Much Ado About The Weekend...
We've got a relatively full plate today, so let's have at it.
--The South is still the most obese.
Yeah, and "experts" claim that POVERTY is to blame for a lot of it. Mississippi ranks #1 on the hit list. Sorry if I come off a bit crass here, but the LAST time I checked, people who were poverty-stricken had a tendency to have LESS MONEY which translates to LESS FOOD, ergo, they didn't eat AS MUCH. When I think poverty and/or starving, I think of the little kids in Africa that look like survivors from DACHAU prison during WW2.
I mean you can count their ribs at a distance, for Cripes sake!
Now these "experts" also claim that cheap food is fattening. I'll give them THAT, but like I said, when you can't even AFFORD cheap food, you don't exactly look like a damn Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade balloon, now DO you?
Better to starve oneself once in a while, to recoup that level of HUMILITY that seems to be sorely lacking with today's Americans. To understand a problem is the first step to solving it. Maybe if more people thought THAT way, we could actually wend world hunger, and all be a tad slimmer in the process.
--FWPD & Sheriff to seek "common" facility.
Well, with TWO deteriorating buildings for the police AND the sheriff's department staring these respective agencies in the face, it only seems fair that since they BOTH need new headquarters, they should be UNDER the SAME roof, so to speak. The FWPD's Creighton St. building lease runs out nest year.
And it does means being closer to the JAIL and the COURTHOUSE. Wow, it seems JUST like Philly with their "Roundhouse" (4th & Race Sts), only they ALSO have their holding cells there as well. But what about that one building Allen County supposedly blew $300K (for the new sheriff's department) on anyway? Another white elephant loose in the COUNTY? How novel in concept and execution.
IGA store in Fort Wayne to close.
And after SIXTY YEARS...who'da thunk? Another icon from a better past gone. Then again, since THAT part of the city is more top-heavy (with retail) than Dolly Parton could ever hope to be, it's small wonder the store hung in for this long. Blame the mega-super stores that moved in with the developers' blessing, screwing the local stores in the process. And by ALL means, blame the damn DEVELOPERS that were allowed to build...and build...and build some more.
Isn't that what initially fostered the DECLINE of the DOWNTOWN area?
If it's not lightning striking TWICE, it's what goes around comes back around (to bite the citizens and store owners in the ass yet again), hmm?
--More meth labs found in Fort Wayne.
And we're supposed to be surprised by this...HOW?
We've already reached the TOTAL from last year's meth lab busts, and you can bet a large part of the farm that we're far from the GRAND total (which you can expect to grow in years to come).
It would appear that the single bottle cookers have found a niche (and a supply line) in the Summit City. Nice to know that the pot growers have some competition. Maybe a "price war" will result? Be great to see the dealers killing one ANOTHER off for a change, instead of the citizenry (which they do anyway with the poison they dole out in abundance). It would probably shock the hell out of a LOT of the people in this city if they KNEW how many people are involved in drugs, either by selling, or (even worse) using. Let's just say that it's close to the 50% mark in USAGE (amazing, huh?), so at least ONE person on YOUR street is wasting money in a bad way.
--The Dark Knight is Back.
The second of the "new" Batman series premieres today (actually it was midnight last night) with Christian Bale returning as our favorite seeker of justice. The late Heath Ledger stars as the Joker (and Nicholson he sure as hell AIN'T).
The History channel ran a special about the psychology behind Batman, and I have to admit, there might be more than a little "dark knight" in many of us. If they rerun it, give it a watch.
You won't be disappointed. Same can be said for this movie.
Even Roger Ebert gave it FOUR stars.
Funny thing, everyone loved Micheal Keaton's Batman as well, but THIS series delves a LOT deeper into the minds of of the main characters. It's much like the Frank Miller graphic novel of the same title. This is about as "dark" as a superhero movie can become while still being entertaining and not turning us off in the process of enthralling us with it's presentation. If a superhero has "issues" to deal with, then Bruce Wayne is their poster boy
And he carries the banner well.
Do NOT be surprised if this movie tops all box office records this weekend, as people have sold out today's showings. Move over Spiderman and Iron Man. Looks like we might have a new top dog on the porch.
So as the TRF wraps up this weekend, note that you've been given the $2 tour of the news and entertainment to get you started on your way.
Remember the heat and humidity this weekend, and take the proper precautions. No kids or pets in cars, sunblock, plenty of fluids...yeah, you've heard it ALL before. But hey, I'm only looking out for your safety.
Whether we know it or not..we ARE all in this (whatever this might be) together.
Do have a safe weekend, wherever you go.

Actually, two of the drug dealers here have been shooting back and forth at each other during this past week. Evidently they haven't been properly trained on how to use a firearm as neither has hit their mark.

Damn...!!

We could "help" them with that...couldn't we?
(very evil laughter)

Be nice if the POLICE would help as well.

We can but hope, my friend.

Bob,

I tried to e-mail you a story but it got rejected - anyway I thought you might enjoy it. Evidently Flint has instituted a no-sag policy and is threatening to throw people in the slammer if they don't pull up their pants...

I read that on another blog (Leo Morri or Dan Turkette, I think), so I scooted over to the Flint newspapers and checked it ou.
All I can say is:
ABOUT DAMN TIME!

Now, "IF ONLY" the FWPD could institute something similar, I wouldn't be staring at more butt cracks than an appliance reparmens convention...LOL!
Oh, but then there's the "cultural diversity" BS we'd be hearing from the local chapter of the ICLU and NAACP.
My take...look like a damn SLOB, expect me to TREAT you as such.
Simple, huh?

Thanks for the *411*, Jeff.
