a police spokesman said.
One was reportedly in critical condition.
The other was listed in serious condition.

Caught after a home invasion last Thursday was  Davon “Dee” W. Hawkins, Jr., 22, of the 100 block of Lexington Court. The story (erroneously) says he and another man were armed with "automatic" handguns...WRONG.
Let's try SEMI-auto instead, okay?
Get the facts straight, folks.

---This other perp was caught after a FWPD officer stopped him for a non-functioning license plate bulb (OMG...they STILL do that? Amazing!).
Katrell J. Perry, 23, of the 1000 block of Columbia Avenue was arrested after police found him to be in possession of a firearm.
The traffic stop was conducted (also last Thursday, around 0100 hrs) at Reed Street just north of East Creighton, and police discovered Perry was driving with a suspended-infraction learner’s permit and was a convicted felon prohibited from possessing a gun. And they found two loaded guns after they persuaded Perry to get out of his 2001 Pontiac Grand Am.
In his left side shorts pocket was a Raven Arms P25 .25-caliber semi-automatic handgun. In his right side pants pocket, police found a black Glock 22 .40-caliber semi-automatic.
(bet he didn't BUY either one legally) Never know who's "just driving" around the city, right?

Didn't stop and check the PAY GRADE before you decided to run for the position?
How dumb can you get, anyway? And you're not even licensed as a surveyor?

Just take the $47K and be GRATEFUL you have employment, you jerk.

Their innocence of discovery often leads to the alter of consequences.
Like when Gallifrey has to play with my slippers, or when Violet decides to pick a "perch" that has about as much stability as the Obama economy in America.
They are learning much about the whole "what you sow, you will reap" aspect to the "Fortress". But, you simply just cannot stay angry at them.

Well, I like watching you read.

And I often think they KNOW that...lol.
Maybe this is more of a JOINT learning experience for all of us. I know I'm learning to RE-LEARN a lot.
*** Last back to the wheelhouse...today we remember Pearl Harbor, and the attack the Japanese empire conducted on our military stationed there 75 years ago today.

It was those events which took place back in 1941, which led to our (next day) declaration of war against them and caused our direct involvement in WW2.

This covers much of the attack waves , the damages, and the plans leading up to the attack.
What is still highly debated is whether or not FDR sat on intelligence he allegedly received, in order to allow America to enter the war.

The History Channel has had it's share of shows devoted to this day, and understandably so.

We need to remember, especially in times like today, when our attention span seems to lack the longevity we should have concerning events such as this.

The number of surviving veterans also continues to dwindle, and with them, the accounts of what took place that Sunday morning. Fortunately, for posterity, many of the stories have been related and are now a part of our history, as well they should be.

Today was a day that will indeed live in infamy, and in that, we are required by those who went before us, to preserve the memory of the events that occurred, as well as the memories of those who perished and those who survived.
May this day never cease to become the learning experience we need as a people...and as a nation, bound to the preservation of freedom and liberty.
