Happy Hump day...
I don't know about YOU, but it's been a NON-STOP day for me thus far.
Now I FINALLY have some blogging time. SO I apologize for the late post, I know there those of you that can't do without your daily "fix" of pungent social commentary from my favorite cynical optimist.
First off, I was up AND out mowing the lawn before 0700. Even then, it was sweat-breaking time. But at least ONE person has a damn fine looking lawn. Even has the diagonal lines like Wrigley Field...LOL!
Had to clean up the mower, put that away and get on with the next "item of interest".
Did was a brief cleanup on myself, a change of outfit and off to MENARDS for some needed supplies. Oh, I WAS downing some highly-sweetened COFFEE during all this time, just in case you were wondering WHAT I was "running" on.
Got back from Menards with the missus (who had her honeydew list in hand). It was off to repair the trellis (the only victim from all the wind the other night). It's not broken, just "bent" a tad, so I shored up the base legs in the ground, and called THAT done. Think of it as placing a splint on a broken leg. And it WORKS.
Next was seedling transplantation...one of MY personal favorites (rolls eyes).
Nah, it's OK...just tedious, as you HAVE to be careful NOT to damage the root system OF the delicate plant stems. If the soil comes out of the container WITH an intact root system...all the better.
With THAT done, I can FINALLY get down to some of the REAL business at hand...namely getting SOMETHING to eat (followed by a nice nap with some classical music in the background). Yeah, we "seasoned" people like our down times!
Luckily, when choosing sustenance today, I've got tons of Chinese food left over from last evening. As my wife would remind you..."SHE COOKED"...LOL!
So here's to a nice garden, some seedlings taking root, tomatoes ALREADY on the vine and getting LARGER (sneaky little buggers were hiding under those large leaves on the plants). I've about FIFTY or more yellow flowers on the vines, and (apparently) about 2 dozen tomatoes now.
Looks like they'll be ready to eat in about a week or so...YUM-MY!
So we don' need no steekin tomatoes......I grow my OWN now, amigo.
Finally, we got the next installment of the AGE OF EMPIRES series of PC games (I just love world conquest...don't you?). Now I can give America back to the Native Americans (just like I did in South America when I had the Aztecs conquer Cortez...bwahahahaha). And wait until Napoleon gets a load of ME...!
Yeah, it's not the "real" world...but it sure is an INTERESTING world on this computer
And just so you don't think I missed the news today -
City Council voted YES (except Tom Smith) of the TAX ABATEMENT for the Costaplenty Square Hotel gig. I can see his point, however MOOT it might be now. I mean Council already gave the green light for the project abatement and the retail abatement. Why stop now?
Let's keep tossing enough $hi...I mean MONEY into this...it might just pan out.
Council ALSO approved a TAX HIKE for CITILINK (who is one of THOSE OVER THIRTY TAXING ENTITIES I told you about MONTHS ago that CAN levy increases).
And to think that YEARS ago, this city HAD a vibrant PUBLIC TRANSIT SYSTEM (as well as INTER-CITY rail lines).
And the cities & counties pissed them ALL away. All for the sake of suburban sprawl. I read up on your local history, being a former rail fan and all.
So now they want to reinvent several types of wheel, renew interest in something they should have NEVER gotten rid of, and even seek NEW forms of transit (rail line again).
Helluva way practice DAMAGE CONTROL, isn't it?
Kinda makes that statement the reader on the OP-ED page of the J/G make SO much sense when he called Fort Wayne a 3rd rate backwater hick town. Trouble I have with that, is that HICKS and GHETTOS don't mix too well.
The 3rd rate thing makes more sense, though...right?
In some ways, cities like Portland and Decatur and even Auburn have it WAY over us.
We just want to be like Indy.
And by the looks of things around here, we're GETTING THERE in more ways that anyone can imagine.
Never knew this city had the *E* ticket ride to Hades.
Makes Mr. Toad tame by comparison.
Maybe DISNEY should know about this.
