Tuesday Tidbits...
How about a half pound of JULY?
Hopefully, you are dealing with this dangerous COLD weather as well as possible.
We're not out of the woods yet, however. We've a couple MORE days of even colder conditions coming  through the Midwest.
And, from what I've heard, we've not had such arctic cold since 1994..Gonna break some records this week, for sure.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us...(you guessed it)...COLD, as in freeze your nether-regions off in no time kinda cold.
Skies will be partly cloudy (little to no reflective melting from the sun) and temps today will only reach 13 degrees (which is what it is outside NOW (0600 hrs), so from here on out, it only gets worse.
Take every precaution to ensure your safety, the safety of your pets, and the safety of loved ones.
Sorry, guys...I'm staying INSIDE.
Remember, we're not part of the Shackleton or Amundsen expeditions, although it might well feel like it when you venture out.
"I find the lack of alcohol...disturbing,"
Now, let's get our insides warmed with a nice big cup of coffee, tea, or cocoa, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First off of the glacial plain is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
JANUARY 29 -
---It's National Corn Chip Day
(not a big fan and they won't keep me warm)
---It's National Plan Your Vacation Day
(what the hell is a "vacation"?)
---It's National Puzzle Day
(this weather sure IS puzzling)
*** Next up, and since it's a Tuesday, let's take a gander at all the  calls that we should have heard about, but didn't:

Cripes, ONE asshole found some.
*** Next, our local SPCA (which is a block away from our "Fortress") received some needed help from animal lovers:
https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/allen-co-spca-without-hot-water-asking-for-donations/1733065728
The water heaters chose to crap pout and in less than 3 hours, funds were raised to pay to have them fixed...PLUS some money left over to future projects.
I'd have to say that when it comes to charity work (especially on the SE side of town), the FOUR-legged among us are more appreciative and deserving than many of the 2-legged residents.
*** Next up...Global warming? Try global COOLING.
https://biblicalsignsintheheadlines.com/2018/01/19/global-warming-more-like-global-cooling-who-can-withstand-his-cold/
And to think this was written LAST January...
Coulda fooled me. I thought it was written YESTERDAY.
Don't recall seeing this next story on any of the news media sources back in November, did you?
https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/11/global_warming_snowed_under.html
And WHY did we NEVER hear about THIS other story from late last year:
https://metro.co.uk/2018/11/16/nasa-slowdown-8146529/
I dunno...NASA SCIENTIST sounds pretty damn reputable and credible to ME (more so than "Algore")...how about you?
We LIKE Fort Wayne in January!
The only wool pulled over MY eyes these days is that knit hat I wear when I go outside in below-zero conditions.
(and even that doesn't really COVER my eyes...lol)
*** Next, time to drop by our "Kitten Corner"...
We're (almost) ALWAYS well behaved.
The kids were a bit more "animated" yesterday, and by that I mean it was a day to get into stuff...like closets. Really, they're no warmer than the rest of the house, but you know how curious cats can get (I certainly do).
Fortunately, this behavior passed, and then it wa back to snoozing and eating, and then snoozing some more, with a few head and neck rubs tossed in (for THEM...not for me).
*** Next up, let's check in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
Our furry twosome did spend a large part of the day nearby the house, and that always makes me less worried about them.
Always good to have a full food bowl.
Trying to keep them fed, and having LIQUID water is job-one when it comes to these two.
Neither missed breakfast or dinner, and last night, Midnight was on the back step (which was pretty damn slippery) to get hand held treats.
It's too cold to roam around so much.
Well, we compromised. I gave both him and Whiskers a handful on the step and called it done.
The next couple days will be the REAL test...and the shelters are still there for both of them (and with more straw added).
*** Last back to the deep freeze...I can say I do not remember weather THIS cold, and I;ve been around for over 60 years.
This is downright BRUTAL, and not to be taken lightly, even if you're in good health.
I mean, when you see schools closing for DAYS, you have to conclude that this IS some serious sh,,,"stuff".
We're talking frostbit in 10 minutes...in INDIANA for God's sake. This is the type of thing you could expect in upper Michigan or Minnesota, or the rest of our northern most states.
And yes, I grow concerned about senior citizens, who can't get out in this, and rely on family and friends for their necessities.
Then, there is always the "x-factor" attached to events like this - the unexpected things no one can really plan for.
Like the water heaters dying at the local SPCA...you sure don't expect that to happen at the worst possible time, right?
Call me "Murphy".
But, as we ALL know, Murphy (and his law) makes no favorites of people, places or things.h
All any of us can do under such circumstances is to expect the worst, hope for the best, and take care of things as they arise to the best of our abilities. And, it never hurts to have a "Plan-B"  ready...just in case.
This was a city street a couple days ago.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Dealing with anything right now is questionable (stay tuned for this week's Sunday Message), but at least tomorrow the cold ain't a thing- we'll be shut down. The plant will be open Thursday, but they're respecting your decision one way or the other. We'd be closed, period, but the greedy idiots at Brunswick/Harris intend to drag their frozen employees in both days.

Frankly, I'm feeling more like Robert Falcon Scott...

Lack of alcohol- I have one GM for later tonight...

Laurie made some dip for corn chips a couple days back. Not bad.

I'm planning a vacation for Thursday... if the forecast holds.

I read about the SPCA thing- great job!

The only time I remember it this cold was the great blizzard. Our furnace took a shit and if not for the bravest Standard-Shank repairman ever, we might have froze to death. No, actually I remember the one also that hit Saturday night and left us with a Cleveland/Cincy NFL game that started at -18.

Chris:
---I hear 'ya with dealing with stuff. I try to take each day as it arrives.
---A shutdown under such adverse weather is a SMART idea.
---Good Grief...Scott didn't fair as well (as the movie Scott of the Antarctic w/ John Mills demonstrated).
---Feel the GM...embrace the GM...!
---Tortilla chips are fine for me...the Fritos are kinda boring (and very salty).
---Thursday vacation, huh? You must KNOW the right people.
---Yeah, people pulled together for the SPCA (and all the critters).
---That blizzard of '78-'79 was bad as far as plain old SNOW went...buried my Torino up to the windshield over at my girlfriend's house in "Joisey".
How conveninet...lol.
It was cold then, but not near as much WIND (this time around)...that sucks the breath outta 'ya.
---I do remember watching some Vikings games on TV back then when thy played OUTSIDE in sub-zero weather...talk about a LOT of dropped passes!

Thanks much for taking some time to comment today.

Stay safe, stay warm, and enjoy that GM up there, brother.

Our son is in Chicago and all have been advised to stay inside tomorrow. Cold + wind chill off the lake will be colder than Mt. Everest.

Love the memes. all make sense to this former Midwesterner who survived the "mini-ice age" back in late 1950s.

It's colder than most ANY other place on THIS planet.
(Mars is a bit colder, I hear...lol)
We're all but shut down in Ft. Wayne today.

Glad you enjoyed the memes.
If I didn't know better, I think we've got us a mini-mini-ice-age on our hands this week. Sure has me convinced.

Thanks for stopping by to comment.

Stay safe out there.
