Friday Follies...
Don't let that beautiful sunrise fool you folks...there will be rain coming back into our picture. Yeah, it's too good to last, isn't it?
Seems we're having more of a "rainy season" this year, and that's rather odd.
Perhaps the Earth DID shift on it's axis, and no one's saying anything to avert a worldwide panic.(we may never find out)
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us mostly sunny skies to begin with, temps rising back into the upper 70s and yes, clouds will roll in by this afternoon with the possibility of some rain following along.
Any plans for this evening should include taking that umbrella...just in case.
"Mmm...good java."
Now...let's get the day (and weekend) started with a glass, cup, or mug of Friday Fortitude, as we see what else has (and will be) going on...
*** First out of the coffee pot is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
MAY 24 -
National Road Trip Day
National Cooler Day
(yeah, I wish it WAS...cooler that is)
Aviation Maintenance Technician Day
Brother’s Day
(I'm an only child, but I still have "brothers" out there)
National Scavenger Hunt Day
National Escargot Day
(it's a frigging slug with a house on it's back)
National Wyoming Day
(here's to Momma Fargo's home-state)
National Don’t Fry Day
(I did once...JUST once, and in Florida)
*** Next, and since week's end has arrived, let's see what we can observe over the following 48 hours...
MAY 25 -
National Missing Children’s Day
(almost becoming an epidemic)
National Tap Dance Day
National Brown-Bag It Day
National Wine Day
(isn't this a liberal holiday?)
MAY 26 -
National Blueberry Cheesecake Day
(ANY form of cheesecake is welcome)
National Paper Airplane Day
(actually, it's a paper GLIDER)
There we are then...plenty of stuff to keep you otherwise occupied and out of the local jails. Always remember to observe responsibly.
*** Next up...it's our Friday with O'Reilly column:
https://www.billoreilly.com/b/Mayor-Pete-vs.-Thomas-Jefferson/150082525246310275.html?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=staff_column
Bill's right. You can't judge any of our founders by "modern" codes of conduct.
That's idiocy, especially in our morally-deficient world, increasingly devoid of Biblical standards (on which our nation WAS founded).
***  Next...Tony Bennett may have left his heart in San Francisco, and these days, it's not difficult to see why he might want it back...
Get the poop maps out, it's downtown Frisco.
Here's the lowdown on another once great city:
https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/how-san-francisco-broke-americas-heart/ar-AABGKVD?ocid=spartandhp
How much things have changed just from the days of Bullitt and Dirty Harry.
Feeling lucky, Pelosi?
And when the progressives find things messed up, you KNOW this city's gone to the dogs. Sad to see this sort of thing.
This is a very revealing story...and a cautionary tale of how NOT to move a city forward. Fort Wayne, take note.
*** Next up,we once again start another weekend off in Ft. Wayne with another BANG!.
Here's what's known so far:
https://wpta21.com/news/top-stories/2019/05/24/police-investigate-shooting-at-fort-wayne-apartment-complex/
FWPD answered a call of a shooting which took place around 1400 hrs at the Waterloo Gardens (or Eastwood Point - take your pick - different name, same human refuse) apartment complex located at 3400 Cheviot Drive - deep in the heart of the SE ghettohood.
One male was found dead, so this could make NINE homicides for the year.
(and we've plenty of year to go, kids...)
*** Next, time to stop by our "Kitten Corner"...
He likes to nod out on the perch in the window.
Another day of quiet with the kids. Aside from feeding, they were pretty much out of it , and by that, I mean napping the day away.
Can't blame 'em. It was a day to do a lot less than usual.
Dining room chairs work well for her.
Both Violet and Gallifrey took things quite easy. Got a bit warm outside, so we cranked on the A/C.
They took to their own spots to catch up on some sleep.
*** Next up, let's do our final check in this week with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
"Half a day without rain is better than none."
Our furry twosome once again had to deal with the changing locations of where their food was placed. We started out under the table, then by midday, we were our from under it (again).
Midnight got a bit soaked early on, but dried out by the afternoon.
Whiskers didn't have such a fate, as she got smart and was in a shelter.
"I know, but I HATE being wet."
And of course, we had both morning and evening back step treats...something ALL of us look forward to nowadays.
Yes, they are very spoiled, but I can blame that on these two being such GOOD teachers (for me)...lol.
*** Last back to the homestead...okay, it's Memorial Day weekend, and you know what that means...
It's time for all good men to blow the dust off the grill and have a cookout (with the weather this weekend...good luck), retail sales out the wazoo, and of course, time to watch "The Greatest Spectacle in Motor Racing"...the Indy 500.
Well, except for the "500", I'm taking a pass on all the other "activities".
I don't feel the need to prove my "manhood" by taking to grilling. I pick our cookouts carefully, few and far between as they are.
I let all the "locals" take care of charring meat and being loud while doing it (as they always are).
Naturally, we're also starting "fireworks season"...something that needs to be regulated more than it is. Scares the pets and our furry duo.
Now, if I'm sounding a bit on the curmudgeonly side, that's too bad, because that's how I feel.
Memorial Day should mean more than JUST having fun, which anyone can do so many other weekends of the year (weather permitting).
It's about placing American flags on military graves...not as much fun as a cookout, but a helluva lot more meaningful, and we all should know why that is.
It's about a day of remembrance - those who gave all so that we could be free.
It's a day of reverence...a day to be thankful...a day to acknowledge those who have fallen in the service of our nation, as well as those who serve to preserve this country.
It's so much more than what is portrayed, and we should take time to think on that. It might do us all better .
Do have yourselves a good weekend.
Be well, make a difference to someone today, and as always...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

See 'ya next week.

Memorial Day was always a big community day in my old small town. Lots of people, lots of food, lots of flowers at the cemetery--it was celebration of life.

Susan:
Memorial day used to be a pretty big deal back in Philly, too, but that was ages ago (like the mid-60s).
They had huge parades down Ben Franklin Pkwy. Around our neighborhoods, we dressed up our bikes and trikes with red, white, and blue crepe paper and streamers.
It's good to see that the small town celebrations are still in play.
It gives you hope for mankind.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Have yourself a great memorial Day weekend.

Stay safe out there.

So the rain didn't make much of a dent in today. Good walk, got things done.

Hopefully today (Saturday) will be the same.

O'Reilly: And see, that's the bankruptcy of the progressives, everything gets judged by THEIR standards, and as a march toward THEIR goals. Anything outside must be erased.

Speaking of Pelosi, seems she did a presser after a 10-martini lunch the other day...

"Our Daily Shooting..." Sad motto for this city...

---Yep, this rain is so unpredictable as far as duration and time of day. Glad you gt a walk in.
Weekend's gonna be muggy (and watch for mosquitoes).
---Precisely the point. Who gave them any authority to establish "their" standards?
ANY standards should be mutually arrived at, and benefit the greater good (and have some biblical aspects, imho).
---She is a waste of humanity...her "stutter-factor" is off the bloody charts.
She acts like she's had a few strokes (and several drinks).
---It IS sad, but becoming all too true, my friend.

Thank you for taking time to drop by and comment.

Stay safe (and stay strong) up there, brother.
