Humpday Happenings...

Okay, so we did not get the rain they said we would yesterday...today could be different, though.
(hope you didn't put away the umbrellas)
And, I've noticed an increase in the number is speeders in just our area, so be aware of the rolling idiocy out there, especially with slick roads due to any wet conditions.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us scattered rain...with mostly cloudy/partly sunny (take your pick) skies, and temps climbing to around the 70 degree mark. It looks to be clearing, but the rain comes back by tomorrow.

Now, let's get that refreshing drink to chase the morning blahs away, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First off of the soggy grass  is our WHO SAID THAT? quote for the week:

"Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you." 
I think that this expression of happiness comes close to what I experience as I grow older.
And, it also demonstrates that the harder we TRY for something, the more it can elude us.
So, WHO said that? The answer will be at the top of tomorrow's post.

If by history-making you mean the person selected to represent MY district  (running unopposed AND a democrat, as usual) will actually DO something for the better down here...well, I'm (now) from Missouri - SHOW ME!
---Also, Tim Smith beat John Crawford for the GOP candidacy to (hopefully) unseat our reigning monarch of 12 years, King Henry.

Well, all I can say is that I wish Tim the best of luck...three others came before (who deserved to be a better mayor than what this city settled for) and they were unfortunately beat. let's hope THIS time a republican candidate) gets the job done.

Candidate Tom Schrader got busted for criminal mischief (he's got some mental problems). Seems he defaced a bench with the banned "N" word and drew a swastika, too.
They say there is a fine line between genius and madness. Does Schrader know something WE don't?
*** Next up, I've been looking into a lawn care (mowing) service to do our front and side lawns.

(the ones with the hills).
First, I called Carr's (on Pennsylvania St), but they only use stand up 52" mowers (not a good thing for our hills), so that wasn't happening. They did provide me with a place that does smaller lawns, so I might ring them up and see what we can do.
I also called Leeper's (out on Winchester Rd near the Richardville House), but their schedule is full for the season and they're not taking any new clients.
I did find a place that does driveways, concrete steps repair and might even work on retaining walls (all of which we could use help with). Our driveway needs gravel and grading, our front steps are crumbling with age, and our patio wall is bowing out from the ground sinking and shifting. That's the "short list" for now.
*** Next, it's once again time to drop by "Kitten Corner"...

Who's acting crazy? Not me (right now).

The kids made up for the lack of rain by getting into their "crazy mood" for a while yesterday. It wasn't bad, because I basically just watched them fly through the house until they wore themselves out. After that, it was time to nap.

"I'm staying close by daddy for no reason".

I will say that at their worst, they are still much better-behaved than most of the children in our area.
At least they're a LOT quieter, which is always welcome.
*** Next up, let's do our check in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
Our furry twosome began the day with back step treats.
They made both breakfast and dinner, but were a bit on the tardy side for lunch.

Well fed...and well-loved.

I will say they both enjoyed the very nice weather by taking it easy on the patio in the afternoon. I will try and feed them in the open like yesterday, but if it starts to rain, it's back under the patio table.
*** Last back to the litterpan...I still remember when I first moved here.

What I left.

It appeared so much nicer for me, as compared with how Philadelphia was going downhill (which was a tragedy in it's own right). Fifty plus years of democrat rule will do that to ANY city (trust me).

What I got now.

It wasn't long before I began to see disturbing similarities between Philly and our part of Fort Wayne. The rest of the city was still fine.

Only game on the SE side.

The same problems were rearing their ugly heads once again, only this time, Wifey and I were caught hip-deep in this "change"., which didn't instill a sense of well-being with me.
After 2 decades, my feelings along such lines were proven right, and it's really annoying to be correct when it comes to things that are really bad, and chronic, and growing with every year.
There are those who feel we're doing okay as a city (they're sadly mistaken in some respects).
There are those who know we have problems, but haven't done anything to change things (they are fooling themselves).
There are those who couldn't give a rat's ass when it comes to the city's problems (they happen to live near us in droves).

NOT seeing THIS where we live any longer. 

And then, there are people like US, who WANT a better city, a better neighborhood, and a better quality-of-life. We believe that to institute changes for the better (for everyone), it might take a hard hand on the wheel. Many don't even want to pursue that, and that does not help anyone at all.

Many simply choose NOT to accept this.

But to make a city thrive, you need ALL of it working together. You need to get a REAL handle on the crime, and you NEED to make everyone accountable for their own actions. You need people to take personal responsibility and not become government-sponsored leeches, sucking the life blood out of this city...or this country.
(time to me to drop the mic)
