Here we are...end of the week, start of the month, and rapidly arriving at the half-way point of the year.
How's that for a short yet comprehensive look at today?
Makes for a lengthy post, I'll grant you that.
We've got a fully loaded gig here with all these "days" to observe. We even got some other items of note (which you may ponder at your discretion)...s little something for everyone.
Our Hoosierland weather brings us partly sunny cloudy skies, increasing clouds, and perhaps some scattered showers later in the day (have no idea when), our high today will climb to around 85 degrees. And yes, we STILL have lots of humidity around.
Now, since we have a really full boat of "stuff" to take care of, let's get this show on the road with a nice refreshing glass, cup, or mug of Friday Fortitude, as we see what else in (and will be) going on...
*** First out of the rain barrel is a look at what takes place in the month of June:
African-American Music Appreciation Month
(when there used to be GOOD music from such folks. Scott Joplin, anyone?)
Aquarium Month
Fight the Filthy Fly Month
LGBTQIA Pride Month
(and I should care...WHY?)
Rose Month
Turkey Lovers Month
National Accordion Awareness Month
National Adopt a Cat Month
![]() |
Is Gallifrey the "spokescat"? |
National Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month
National Candy Month
National Camping Month
National Country Cooking Month
National Dairy Month
National Great Outdoors Month
National Iced Tea Month
National Papaya Month
National Soul Food Month
====================
*** Next up, time for our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:JUNE 1 -
---It's National Doughnut Day
(line 'em up and keep 'em coming)
---It's National Go Barefoot Day
(not in OUR neighborhood...you might step on a spent shell casing)
---It's National Hazelnut Cake Day
(did someone say "cake"?)
---It's National Heimlich Maneuver Day
(just take your time eating!)
---It's National Leave the Office Early Day
(don't get caught)
---It's National Nail Polish Day
(got nothing to do with carpenters in Warsaw)
---It's National Olive Day
(make mine the green ones)
---It's National Pen Pal Day
(they still HAVE those?)
---It's National Say Something Nice Day
(and if not...say nothing, right?)
*** Next, and since it is another weekend, let's look at what we can observe over the following 48 hours:
June 2 -
---Saturday is National Black Bear Day
(don't think laser pointers work on them)
---It's National Bubba Day
(don't know...don't care)
---It's National Bubbly Day
(okay, now THIS I care about)
---It's National Prairie Day
(love those wide OPEN spaces)
---It's National Rocky Road Day
(not a favorite, but it IS ice cream)
---It's National Rotisserie Chicken Day
(looks good, tastes good...is good for you)
June 3 -
---Sunday is National Cancer Survivors Day
(I'd love to see a lot more of them)
---It's National Chocolate Macaroon Day
(they had me at "chocolate")
---It's National Egg Day
(that can be every day for me)
---It's National Repeat Day
(gotta have that repetition)
*** Next up, Bill O'Reilly weighs in on the whole "Roseanne" deal:
https://www.billoreilly.com/b/The-Roseanne-Dilemma/-807301401755771736.html?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=staff_column
I just love the double-standard played out here...the whole Samantha B. thing just nets and apology...all is forgiven and HER show stays on the air.
When did Disney suddenly reclaim this "holier than thou" bug up it's ass. An apology by Roseanne should have sufficed and all the people connected with her show would have been allowed to remain EMPLOYED...whatta dick move.
*** Next, Bob Rinearson talks about school security:
http://www.news-sentinel.com/opinion/commentary/2018/05/30/bob-rinearson-school-security-is-challenging-no-matter-the-precautions/

Every school has it's own unique issues with entry points and such.
Metal detectors, ballistic glass, and officers at those schools is a good start. But there (apparently) needs to be even more.
Did anyone mention that the school resource officers were yanked from the FWCS high schools to (instead) be placed at middle schools?
Do they know something we don't?
I'd say keep the officers at the H/S level.
And above all, be vigilant.
*** Next up, another SE side shooting this morning starts our weekend off with (what else?)...a BANG (and then some).
Here's what's known so far:
http://www.wane.com/top-stories/fwpd-woman-found-shot-stabbed-inside-oliver-street-home/1212257466
This took place at 4821 Oliver St around 0300 hrs.
A woman was found shot and stabbed in side home. She was downgraded from serious to critical condition. An infant was taken to relatives.
Shell casings were found inside the house. No suspects or motive.
*** Next, an update to the latest homicide (#19):
http://www.wpta21.com/story/38319808/court-docs-man-stabbed-wife-in-neck-with-machete
A machete...the Latino weapon of choice in the "barrio"? Burmese like them as well.
Maybe we need some sort of "ban" on THOSE?
Or at least RESTRICT them to less than 6 inches long (he said sarcastically).
You can plainly see that it's STILL NOT about the device used, but the mental state of the INDIVIDUAL that really matters.
*** Next up, about this Indiana and Michigan Power rate increase, comes this:
http://www.wpta21.com/story/38317365/regulators-approve-smaller-im-rate-hike-than-utility-sought
So I&M gives us a 7.3% increase instead of 19.7%...
Am I supposed to kneel down, kiss their ring, and thank these people for their lack of vision?
Well, it "only" comes to about $9.41, or less than 32 cents per day.
Oh, okay then...I'll just pluck a few Hamiltons off of the tree I have growing near the patio...
As I'm sure everyone else who has to pay up on this "bargain" will do...yeah, right.
*** Next up, time to stop by our "Kitten Corner"...
![]() |
A rarity - the elusive TWO-FER picture. |
In fact, they have come to take things easy...as cats often do.
And where they go, I am not far behind. So we ALL take it a bit easy...lol.
*** Next, let's check back in with "Midnight and Company"...
![]() |
He's asleep again? |
![]() |
Yes, I am. And your point is? |
In fact, early on, we "all" got to planting some of the plants Wifey got last week.
![]() |
These pads are easy on MY knees, too. |
![]() |
Everything looks good from here, guys. |
*** Last back to the family room...today's world reminds me a lot of elementary school.
Back then, you had these "tattle-tales" who would, at the least provocation would spout out "so and so did this...or said that".
Society is emulating the same behavior when it comes to picking every damn nit that comes along...and to what end?
I always believed that people do that to make THEMSELVES look good.
And guess what? People will judge you by (among other things) YOUR ACTIONS!
Sure, words also play an important part of this, also.
And then we begin "the great apology movement". Everyone is forced to apologize for anything and everything, and I'm getting damn sick and tired of it all.
It comes down to this:
"I can always control what I say and do...but I can never control what YOU hear and feel"
To me, that says it all, and others would be wise to think likewise.
Sounds like a plan for a better morality, right?
Do have yourselves a good weekend.
Be well, make a difference to someone today, and as always...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

I appreciate George Clinton... Lou Rawls... Satchmo...
I am celebrating National Ignore all LGBT observances Month.
Good spokescat! Scrappy says no.
Great outdoors- works for me!
Iced tea- does NOT.
Crap, forgot it was donut day!!!!
Barefoot? Covered...
I think blogging is the new "pen pal". A blog friend once organized a deal where every month we had one member send postcards from our town to everyone else on the list. Fun while it lasted...
Bill O'Reilly: Spot on. 'Nuff said.
They should call machete murders "British style..."
I& M asked for more, got what they really wanted. What a joke that people are stupid enough to fall for that- or the companies think they are...
Loved the "pad pics" on FB...
Elementary school- maybe, in a BAAD classroom...
Chris:
---Amen to those greats.
And let's not forget the lovely LADIES of color who really knew how to carry a tune from times past.
---I do believe I will ALSO celebrate THAT one! (saw they ADDED several MORE letters)
---I thought Scrappy felt different. My mistake...heh.
---If the libtards get THEIR way, those outdoors might not be AS great (gotta have gov't housing).
---I figured you an ICED TEA kinda guy….again, my mistake...unless you're talking about that OTHER type of "iced tea" from Long Island).
---You FORGOT??? Shame on thee!
(go take another lap...lol)
---barefoot...around the house, maybe.
---I was kinda leaning that way when I saw that...digitally-speaking.
It has many advantages over the "old school" method, that's for sure.
---Agreed.
---There is an OLD Persian proverb that goes: "A thousand throats may be cut in a single night by a running man."
(seems some in Ft. Wayne have that covered.)
---I know...they OVER-ASKED, knowing the state utility commish would lower their expectations to what I&M was REALLY begging for. You nailed it, buster!
---I told "D" to get her phone for the pic...and Midnight was obliging enough (read comfy) to not move. Turned out well.
---I think our society has "graduated" TO one of those BAD classrooms...and wants to only get worse (in many ways).
Hey, thanks for stopping over to comment.
Have yourselves a very good weekend.
Stay safe (dry and cool) up there, brother.
