Friday Follies...
And the end of the week is finally here. Looks to be a rather WARM start to it, as well.
It wouldn't have been that bad yesterday, had we some sort of breeze coming through...but it was not to be.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us partly cloudy skies, temps climbing to 86 degrees, and more of the warm, the muggy,,and a good chance of some showers in the afternoon, which will no doubt add to the mosquitoes and humidity, but do little to nothing to cool things down...and that's being optimistic.
Okay...a can will work, too.
Speaking of optimism, let's get a cup, glass, or mug of Friday Fortitude poured and parked close by, as we see what else has been happening...
*** First out of the social maelstrom is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
June 8 -
---It's National Best Friends Day
(those are getting in short supply at my age)
---It's National Name Your Poison Day
(um...the southeast side of Ft. Wayne? That's a good name)
---It's National Upsy-Daisy Day
(not even gonna mess with that one)
*** Next, and since we are once again at week's end, let's see what we can observe over the following 48 hours...
JUNE 9 -
---Saturday is National Donald Duck Day
(still looks damn good for his age)
---It's National Earl Day
(I'm holding out for national BOB day, thank you)
---It's National Rose` Day
(Momma Fargo, take note)
---It's National Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Day
(keep the strawberries, lose the rhubarb)
JUNE 10 -
---Sunday is National Ballpoint Pen Day
(and the BIC company never looked back)
---It's National Black Cow Day
(otherwise known as a ROOT BEER FLOAT)
---It's National Children s Day
(great, now let's all let them BE children for a damn change)
---It's National Herbs and Spices Day
(making foods taste better for a very long time)
---It's National Iced Tea Day
(I'm all over this like white on rice!)
And there we go then...just remember to observe responsibly.
*** Next up, the city of Fort Wayne never ceases to provide me with the type of "blog-fodder" you've all come to know and love. Here's another wonderful example:
http://www.news-sentinel.com/news/local-news/2018/06/07/fort-wayne-could-seek-increase-in-water-rates-to-upgrade-pipes-and-prevent-breaks/
So, with all the water main breaks going on (for years, in fact), he city "feels" it's time for a WATER RATE HIKE...
(pause for effect)  AHEM...
How many ways is this inherently WRONG?
Maybe if the city wasn't busy securing our "king's" legacy with all the stupid ass PROJECTS in and around the damn downtown area (about nineteen at last count), then MAYBE the funds would already be there to MAINTAIN the frigging INFRASTRUCTURE...YA THINK???
God, this pisses me off royally.
This city is starting to do what every other major city does:
DIME THE DAMN PEOPLE TO DEATH.
A utility increase here, a gas tax hike there...it ALL..ADDS...UP, you morons!!!
In the meantime, where do all the folks on fixed incomes and non-infinite monetary resources figure into all this?
The city's been too bust trying to win that "best tasting water" award, so we can get people to move here, that they forgot to FIX stuff that needs fixing.
It's GOOD to be king.
Henry and Kumar (not a sequel, BTW) are not going to White Castle...they're going INTO YOUR BACK POCKET for funds they SHOULD have had all along, IF they didn't spend this city into some sort of perverse prosperity, to which nothing at all has come to the SE side (for decades, in fact).
I'm sorry, but even I have a limit on HOW MUCH STUPIDITY I can take in any one day...
*** Next, and to ad insult to injury, we have this:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20180607/WEB/180609909
Our king was busy lifting another shovel of dirt for a new DOWNTOWN hotel (while Rome burns...I mean while water mains break).
This is exactly the sort of thing that gets in my craw, Sure, we might "need" another hotel, but why hasn't our failing water system been addressed YEARS ago...why wait until NOW to "hurry up and get stuff done yesterday"?
I think there was more BULLSHIT in the shovel than dirt, your highness.
*** Next up, looks like our technology has managed to screw us again. Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20180607/WEB/180609906
Okay, so GE can't even make LED T8/T12 bulbs? Those are the new replacements for the fluorescent fixtures.
"...ouch!..."
((These units are most often used in garages, basements, workshops and utility rooms. The pins on one end of the lamp can be energized during installation/removal, posing electric shock and electrocution hazards.))
You might get electrocuted?...Okay, that would ruin anyone's weekend real fast.
Luckily they were only sold at Lowes, and you can get a gift card after contacting GE (not the first time they screwed up either, but that's another post for another day).
*** Next up, and now we get to the center of today's shrubbery maze with the following stories:
---A car crash in the Oakdale neighborhood (SW):
http://www.wpta21.com/story/38372558/car-crashes-in-oakdale-neighborhood-after-police-chase
"Oops".
Crashed into a concrete pillar...yep, that'll cause your vehicle to need some MAJOR "detailing"...(asshole).
---An update to the latest stabbing event by the local "girlrillaz":(SE side stabbing update)
http://www.news-sentinel.com/news/local-news/2018/06/07/fort-wayne-woman-arrested-in-stabbing-victim-identified/
((Dominica S. Rogers, 38, has been updated from critical condition to serious. Fort Wayne Police say Jevonda Nicole White, 31, is charged with aggravated battery, invasion of privacy and assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the case.))
I called the ethnicity spot on when I told Wifey about who did this. And those slashed tires? Most likely gotta do with "man-child" problems in "da hood". More of the typical behavior we've come to love down here in the crotch of Ft. Wayne.
---Yes, folks...ANOTHER shooting on the SOUTH side (where else does this happen with such regularity, hmm?)
http://www.wane.com/news/local-news/harrison-street-shooting-victim-in-good-condition-/1225918325
This took place around 2330 hrs last night in the 5300 block of Webster or Harrison (take your pick). A male was taken to hospital on good condition with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
Police believe it could have been a drive-by shooting.
As usual, no suspects or shooter information.
In other words, LOCK YOURSELF INSIDE WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN...or risk getting shot for no reason. It's like fending off the living dead.
*** Next, Leo Morris has a pretty good column.
Here's the link:
http://www.news-sentinel.com/opinion/commentary/2018/06/07/leo-morris-is-there-gastronomic-egalitarianism-with-school-lunches/
Leo is right...FREE isn't always that, is it. Someone has to foot the bill, and guess who that winds up being?
(got a mirror handy?)
*** Next up, Bill, O'Reilly has a column that mirrors my sentiments (wow).
Here's the link:
https://www.billoreilly.com/b/The-News-Snooze/707948626266916084.html?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=staff_column
News- fatigue...I simply love the manner in which he espressos the angst we ALL have felt with this crap.
I just like a lot of his words BETTER...lol.
*** Next, time to visit "Kitten Corner"...
"Huzzah...daddy is happy, too!"
The "children" were very well-behaved yesterday...spent a lot of the day just napping (which means they get busy when YOU'RE asleep...lol). Wasn't bad, though.
They will get into some things, but it's mostly THEIR stuff, like the old grocery bag, or that "spinning jingle ball" toy. And yes, they still love chasing one another for no reason.
"This is MY bag...my bag."
Hey, as long as they're not after my food, or trying to cut in front of me to trip me...we're good to go anywhere.
*** Next up, let's check in with "Midnight and Company"...
That's NOT where you're supposed to be.
Our furry twosome spent the day finding other places to nap (and who doesn't when it gets hots out, and you're lugging around a full body fur coat?).
That's MUCH better...
Neither of them missed a meal, and we even had our "supervisory staff" when Wifey and I were out front trimming some branches and other foliage.
Happiness is a comfy piece of concrete.
Always good to know our work is appreciated and held to the type of standard that makes for a better neighborhood (for the cats, obviously)...lol..
*** Last back to the politically-incorrect realm...so many times I ask myself why this city does what it does, and why it ignores that which need attention.
One office in City Hall proves it.
Many times, that ignorance extends to the point where we have a major failure, and things can no longer be ignored.
I can't blame a city for wanting to be better, but you always have to weigh the COST of that "want", don;t you?
If it doesn't cost you NOW, it will cost you LATER...trust me. I've lived in Philly. I've seen it there (first).
Again, we find that the debate over NEEDS versus WANTS becomes a moot point, for the WANTS are what takes center stage, and the city only takes care of it's needs when there is no other recourse.
But, you have to expect such things when you have leftist management.
(or should I say MISMANAGEMENT?)
My part of this city has been ignored since the Win Moses days, and it's surely SHOWS. The city has allowed an entire quarter of the city to devolve and the leaders think that by making downtown SO much better, the SE side can be overlooked.
Well, there are those who choose to live in Fantasyland, right?
What's RIGHT, not what's "popular".
Reality may suck at times, and be unfair, unjust, and unavoidable, but we still have to spend most of our lives there. We should make it the best we can , and taking care of the NEEDS first will ensure that we can achieve that "better" the city WANTS.
Do have yourselves a good weekend.
Be well, make a difference to someone today, and as always...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Name yer poison: Seems a bit bleak (by the picture) for celebrating...

On the city: You know I agree, Had the funds been put into the infrastructure in the first place, the growth for all involved would have been organic and natural. But politics is the applying of makeup to the pig, rather than making sausages.

Hm, bet Lowes is rethinking that exclusive arrangement.

"Oops" lol!

I don't think it's as much fatigue from news, as it is what PASSES as news. Give the people true, real, non-agenda news- oh, but that would restrict journalistic freedom of speech...

Last night, KC and I went to Pierres to watch some alt bands from back in the day. Good security, good show, everyone behaved, and I really need to start going to these things in a wheelchair, as 6 hours of standing and pseudo-dancing are bad on the back!

Chris:
---And that's we AVOID poison...unless it moves in all around us.
---I had a feeling you'd feel likewise. It should be easy enough for damn near EVERYONE in this city (sadly, it isn't, and that's where we are today).
---I never really thought of the possibility that ELECTROCUTION had ANY form of "exclusivity".
Underwriter's Labs mist be LOVING this one!
---I would view what you mention as having a more than normal level of TEDIUM, and I suppose THAT is what tires people out (from a mental viewpoint).
--- Standing for that long... gives you a bad back. Welcome to Aging 101, my friend.
(no degree given...just years of the SAME stuff and in different places)
But, at least you weren't shot or stabbed in the parking lot.
That's ALWAYS a PLUS!

Hey, thank you for taking time to stop over and comment.

Have yourselves a good weekend and do stay safe (and dry) up there, brother.
