Friday Follies....

Buckle up for another edition of THOSE stories that get the eyes rolling, the coffee spewing, and the laughs a'comin'...when you're not too busy getting cheesed off at the ridiculous nature of them that is.
Besides...buckling up is now the LAW...for EVERYONE...in EVERY vehicle.

Item - Raced-based diversity plans tossed:
Couldn't see THIS one coming our way, could we, even after the yearly decline in state test scores. The SUPREME COURT finally got it right....Chief Justice Roberts said that "by classifying students by race, the school districts are perpetuating the Unequal treatment the Brown decision outlawed. The way to STOP discrimination on the basis of race is to STOP discriminating on the basis of race". FWCS is affected by this decision to strike down "racially-balanced" schools, but they don't believe this will affect the SCHOOL CHOICE system currently in place (they must have saw this coming I guess). I say it's about time.....I only hope that AFFIRMATIVE ACTION is next on the Supreme Court's "honey-do" list!

Item - Fort Wayne has another homicide:
I know the pool at your work is growing with every passing week, so let's see how the scorecard reads. We're up to FIFTEEN homicides this year, almost EQUAL to last year's TOTAL. If you recall, I predicted THIRTY for this year. SO let's not disappoint those trying to win some money, OK? Yeah, it does sound a tad callous, but as long as drug dealers are going to keep shooting EACH OTHER, I've got NO problem with that one bit. Hell, I'd even offer to help, if the FWPD would look the other way for a few weeks, and offer to front the cost of ammo. Then again, I'm an idealist, albeit a cynical one....lol!

Item - Senate kills immigration bill:
President Bush took one on the chin with this one. He SHOULD have put forth a bill that would have secured the borders FIRST...then worry about all the ancillary aspects to this, which are quite numerous. But he HAD to side with some Dems, and found even his OWN party members jumping ship like rats off the Titanic! This will be a HUGE black mark on is presidency, and I suppose that's what one gets when trying to "sleep with the enemy", as it were. Time has come to take a FIRM stand on this immigration thing, build a damn fence, keep the illegals the hell OUT, and then get back to immigration as usual, namely following procedure that way it has worked for over a century!

Item - Indy mayor calls for tax relief:
Bart Peterson, mayor of Indianapolis (and erstwhile bane of the police force for TOO many reasons) decided to call the Governor to see about easing the property tax burden in his city (as well as across Indiana). Funny thing is, Bart doesn't have a major PLAN in place to submit....D'OH!
Peterson has "some" suggestions like state takeover of child welfare costs, as well as consolidating some government functions in Marion County. His city is under the gun already for increased crime, and corruption (as blogged by INDY UNDERCOVER), and this plan to the "Guv" came "out of the blue" (it's called a RE-ELECTION POSTURING PLOY...get used to it). I don't know what's worse...Indy mimicking Ft. Wayne, or Ft. Wayne imitating Indy. Either way, rest assured that YOU (the taxpayer) will get BONED...make NO mistake about it.

Item - Journal Gazette Perspective Page:
This page in today's local paper speaks to MUCH of what I've been blogging about this week, and that is PROPERTY TAXES. It doesn't paint a rosy picture either, so don't bother looking for ANY silver lining among these storm clouds soon, OK? Again...WE get boned, hosed, worked over, screwed...pick one (or all). City Council in Ft. Wayne has the chance to move the tax burden from property to income tax (in 2008) for future financial budget increase (which you KNOW are coming like a jail on wheels)...but they most likely will not. You know how they operate by now... Transparent? If by that you mean we can SEE THROUGH their CRAP, then OK...I agree. Anything other than that and I'd have to say no.

Lastly, we're getting ready for the 4th of July...fireworks...cookouts....all the things we've come to know and love. And it's all in the name of FUN...forget the fight our forefathers went through to secure our liberty and freedom, OK? Just get drunk, and stupid, and have FUN. We'll talk more later about how we're missing this boat later next week.

In the meantime, have a great weekend, stay safe, and be well.

Being I'm in the county and not the city, I said months ago that they'd find a way to screw us too! I knew it was coming. While I understand that the city folks pay a great deal more taxes than those of us in the county, It's not right for the CITY council to make these choices. As the School House Rock song "No More Kings" says "that's taxation without representation, and that's WRONG"!

I'm not for higher taxes for those living La Vida Loca in the country....just some fairness for all the money we dump every year into these budgetary black holes called CITIES.
And I truly believe it can be accomplished WITHOUT bilking us further with HIGEHR property taxes, no matter WHERE you live.

I'll wager the city council heavily influences what the COUNTY council decides as to what goes where, who does what to whom (and when), and so on...

SO if we're destined to live within a fiefdom, the LEAST they can do is let me:

1) Dig a moat around my house.

2) Have a trebuchet out front.

3) Make me a KNIGHT!

That way I can keep those varlets and oafs from my ramparts...yea, verily!
