Our first FULL day of Spring...and it's wet outside (again).
(well, it's not freezing, that's a blessing).
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us some light rain early on, which should go away by the afternoon. Skies will be mostly cloudy and temps will rise back into the mid to upper 40s (again).
So, let's take this time to get a comforting beverage, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First off of the soggy lawn is the answer to yesterday's WHO SAID THAT? quote:
"The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another. The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month."
This was spoken by one Henry Van Dyke Jr (November 10, 1852 – April 10, 1933) and was an American author, educator, and clergyman.
And here is his WIKI:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_van_Dyke_Jr.
Now, when we say he was born in "Germantown", PA, we REALLY mean that northwest part of Philadelphia (my father was also born there). Since then, this part of the city has fallen on rough times, and many of the once beautiful houses there have been either torn down, or have undergone a level of "Detroitification", if you get my drift.
And that's a damn shame.
It's not a long read, but it's interesting nonetheless, and has Van Dyke's list of short stories.
Van Dyke officiated at the funeral of Mark Twain, knew Helen Keller and was classmates with Woodrow Wilson (well, we won't hold that last one against him).
*** Next up, time for our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
MARCH 21 -
---It's National California Strawberry Day
(from the land of fruits and nuts, right?)
---It's National Common Courtesy Day
(today's world seems a bit void of this)
---It's National Countdown Day
(to what? The apocalypse?)
---It's National Farm Rescuer Day
(Lord knows that farmers here need all the help they can get)
---It's National fragrance Day
(make it a pleasant one, please)
---It's National French Bread Day
(one of the few good things to come from there)
---It's National Single Parent Day
(and many of them do a spectacular job)
*** Next, an update to the Hanna St. shooting:
https://wpta21.com/news/top-stories/2019/03/20/fort-wayne-man-faces-charges-after-police-say-he-shot-brother/
I did enjoy the statement made by the shooter after he was busted for capping his brother in the leg...heh.
"I shoulda shot him in the head"...you can't make this stuff up,..not down on the SOUTHEAST side of this city.
Lesson here?
Don't invite someone (even a relative) into your crib if they're not planning to leave and want to argue over a car..
More TNB in 'da hood, people.
*** Next up, looks like "Fauxcahontas" is back on her "warpath":
www.journalgazette.net/news/politics/20190320/warren-joins-chorus-calling-for-end-to-electoral-college
Hey Liz...STFU and STFD! |
That'll screw over the "fly-over (red) states", and popular votes on both coasts (only) will elect our presidents...how "equal" is that as far as representation?
Yep, the founders are rolling in their graves already.
This "proposal" must never see the light of day.
And the crazies out there JUST keep getting crazier...don't they?
*** Next, time to drop by "Kitten Corner"...
I like being around daddy. He smells good. |
Violet came in while I was watching the Science Channel and crawled up onto me and fell asleep in my lap, and that made be nod out.
Fidgety? Who's fidgety? |
I will say that cat-purring is so relaxing.
Gallifrey has yet to master to "art" of laying down on Wifey or myself. He tends to be more "fidgety" that his sister.
But, there are brief times where he will lay down on one of us for a minute or two. We're trying to extend that.
*** Next up, let's check in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
Our furry twosome spent most all day near our house, and that was fine, especially when the drizzle rolled in later in the day.
She REALLY gets into eating... |
And, when I went to get the mail, Midnight comes from behind the house across the street, meowing at me.
Okay, I'm back. I get treats now? |
They both got more treats after dinner (we all didn't get soaked anyway).
*** Last back to the wet sidewalk...I almost fell out of my chair in disbelief when I heard about THIS:
https://www.dailysignal.com/2019/03/13/rep-liz-cheney-defends-colleges-world-needs-more-cowboys-slogan/
A marriage that lasted. |
Native American inclusion. |
But before we do, let's all take a minute to read THIS article:'
http://www.gopusa.com/the-cowboy-way-is-the-latest-target-of-political-correctness/
Good old Gene Autry and his TEN POINT COWBOY CODE.
1, The Cowboy must never shoot first, hit a smaller man, or take unfair advantage.
2. He must never go back on his word, or a trust confided in him.
3. He must always tell the truth.
4. He must be gentle with children, the elderly, and animals.
5. He must not advocate or possess racially or religiously intolerant ideas.
6. He must help people in distress.
7. He must be a good worker.
8. He must keep himself clean in thought, speech, action, and personal habits.
9. He must respect women, parents, and his nation’s laws.
10. The Cowboy is a patriot.
Where did the innocence go? |
In those days, there was not ONE of those cowboys that didn't live up to that "code". And they were role models for a lot of us.
In many ways, the world would be MUCH better off if MORE people adopted that code.
Ethical behavior at it's purest...
Sure doesn't sound racist OR sexist to me.
It does sound correct in both principle and practice, though.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Well, nooner today and whole plant shut tomorrow... being ahead has its disadvantages... I was cutting April Fools Day and later today- including stuff we can't sew until some clips come in next week, thanks to our pathetic version of an inventory system...
Hmmm... on Philly I have seen it made the "poorest cities list", and it is experiencing a wave of black girls going missing... world is going to crap.
"The Good Brother": Lovely family, bet reunions are a blast!
Warren true story: Chuck Woolery ran with a tweet about how she used to be a SS teacher, but messed up her favorite Bible verse. Read the story, she missed the verse by one chapter. I called him out for being petty, and two other tweeters jumped me for being "a liberal". Jackasses come in all flavors...
Cowboy code: How did #5 get in there?
Chris:
---The only disadvantage is NOT being paid...everything else is an advantage.
(that's just the way I always looked at it)
---When I started at Circuit City, I was tasked with being the facility's PARTS MANAGER.
Had to keep track of LOTS of electronic inventory (loads of small stuff).
After a time, we had an inventory capable of fixing anything and everything we sold, going back several years.
I used to tell the techs there that "If I can't get it, it doesn't exist!"
Even won a couple regional awards for that.
A proper inventory CAN be had.
---Philadelphia - cradle of liberty, city of brotherly love...NOT any longer (sad).
See what DECADES of DEMOCRATIC rule does?
---"A blast"...LOL! No doubt.
---Warren a SS teacher? Like to go up against her (next life...heh).
---Believe it or else, the COWBOY CODE dates back to 1948 (or thereabouts).
It predates even ME! So #5 musta been way ahead of it's time.
Hey, thanks much for stopping by to comment.
Stay safe (riding the range) up there, brother.
