Another "Baby" Killed....

Now before you jump to conclusions, it's not an infant, but rather the latest shooting victim in Fort Wayne (homicide #4 for those keeping score). Derious Fuqua died yesterday from gunshots sustained at the Three Fountain Apartments in the 3300 block of McKinnie Ave. Now I could ramble on about how BAD it is when anyone is killed, but Derious Fuqua was anything BUT an "upstanding citizen" of this fair city, and therefore basically undeserving of my pity.

Mr. Fuqua HAD a criminal history, make no mistake about that, and he had numerous chances to turn that around, as did the other men involved in these shooting, both as shooters and as victims:

Jonathan Rhodes - convicted in 2004 for cocaine possession, possession of a handgun w/o a license, and 2 counts of resisting law enforcement (still at large). (found time to get a gun though and get turned back onto our streets)

Antwain James Hines - served time since 2001 for carrying a handgun w/o a license, armed robbery, unlawful firearm possession by a felon, and robbery. (and yet he had another gun)

Theodore Terrell Johnson - convicted of 5 counts of armed robbery in 2002, served time in prison for those charges. (obviously didn't learn MUCH in there)

Percy Riley - just released from prison for felony resisting law enorcement officers -on foot and in a vehicle. (another perp that didn't learn a damn thing in jail)

Derious Fuqua (pictured at left)- traffic violations, last arrested on 19 Dec on a charge of resisting law enforcement. (he can't follow rules of the road, but can hang with felons and make babies)

So there we have it,...five outstanding "examples" of society. We're NOT exactly talking "angelic" here, are we?

Yet once again, we hear "the family" (of Mr. Fuqua) describe him as "an easygoing guy who loved basketball, football, video games and his CHILDREN". He was only 21, which means he has sired at least ONE child and apparently had all this time to STAY HOME and be WITH those children. I guess getting a JOB wasn't on the "menu", but hanging around with other FELONS was, right? Seems we had am ongoing parole violation somewhere. Fuqua was known as a "Mama's boy"....like "mom" was such a good influence on him, that he turned right away from ANY criminal activity...NOT! His sister went on to say that he as "spolied"...gee, if that means doing whatever the hell you want and having absolutely NO responsibility at all...mom did HER job REALLY well! "He was her baby", she said.

And therein lies the gist of our blog...another "baby" killed.

If the black community can't see a plethora of problems related to this situation, that would go a long way to explain why things are "the way they are" in our neighborhoods....wouldn't it?
"Babys" dont get slapped in jail before they're 21.
"Babys" don't wind up having kids before they're 21.
"Babys" don't hang with convicted felons.
See where I'm going with this?

All this "my baby" crap is just that...so much "drama from the mama", and I become incensed when I see someone who is SUPPOSED to be responsible enough to raise a child properly, having to bury her "baby" because she didn't know her ass from a hole in the ground when it came to parenting! But maybe this NEXT generation of child "baby-makers" will be better?

I hope so...but it not looking all that good from what I can see.
