Friday Follies....

First weekend of summer, and time again for another dose of truth, justice and the AMERICAN way (where's Superman when you need him anyway?)...

Item - OK, so Matt Kelty is exonerated by the Board of Elections...THEN a "citizens' group" decides to contact the prosecutor who shuffles the investigation to another county prosecutor, so Mr. Kelty might still face a slew of (imho) trumped-up charges...yeah, I can smell the sour grapes all the way DOWN here on the SOUTH side of town.

Item - Four shootings in as many days in Fort Wayne SHOULD have a lot more citizens concerned...and it doesn't appear to. We're up to FOURTEEN now for those with the gambling pools at work. Looking more like we might hit THIRTY by year's end, isn't it?

Item - The overwhelmingly LONG Simon Rios murder trial is costing close to half a MILLION bucks. Ya' know...with all the legal devices defense attorneys use to try to get their clients off (when everyone knows damn well they're guilty as hell), they just keep playing the system to make it SO costly to even pursue a REAL trial, that locking these perps up in some hoosegow looks a helluva lot cheaper by comparison. That's just plain wrong on SO many levels. Where IS the justice these days?

Item - The Austin TX Juneteenth murder of a passenger is being downplayed. It was first reported that a "mob" of angry people beat a man to death...and now, like a tropical storm, it's been "downgraded" to a mere "handful". Everyone else were witnesses (yeah right....and that L.A. trucker, Reginald Denny was beat in a similar fashion years ago by just a mere handful ...other "onlookers" were just returning some bricks to Mr. Denny...head first...yeah sure). Apparently, the "racial" aspect to the case is being swept under the rug. I'd wager it'd be front page headlines for WEEKS if the perps were asian, white or hispanic and the victim was black. But we can't offend those poor inner-city people with no hope of a decent life (that love to pillage, riot, and burn all for the sake of "diversity"). Sorry, people...that $hit don't float for me. never has...never will.

Item - The Allen County tax panel seems to have their worst foot forward in NOT notifying the public about a meeting to discuss a review of the local taxing "entities" (those 30+ that love to raise YOUR taxes). Seems Lisa Blosser (who needs a remedial course in how to read a CALENDAR) noticed the "mistake" (I'd call it a huge OVERSIGHT) and said it was not intentional (just selectively forgetful). The state law REQUIRES (doesn't sound like a REQUEST to me) that public notice be given AT LEAST 48 HOURS prior to such a meeting. Gee, Lisa...ever take a stroll through the pages of the state LAW BOOKS? You do WORK for the COUNTY, and last time I checked, they STILL have LAWS. We call it being PROACTIVE. I don't know what YOU call it, sweetheart.

Lastly, a letter to the editor (today's J-G) from someone who "GETS IT"...

Let people protect their homes, lives

Regarding the letter, “Make gun possession illegal in city limits” (June 8):
As an American and citizen of this state, I have a right to own a firearm. I have a valid permit to carry that firearm.
The homicide rate the letter mentions would not decline if banning guns from the city limits were to happen. Homicides may actually increase. Criminals, by definition, do not follow the law.

Imagine you were a criminal: Would you break into a house if you thought there was even a chance the owner might be home and might have a firearm? Then again, would you break into a house if guns were banned and the law-abiding homeowner would have no way to defend himself or herself?

I work for a security company in a retail grocery store chain, detecting and apprehending shoplifters. We have caught more than 250 in the last year. In a city where there are so many food banks that will give away food, people continue to steal it. The main reasons shoplifters give is that they do not qualify for assistance, have no job that can support their families or they are into drugs.

There are people who will break into your home, hurt you or kill you for what you have or for who you are. They will snatch your kids or rape your wife simply because they want to. They do drugs and will do whatever they can to get more. They carry guns, knives, clubs – all sorts of weapons – and they will use them. They do not care what the law says.

The police in Fort Wayne do a tough job, but they cannot be everywhere all the time. The few minutes it might take them to drive to your home can mean the difference between life and death.

There should be mandatory training for legal gun owners about laws, marksmanship, accuracy and other things.
If you choose not to own a gun, do not try to keep me from my constitutional right, my human right of self-defense and my right as a father to protect my family and my hard work.

STUART MILLER Fort Wayne

(Gee Stu...you sound a lot like the guy who RUNS this blog...!!!)

And there you go....lots to think about, unless you sent your brain on holiday (I hear Monaco's nice this time of year).
Here's hoping your weekend is as enjoyable as you can make it.

Stay Safe and Be Well
