So we begin this Halloween with a marvelously DAMP countenance, but I heard it's supposed to abate by the time the kids roam the streets (oh, joy).
Sorry, was never a huge fan of this "tradition", and yes, I refuse to call this any sort of "holiday".
It's just an excuse to become a pagan for the evening, and beg candy from others.
I will say that the best part of this, aside from it's ending early, is watching Garfield's Halloween Adventuire (on DVD) ...it's become a staple in our household and a much looked forward to event. Get out the popcorn.
Not ONE single channel (here) airs this, and Jim Davis LIVES in INDIANA!
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us rain early on, with clearing skies by afternoon with temps reaching to around 54 degrees (but dropping as the day progresses).
Now, how about we get a comforting cup of coffee, tea., or cocoa, as we take a look at what else has been going on...
*** First out of the graveyard is our "WHO SAID THAT?" quote for the week:
"If human beings had genuine courage, they'd wear their costumes every day of the year, not just on Halloween."
Personally, I'd find this slightly amusing, because we might wind up with more insight as to the mindsets of others by the costumes they choose.
You have to admit, it would be a psychologist's dream...or would that be a nightmare (on Elm Street)?
So, WHO said that?
The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design...
*** Next, it's our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
OCTOBER 31 -
---It's Girl Scout Founder's Day
(on Halloween of all days?)
---It's Halloween
(big...fat...hairy...deal...lol)
---It's National Caramel Apple Day
(not a fan of the apple part, but I'll take the caramel)
---It's National Doorbell Day
(big surprise there, huh?)
---It's National Knock Knock Joke Day
(kinda goes with the doorbell thing, I guess)
---It's National Magic Day
(okay, make today vanish...heh)
*** Next up, typically (back on the east coast) LAST night would be something to keep an eye out for, because it was the juvenile version of "the purge"...of sorts...
It was referred to by a couple names, such as Mischief Night, Hell Night and Devil's Night.
Here's the WIKI on Mischief Night
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mischief_Night
And, here's the lowdown on Devil's Night
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil%27s_Night
(this dealt specifically with DETROIT.)
Hell Night used to pertain to Camden, NJ...also had it's share of fires breaking out.
Why, I have NO idea whatsoever. Just a bunch of assholes out there.
*** Next up, if you're a longtime reader of my blog (and who isn't...yeah, right - LMAO), then you know about my 8 Simple Rules of Halloween.
If you need or require a refresher on this, check out my archive posts from 31 OCTOBER 2013 or 31 OCTOBER 2011
There's more references farther back, but these are fine. Just scroll down to the exact day. Use the "what you missed" widget in the right-hand column
*** Next, time to stop on by our "Kitten Corner"...
Our kids did well and managed to stay out from under-foot.
Sometimes, they creep up alongside you, and you damn near trip over them to keep from stepping ON them.
I try to convince them that killing daddy isn't the best way to endear themselves around here...heh.
They'll catch on...they always do, sooner or later.
*** Next up, let's do our check-in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
The furry twosome pulled another change=up yesterday...they were both AWOL for lunch. Luckily, they both came back before dinner, so that worked out.
They get wet food THREE times this week (thanks to the cat observances), so I'm sure they enjoyed that.
We do it again today (Wet Food Wednesday), but with the rain, ANY food can get wet easily enough.
The challenge is to make sure they both get fed (under the patio table) and find a dry spot to hunker down and stay out of traffic (and trouble).
*** Last back to the witch's cauldron...yes, I have become less of a fan of Halloween as I've gotten older.

That's not to say I didn't partake in the festivities at all. As a youth, I often caught a cold by Halloween, and didn't go out. Mom often went instead and made out pretty well.
I really got "into" Halloween after I left high school. I went to a couple parties, and it wasn't a traumatizing experience, but doing the costume thing wasn't bad. Meeting other people who often drank too much was a turn-off.
I found out it was much better to just stay home and not be out driving among those who had partied and over-imbibed.
Later on, it became a famous song title (for me) - The Thrill Is Gone...lol.
Still, seeing kids dress up in PROPER costumes that show creativity is fun to watch.
My favorite part of Halloween today (aside from it's ending) is the HALF PRICE candy the day AFTERWARDS...!
And naturally, the advent of the upcoming CHRISTMAS holiday has already begun (in earnest).
All the ads, all the television time, the Hallmark Channel movies (that have been going on for the past month)...we're in it now.
Seems we go from holiday to holiday...yet, something seems to be missing.
Must be the "magic" we enjoyed in our youth. Yeah, that's gotta be it.
Be well, make a difference to someone today, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.
(and be sure to check your children's treats)
See 'ya next month.

My, practicing your scrooge early, eh? IDK one way or the other, but it is nice to give the kids a chance to look forward to something as kids, and like Paul said, whether you celebrate a day or not do it "to the Lord."
Why am I here early? The cutter took a crap on my partner last night and I was given a choice.
Quote: NO, a thousand times no! Then you have to think on what you're wearing everyday, and I'm more concerned about making sure I'm wearing ANYthing!
Knock knock day: Yeah, try go knock at the Addams mansion...
Magic day: Your comment, all over.
Now, Devil's Night is more like what you described at the top. THAT can just.go. away.
Bob's rules: No twerking? There goes my act, lol...
Chris:
---Scrooge? Nah, not w/ Halloween...that's NOT a holiday after all...lol. Doesn't count.
---Those cutters don't appear to be worth the space they take up (I'm talking MACHINE here).
---I tossed that quote out for the fun I found in it. That's not to say we SHOULD ALL WEAR costumes...just those who make the choice to do so.
(but you WOULD make a good Hawkeye...just sayin').
Yes, be sure you wear SOMETHING...I agree with that (and try to do so myself)
---LOL...I miss the original show. That was a hoot.
---Caught a neighbor kid soaping my car windows in Philly one year. Guess what? He learned how to CLEAN those windows immediately afterward.
Lesson learned.
---C'mon now...please don't tell me YOU twerk? That's something my mind's eye just saw and now can't UNSEE...ROFL!
Hey, thanks for stopping by (early) to comment.
Much appreciated.
Stay safe (and pumpkin-free) up there, brother.
