Friday Follies...
And we start our end of the week with NO rain...(finally).
Man, it seemed more like April than November, didn't it?
I, for one am glad. Now, if we can dry OUT a bit, I might be able to get some leaves blown off of everything and moved to the curbsides around the "Fortress".
In the meantime, our Hoosierland weather for today brings us cloudy skies, temps rising to around 48 degrees (and did I mention NO rain?) with a slight breeze.
Okay, let's all get that cup,  glass or mug of Friday Fortitude poured as we see what else has been going on...
*** First off of the leaf-covered lawn is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
NOVEMBER 2 -
---It's National Broadcast Traffic Professional's Day
(a rather lengthy title, isn't it?)
---It's National Deviled Egg Day
(no one could make these like Mom could)
---It's National Jersey Friday
(Why wear something that belongs to someone else? They never wear OUR clothes.)
---It's National Ohio Day
(I'm sure this means something to those living there)
*** Next, and since the end of the week has arrived, let's see what we can observe over the following 48 hours...
NOVEMBER 3 -
---Saturday is National Bison Day
(is this the same as national BUFFALO day? Just asking.)
---It's National Housewives Day
(oh, God...not another program idea for the Bravo channel)
---It's National Sandwich Day
(and that can be any day around our home)
NOVEMBER 4 -
---Daylight Saving Time Ends
(more on that in my close)
---It's National Candy Day
(took this long to eat the Halloween goodies?)
---It's National Chicken Lady Day
(just Google it)
And there you go then...enough things which should keep any sane person out of jail and off the streets.
Just remember to always observe responsibly.
*** Next up, here's a veteran's story for all the right reasons:
https://wpta21.com/news/featured/21country/2018/10/30/le-heros/
Legion of Honor Medal
An excellent video. I've been in such bombers and I can't imagine what it was like to sit or stand there with a sheet of aluminum between you and the sky, in combat conditions being shot at and trying to take down another aircraft buzzing you at over 350 MPH.. These young men weren't anything special, but what they DID certainly was.
*** Next, it's our Friday Kevin Leininger column.
Here's the link:
http://www.news-sentinel.com/news/local-news/2018/11/01/kevin-leininger-selective-outrage-only-makes-american-unity-more-elusive-even-in-opposition-to-hate/
Have to say that Kevin REALLY nailed this one down tight..
*** Next up, we couldn't forget our Bill O'Reilly column, could we?
Here's the link:
https://www.billoreilly.com/b/Our-Country/-903918301886558877.html?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=staff_column
Yes, Bill...we certainly could USE someone like Paul Revere about now, couldn't we?
*** Next, time to drop by our "Kitten Corner"...
The kids seem to be getting bored with the rain...I can understand.
Well, I DID want to get a photo of your FACES.
But that means the birds take time to stop by the feeder, so there is a bit of diversion for both of them.
Other than that, there were naps to be had, meals to be eaten, and a daddy to follow around.
Not a bad for any of us.
*** Next up, our check-in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
Please make all this rain stop...
Our furry twosome DEFINITELY have had enough of the rain...you can tell when they come by to eat...both very vocal (it's like quick, feed us, so we can run back to where it's dry).
Whiskers stays in the one shelter, while Midnight wanders off probably under something away from the safety of our place.
Don't look at me...I'm with HIM.
There IS another shelter, and he CAN avail himself of it.
I know...just because you make a shelter, it doesn't mean the cats will automatically take to it.
*** Last back to the tool shed...yes, this weekend, we once again annoy the hell out of ourselves by turning our clocks BACK one hour.
And how (exactly) has this been helping us...really?
Sure, the sun comes up "earlier", but it "sets" sooner...helluva trade-off, isn't it?
So we either get up while it's dark, or have dinner while it's dark...take your pick.
Naturally, after a few months of this crap, we get to turn our clocks ahead (again)...and won't that be just as fun...
Not really. Digital clocks (and watches) take a few minutes longer.
Coming from Philly, we ALWAYS had to do the "time-shift" thing, and when I first moved to Indiana, you didn't HAVE any of that...which was kinda cool, really.
Then, the Indiana state government chose (badly) to change that to follow everyone else (except Hawaii and Arizona).
We were told that this would save so much money for businesses...((...ahem...))
Sorry, not seeing evidence of that (and don't expect to).
Plus, it confuses the hell out of our cats when it comes to feeding times...not cool.
Let's face it, whatever we do to TRY and change any aspect of time...it doesn't change a single thing.
Time STILL moves in it's own inexorable momentum...THAT we can never change. Our Earth does it's own thing (and in it's OWN time), and we're still "along for the ride", and maybe some day, these "sciencey"people will figure that one out.
Oh yes, time is still the most precious commodity we have available to us.
So, don't waste it, and remember that when you lose it, you can't get it back.
Therein lies the lesson for the week.
Do have yourselves a good weekend.
Be well, make a difference to someone today, and as always...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

WTH is a broadcast traffic professional? Sounds like a fancy name for a dispatcher...

I don't have a jersey since my Joey Votto one wore out...

Bison Day: Yes, without confusing Upstate NY...

I know I got bored with the rain last night. Scrappy's water fixation made him want to go out and lick the porch every 15 minues...

Time change: The reason I still have a cartoon of me kicking Mitch Daniels in the ass in my head twice a year...

THERE! I made it on chronal Friday!

---LOL...I have NO bloody idea.
Maybe they stand in the intersections watching the program lineups? They make this crap up.
---I got ONE jersey - Bill Flett, Philadelphia Flyers #21 - passed away back in 1999 (Google him up).
---Upstate NY Day...I'd pay to see that one.
---Good Lord, don't let him lick the porch!
(leave a dish out...he can drink from that.)
---That's one cartoon that would worth publishing.
---Chronal Friday (HA!)...you didn't lose that "How to be a time Lord" book, didja?
(That would explain away ANY and ALL tardiness).

Thanks for stopping by today (Friday) and commenting.

Have a good weekend and stay dry up there, brother.

NOVEMBER 4 -
---Daylight Saving Time Ends

And lest we forget:
NOVEMBER 5 -
---New Garbage Pick-up Day Begins:

So if you think that your troubles with Red River will end because your pick-up day changes - think again. This past week, pick-up day was Wednesday and I dutifully put out the garbage can on Tuesday night. It is now Sunday and my can and the trash in all my neighbors cans remains curbside awaiting pickup.

I even went online and I left a message for the city to get a truck into the neighborhood but my missive was ignored. Two things are now assured: (1) The garbage will now be picked up at the earliest on my new pick-up day - tomorrow and (2) the city will not grant me a credit on my monthly garbage fee.

Actually, we're keeping the SAME pickup day (Thursday).
As to whether I think the problems will go away?
I'm certainly NOT making "book" on that one. I only bet on sure things...lol.
---Initially, they were as good as the previous collectors (Republic and Serv-All), but in the last four to five months, Red River hasn't just dropped the ball...they've begun playing for the opposition!
---Good luck w/ getting any credit. I haven't for all the weeks we have been missed since mid-year.
---Early on, RR had good workers on the trucks, but lately, whoever they (now) have are dubious at best (reminds me of our neighbors...heh).
---I usually contact Matt Gratz (solid waste) directly, and keep him apprised of our situation. And I also call into *311* (which tends to light a smaller fire under people).
Matt has been good about it, and can usually get things back on track for us by the next day...can't say the same about 311.
(two days at best)
---I think Red River might be going bye unless they shape up...and FAST.
---Maybe a lot of people down where we live can't (read don't) give a rat's ass about trash because they dump it all over the place anyway, but folks like you and I DO care, and for all the RIGHT reasons.
This week will tell, will it not?

Thanks for taking time to stop by and comment.
Much appreciated.

Stay safe out there.

Does not lok good, does it?
Seems the more the city tries to improve things, the worse they get!
