Wednesday already...yes, we have arrived at the midweek point.
And whatever clearing we were supposed to have yesterday didn't take place. I thought the sun was TRYING to make it's debut this year, but no...we're going to have to wait a spell for that.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us more cloudy skies, temps reaching into only the mid-30s and maybe some off and on drizzle. At this pint, I'm bored with the rain and would actually enjoy a bit of snow
In any case, let's get ourselves a nice comforting drink, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First out of the fireplace is our WHO SAID THAT? quote of the week:
"And now we welcome the new year. Full of things that have never been."
Short and to the point...I like that.
This is our first quote of the new year and yes, another "newbie" added to our growing list of people who speak really great words.
So, who said that? The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back in Bohemia...
*** Next up, time for the "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
JANUARY 2 -
---It's National Buffet Day
(just keep Elvis away from that)
---It's National Cream Puff Day
(oh, to find some of THOSE in Fort Wayne)
---It's National Personal Trainer Day
(sorry, not intersted in that one bit)
---It's National Science Fiction Day
(now THERE is something worth getting up for)
*** Next, we had ourselves a decent New Year's day at the "Fortress".
I made the Missus "egg in a basket" for breakfast (look it up or watch V For Vendetta to see what that's all about), while I had bacon and eggs w/ toast.
We then went to our respective televisions where Wifey watched the SYFY Channel's The Twilight Zone episodes all day.

This would make a good episode. |
We had that corned beef brisket for dinner and the last of the chocolate cake for desert
All in all, wonderfully uneventful, and that means relatively no annoying asshats, except for the usual loudasses driving by, booming what they believe to be "music".
And we did get our first lawn trash of the year - a plastic drink cup from some fast food joint...TNB there.
Yes, there's always something down here that comes along to damage your calm.
*** Next up, let's see what's happening at our "Kitten Corner"
The kids had a very nice day, taking turns spending time with Wifey and myself (they just wanted to be scratched, but that's fine).

"Daddy warmed it up for me." |
![]() |
"Look, a commercial with CATS in it." |
Both very smart cats.
*** Next, let's check back in with "Midnight and Whiskers"
![]() |
"I can haz a REFILL?" |
![]() |
"These people take real good care of us." |
I know neither will want to miss today (Wet Food Wednesday).
*** Last back to the patio table...Wifey and I were wondering how log it will be before we have our first homicide of the year.
We're not being macabre...just practical. We've come to know HOW these people operate over the years.
Usually, it doesn't take that long for some idiot to shoot, stab, or otherwise maim another into taking the big dirt nap.
We're thinking within a week. , and we'd be surprised it it took longer.
Actually, I'd be happy if people would just start obeying the laws around here for a change
And, we'd be ecstatic if we had some honest-to-God CIVIL people living around us like we USED to have.
We're not asking for the moon here, but we are asking for a neighborhood that would be a damn sight better than what we've seen occur over time.
We don't want a perfect world...that would bore the hell outta me. We just want a place where we can feel safe, where people know what REAL respect is (and practice giving it as well as getting it), and a neighborhood that has what we used to recall as being filled with REAL neighbors who also gave a damn about hos things were, rather than the human refuse that have no reason living in a single family house that's government-sponsored.

No more broken windows. |
We just need a world where we can get along...and a lot better than we currently are, but it take some hard work, and a level of persistence.
And, it takes time.
People have to be willing to invest in all three.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Nice quote. I'm not comforted by it, mind you, but nice quote.
Buffet: Sounded good, until you brought up Mr Balogna Casserole...
DW: Just a flesh out of the e-mail- I did notice all of your points, but a lot of them (all but the one about the armor) I thought well, you can give them some line on that one. But here's what irked me. We finally, FINALLY look like we are going to have her MOMENT that I've been waiting on... the "Oncoming Storm" moment... and then she turns to the others and asks if she gave the Dalek enough of a chance. Damn thing shoulda shot her in the back when she turned.
From there came the "a kindergartner coulda plotted this" section, complete with a "red suit" in Aaron, the stupidest way to try and peal a Dalek off one's back Chib could have possibly came up with (I was expecting them to smear it with the peanut butter, lol), that putrid "Let's all hold hands and live happily ever after" epilogue, and when the whole thing MIGHT have been saved by Aaron using the emotional energy between he and the kid to "shock" the damn thing off- no, let's just have him get pulled in and the Dalek finally slides off. REALLY?
Chibnall tries too hard to make this a feel good thing. He only writes her as a Doctor about 70% of every episode. And frankly, I thought the part with Aaron and Graham was really good- but he failed to make the whole family thing pay off. And Jodie bashing Aaron those couple of times might have looked like innocent if directed rambling from Matt Smith just made Jodie look like an ass since all he ever characterises her as is Mary Poppins with a Tardis.
Ahem.
Anyway, have a nice evening!
Chris:
---I just found the quote a good way to begin a NEW year.
(hopefully all the "never been" things will be GOOD ones)
---LOL...knew you'd get that one!
---Agreed...that Dalek showed MUCH more of the insane hateful creatures we've come to know (and despise). All emotion bred out of them (Thanks, Davros).
The Eccleston ep: "Dalek" sets the tone for the creatures (new series) inside the travel pods. We learn they can FLY now, too.
---Yeah, that "Kumbaya" moment wasn't the best way to end things (imho).
Seems others didn't find this "special" THAT special:
https://theboar.org/2019/01/doctor-who-resolution/
---Personally, I like the way Russ Davies and Steve Moffet handled the Daleks - "Inside the Dalek" was pretty good, in fact.
"Journey's End" and "The Magician's Apprentice /The Witch's Familiar" were all excellent!) Adding MERCY to the mix (for Davros) should have netted something we've yet to see.
Chibnall also tries too hard to inject "digs" at socio=-political circumstances (Trump, Brexit, etc) and that takes away from good story writing.
Hey, but what do I know as a fan of the Doctor from the MID-70s, eh???
(short answer: a LOT...lol).
Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Stay safe (with "sonic" in hand) up there, brother
