Humpday Happenings...
Welcome to the middle of the week once again...and almost the middle of the month.
(I still like when that happens)
If you noticed a bit more dew on the ground or car this morning, then yes, we did have a slight bit of rain overnight.
(won't have to water the lawn today either)
Our Hoosierland weather sends us some mostly cloudy skies, scattered showers, and temps topping out around 70 degrees.
Could be worse, right?
So then, let's get things rolling with a nice glass or cup of midweek bliss, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First out of the junk drawer is our WHO SAID THAT? quote for the week:
"These things will destroy the human race: politics without principle, progress without compassion, wealth without work, learning without silence, religion without fearlessness and worship without awareness."
Now this sums up what much of humankind is suffering from, and not just here in America.
Would we become so much wiser if we took such words to heart and decided (as a species) to change for the better. So, who said that?
The answer at the top of tomorrow's post. Meanwhile, back at The Society of Jesus (in Bombay)...
*** Next up, time to see to our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
SEPTEMBER 13 -
---It's National Kids Take Over The Kitchen Day
(sorry, not gonna take place at our house)
---It's National Peanut Day
(and here I thought this was about either grandchildren OR owls)
---It's Uncle Sam Day
(he's been taking a beating over the last couple decades)
---And, it's my Mother's Birthday.
She's been gone since 1998 (twenty years after Dad passed) and would have been 95
(I still miss you, Mom...every day).
*** Next up, two men have been arrested in connection with a liquor store robbery.
Here's the story link:
http://wane.com/2017/09/12/two-arrested-for-liquor-store-theft-after-police-chase/
Damion Lamar Guy     Edward James Hope
(the video with the OPS MGR for Belmont Beverage has a great take on this...worth a watch)
These two are a bit OLD to be responsible for the rash of break-ins around town (previous videos show younger men robbing various stores during the overnight hours).
Another thing, both of THESE perps have pretty long rap sheets (one of them going back to 1988), but have been "quiet" since 2011. They were definitely selling the booze on the BLACK market (heh), and the hooch was most likely winding up at those "after-hours clubs" around town (that the police can't seem to find and shut down).
*** Next, we may be looking at that magic number - HOMICIDE NUMBER 25. Here's the story (so far).
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20170913/WEB/170919980
This took place around 0330 hrs this morning at an apartment in the 4900 block of Northcrest Drive.
The scene of the stabbing death
(and yes, a stabbing death counts, too.) Not much else is known at this time.
((UPDATE - An arrest was made in the stabbing death.)) Here's the story
http://www.wpta21.com/story/36355278/fort-wayne-police-investigate-apparent-stabbing-death
The person in custody is a 49-yr old white woman (who looks to have more that a few "miles" behind her)...nasty.
*** And an update to the D/B found in the St Mary's river last week.
Here's the link:
http://www.wpta21.com/story/36339094/digging-deeper-man-found-in-st-marys-river-was-focus-of-fwpd-dcs-investigation
Looks like the dead man was wanted in connection with a case of shaken baby syndrome...
*** Next up, (Willie) Amos isn't so "famous" now that he's been sentenced.
More like INFAMOUS. Here's the story:
http://wane.com/2017/09/12/man-sentenced-for-post-crash-shooting-of-woman/
Yep...at least 46 years for shooting a woman he chased down...serious violent felon with a handgun...SECOND time around, too for this piece of crap.
Here's a novel idea...try to KEEP his sorry black ass in jail THIS time around, hmm?.
*** Next, our highness "king" Henry (the last) was at another event yesterday (so who runs the city?). Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/20170913/local-officials-celebrate-new-trail
Oh. boy...new trails (because THAT is what brings jobs, wealth and growth to any city...just like new riverfront stuff).
And this was on the SOUTHEAST SIDE...(which normal people won't be able to utilize without a police escort).
Guess urban gardens are next (like in Detroit)?
(("Continuing to build trails is important to make Fort Wayne a more livable city", said City Councilman Glynn Hines, D-6th.
“I think the trails allow individuals to get out and exercise and have fun and live long, healthy lives,” Hines said. “We're really glad that the south-side portion is being completed.”))
Right Glynn, and having YOU think is making MY quadrant of the city SO much more "livable". NOT!
The only exercise I'm seeing is wandering black males, overweight welfare baby-mamas, and black kids tossing rocks at houses (when not climbing on vehicles or patio rooftops)...not EXACTLY exercise, is it?
Wonder when the first assault along that trail will take place?
Some people are a real waste of protoplasm.
*** Next up,  a Garrett Credit Union robbery makes the news. Here's the link:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/20170912/police-looking-for-garrett-bank-robbers
Now, while the robbers were NOT specifically ID'ed, there are
clues...like that bare wrist.
The picture quality isn't that great, so there's not a lot to work with. I can;t even ID the pistol used (and I know my handguns).
*** Next, let's leave all the stupid behind us and visit "Kitten Corner"...
Our kids had a good day with such nice weather. We can open the screen on the back door and they look outside.
That's when they're not at the window perch grabbing a nap, or waiting to get fed.
*** Next up, let's check in with "Midnight and Company"...
Our furry feline friends are always right outside awaiting their first meal of the day., Midnight will be done with his medication on Friday, and you can see so much improvement...he' chasing the laser (at dusk), and spends more time around the house, which lead me to believe that he knows who helped get him better.
Whiskers is her usual self...always there with a few leg rubs to show appreciation. She still gets skittish when she hears a loud noise, but easily gets over it. I try to spend some time with them both during the day, and I think they prefer to stick close to the "Fortress", which is fine by me, given the nature of the locals in our area.
*** Last back to the linen closet...How do we measure progress today?
Is it what the latest smart-phone can do or when it will be coming to our stores?
Is it the method by which we can destroy one another with increasing efficiency?
Is it the way we can call ourselves more "tolerant"...or "diverse"?
I think it's really none of these, and that's because I really am not seeing that much progress when it comes to HUMANITY.
Sure, we get all the newest toys, bell, whistles and gadgets, and from a technological standpoint, that IS progress, but how is that effecting US...you and I...? Is all this making US better people, or just making life easier?
In many cases, life is getting HARDER, for we have to deal with the abuse of those technologies.
And, naturally, we also have to deal with a more permissive society in general.
THAT is not what one would call progress...it's more like the reverse (which seems to be the direction a lot of folks (and nations) are headed.
A smarter world with dumber people is NOT progress.
That's why we need to temper the technology with the foundation blocks of humanity.
We still (and always will) need ethics, morality, integrity, honesty...you get the idea.
Without those leading the way, humanity will find itself lost REAL fast.
And being lost is never fun...no matter how many diversions we have to minimize the situation.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

---It's another "newbie" and even IF it wasn't said THAT long ago, he probably IS spinning in his grave to today's world.
---They already DO that...EVERY day.
(at least TWICE)
---She and Dad were quite the couple, and they really loved one another. Hope I managed to make 'em both proud.
---ROFL...now that you mention it...(This is the BIG one, Lizabeth!)
---ONE word came to mind (w/ apologies to Scrappy) - WOOF!
---We should have bodies OF water...not bodies IN water (especially the D.O.A. ones)
---I dunno...he's too tall, gun's too small, and the hat's ALL wrong.
(maybe a great great grandkid???)
---Well, (again) Now that you mention it...(it's in the works...stay tuned)

Hey, thanks much for stopping by today to comment, and to bring along some "smileage" (Bob's Lexicon).

Stay safe (and hopefully dry) up there, brother.

Momma Fargo:
---Wow, that IS cool to know that.
Talk about similarities, how about THIS one:
My Mom's first name was spelled EXACTLY the same as yours!
(which is not the usual spelling).
---I heard summer is making a comeback this weekend...one more day to go!
---Hey, I do MY best not to off the locals...can't help them offing one another.

Thanks for rolling up today to comment.

Stay safe down there, Dear.
