If you groggily got up this morning, looked out the window, and visions of the Ice Planet HOTH came to mind...you're not alone! Some of you no doubt suffered flashbacks to 1978 and the blizzard that happened around this SAME time of year. And there might be some of you that have some mental picture of the Donner Party (especially with the kids screaming and running around at home and cabin-fever setting in like that relative that never knows when to leave). There might even be a few of you that think that McMurdo or Thule AFB is "looking pretty damn good right about now", I'll bet. Winter is HERE...make NO mistake about that. The FWPD are even suggesting that all cars be parked OFF-street (for the plows no doubt). That won't happen here...people are too lazy in my area.
The snowmobilers will be dusting off their machines, taking to the streets, and proving once again that you CAN be an idiot, no matter WHAT you drive.
Having had to drive myself in weather such as this, means one thing and one thing alone...GO SLOW, DON'T COME TO A COMPLETE STOP (unless you really have to..it's a physics-traction thing), and make sure what's SUPPOSED to be working on your vehicle DOES...(like the defroster)!
This storm has the potential to dump about a foot of the flaky white stuff (no, not dandruff) upon us, and although we're not as fortunate as say...BUFFALO (where they average this much every other day), we should take precautions to ensure our health and safety. Drive carefully (if you even have to venture outside). Have an emergency kit on board (blankets, cellphone or 2-way radio, flares, etc). Remember, however long you THINK it will take to get from *A* to *B*...add about a half hour AT LEAST! And do plan for those that have NO idea what they're doing along the roads today, KAPESH?
A word to the wise IS sufficient...and a hot cup o' chocolate (or even some Java with sa shot o' bourbon) is a damn good way to sit by the window and watch OTHER PEOPLE outside...!

we've nothing but rain, rain, rain.
looks like the forcast is for more rain, rain, rain. But, we might get freezing rain and flurries a few days from now.
Heh...I'll TRADE 'ya!!!
;)

I can't imagine what it's like for Buffalo and their nighbors but they are used to it. What's more amusing if you are not in their traffic, and less amusing if you are, is the southern cities of the U.S. that can't handle a half inch of snow.
I know....if it wasn't so damn dangerous to be ON the roads with them, it'd be hilarious!
Driving (in bad weather) in those states is a WHOLE other "volleyball game"!
Buffalo...where the men AND women have the best upper arm strength on the planet (next to the Ukraine) thanks to ALL that snow...LMAO!
