It's the end of the week, and the start of a new month.
Love when that happens. But I'm still hating the cold.
But, I DON'T love when we get an additional 3-4 inches of snow on TOP of the stuff that didn't melt because we had SUB-ZERO temps over the last few days. That damages my calm.
Our Hoosierland weather for today sees another "warmup" to around 20 degrees (still NOT above freezing, but the streets should clear up well enough), partly sunny skies and an end to the snowfall. By Monday, we'll have temps into the FIFTIES...(no shit), and RAIN. Here comes some flooding, right? Seems we can't even buy a break.
In any event, and since I've already shoveled the front steps, sidewalk, back steps AND driveway, I'm ready for a nice big cup of coffee, but you might need something else, like tea or cocoa (or even some orange juice).
I think I might amend my coffee with some Friday Fortitude.
Let's all pause to do that, as we see what else has been going on.
*** First out of the snow drift is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
FEBRUARY 1 -
---It's Bubble Gum Day
(sure, why not?)
---It's National Baked Alaska Day
(how apropos)
---It's National Freedom Day
(obviously NOT freedom from cold weather or shoveling snow)
---It's National Get Up Day
(yeah, like get up and clear the snow from everything)
---It's National Serpent Day
(the devil is in the works on that)
---It's National Texas Day
(where everything except liberalism is bigger)
---It's National Wear Red Day
(I'll stick to woodland camo, thanks)
*** Next, and because it IS the weekend, let's see what we can observe over the following 48 hours...
FEBRUARY 2 -
---Saturday is National Groundhog Day
(early spring or 6 more weeks of winter?)
---It's National Heavenly hash Day
(was never a fan...sorry)
---It's National Tater Tot Day
(these aren't that bad)
FEBRUARY 3 -
---Sunday is National Carrot Cake Day
(this is really good)
---It's National Missing Person's Day
(and there's always too many of them)
---It's National The Day the Music Died
(and life changed for many of us)
---It';s National Women Physicians Day
(never had a doc THAT cute)
And there you go...plenty of things to do OTHER than watch the "Stuper Bowl".
Just remember to always observe responsibly.
*** Next, let's take a look at what the month of FEBRUARY brings us:
National Fasting February- (I'm fasting from idiots)
National Self Check Month- (yep, I'm still here)
National Enrolled Agents Month
Free and Open Source Software Month
American Heart Month (this doesn't apply to Pelosi and Schumer)
An Affair to Remember Month
Black History Month
Canned Food Month
Creative Romance Month
Great American Pies Month
National Bake for Family Fun Month - (brownies are easy)
National Bird Feeding Month (should also be cats watching feeding birds month)
National Cherry Month
National Children’s Dental Health Month
National Grapefruit Month - (shades of Jimmy Cagney)
National Hot Breakfast Month - (oatmeal and cream of wheat)
National Library Lover’s Month
National Snack Food Month
National Weddings Month (must be planning, and not the event itself)
National Embroidery Month
Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month
*** Next up...Who said that Hell froze over?
https://wpta21.com/news/top-stories/2019/01/31/when-hell-michigan-freezes-over/
Why not have all the Muslims there fix the roads...they're using them anyway, right?
(or doesn't Mohammed allow that of his followers?) There are the illegals and prisoners also...good cheap work force.
*** Next, FWCS closed again due to transportation issues:
https://wpta21.com/news/top-stories/2019/01/31/fwcs-remains-closed-friday-due-to-transportation-issues/
Someone needs to tell these folks that whenever you have DIESEL engines in ANY vehicle, they need to be garage kept, or have some sort of fuel pre-heater connected to keep the fuel from turning into jell-o.
On the up side, we ARE getting USPS delivery today (their vehicles are not diesel).
Here's a thought...maybe the school systems should think about LPG (propane) or CNG (natural gas) powered buses? Works in Missouri.
*** Next up...Global Wa...I mean The Polar Vortex...by the numbers:
https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/the-impact-of-winter-blast-by-the-numbers/1741806104
This is actually a pretty good read, and covers a lot of ground pertaining to cold weather.
*** Next, time once again to stop by "Kitten Corner"...
Dining room cuteness |
Totally tuckered out. |
Then, all is calm once again.
*** Next up, let's do out last check in of this week with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
Midnight was actually around most ALL day, and only came by late for dinner.
He takes good care of his "sister". |
Always good to see our little survivors back to get a warm hug and some warm food and water that's NOT frozen.
*** Last back to the igloo factory...here at the "Fortress", we didn't get away Scot-free with the cold.
Our upstairs powder room toilet and sink would not drain, so that tells me we have some ice clog someplace. That room is exposed on 3 sides anyway, and since it was SO damn cold, even keeping the door open didn't help. Forty below (outside) will do that.
It should clear by itself over the weekend.
I'm also waiting until we hit 40 degree weather to even try and start MY car (the Batmobile). Have to charge the battery first. Cold weather drains the hell out of them too quickly (another reason to NEVER get an ELECTRIC or HYBRID car).
Other than that, our weekend's dance card is already filled...with Sunday's PUPPY BOWL and KITTEN BOWL.
THIS has become the new tradition here, and with good reason...no one will be taking a "knee" and all the furries will be having fun.
Screw the hot wings crap, the lousy-tasting domestic beer, and whatever mook tailgate party is planned. Oh, and I can't give a rat's backside about commercials or who (or what) is performing at halftime.
(I'll bet viewership goes down anyway for the super bowl, as it has in year's past)
So, loose the kittens and the puppies...let's get ready to get cute.
If I want people playing sports, there is usually a hockey game on
Do have yourselves a good weekend.
Be well, make a difference to someone today, and as always...
Stay SAFE (and stay warm) out there, America.

Finishing a nice Paulaner double bock and listening to 1977 as we speak- I'm fortified.
Didn't miss much at work. Guy cutter from 2nd came to first "this week" to learn how to get faster from my partner. He didn't show today. She says she told him he might want to consider something "work from home". Apparently he took it to heart, lol.
Bubble gum and baked alaska- SKIP.
Get up- wish I coulda skipped that one too.
Red ain't quite my color...
Good grief, Groundhog Day? Man...
And the Day the Music died...
Missouri's warmer than us... are there any cold issues with gas?
Yeah, saw the number thing. 1 zebra, smdh...
Nice thing is, you got a big "I love that man!" from D for your cat-labors...
I hope they don't make the Puppy Bowl as dorky as the new ad for it... Motley Crue, really?
There's been a lot of talk that no ones all that excited because it's the Pats again. I'll tailgate tomorrow night at home, go to bed at halftime Sunday, unless the Rams compete...
Ha! In fact there's a game on right now! Excelsior!
Chris?:
---With a DBL-bock, I'm not surprised...lol.
---Fellow employees say the DARNEDEST things.
---You don't like RED? And you're on FB?
C'mon...you know it makes you see plenty of it.
---Dunno is MO was THAT much warmer than us last week. CNG is already COLD. I haven't come across issues like w/ diesel.
(beats electric battery power)
---She STILL loves me? After ALL these years?
Must be doing Something right, I guess...cool.
---If I come across something on the puppy or kitten bowl that tests MY level of dealing w/ dorkiness, there is ALWAYS the VOL CTL button...HA!
I just want to see the critters.
Thanks for spending some time here to comment today.
Have yourselves a good weekend.
Stay safe (and well-thawed out) up there, brother.
