Sure, he USED to be the Ball State mascot in that Charlie Cardinal getup, but now Doug Jones is making a larger name for himself (even if people aren't mobbing him for his autograph just "yet").
If you saw Hellboy (Abe Sapien), Mimic (Long John #2), or even Pan's Labyrinth (the pale man), there he was, wrapped up in makeup. And to think the Journal Gazette thought he was incapable of selling display advertising. Take THAT, you skeptics! I know he's smiling...all the way to the bank on that one!
His latest gig has him playing (imho) a remarkable comic book character in the next installment of the Fantasic Four Movies, namely the SILVER SURFER. This character is one DEEP guy....and to say that this character has a conscience (and a damn good backstory) is a gross understatement! Anyone who has ever followed the Surfer's exploits KNOWS this, but if you're too YOUNG to even know WHO the Surfer is..get thee to a comic book store (like Doug did) and bone up, because you will find one intriguing persona behind all that "Silver".
Personally, I can't wait to see how the movies treat this character. I would have preferred to see himin his OWN movie, complete with his origin (just like SS#1 back in 1968...a collector's item, of which I have TWO...check what the going price for that 25 cent comic is worth TODAY). I think the Surfer can stand on his own two feet (on his cosmic surfboard), but as long as the storyline remains intact, it will be good, regardless.
Doug is enjoying the "ride" thoughout this, knowing all the time that success in acting can be one of the most fleeting venues on the planet. He takes it all in stride.
Now there's a Real "Indiana Jones" if ever there was one.
