So Long...Farewell...
Aufedersein, Goodbye...to 2008, that is (to borrow from The Sound of Music).
And tomorrow, we'll be fully ensconced in a "new" year, which will seem pretty much like the PAST year, but with newer calendars that have different numbers on them.
We've said goodbye to our share of celebs, and that's for other people to commemorate. We've seen our share of "stuff" in the media, with liberals bashing our commander-in-chief at every turn, showing little respect for the office of PRESIDENT (expect that to change when Obamaessiah takes office in 20 days). And we've seen our share of turmoil, tumult, and trepidation in the world.
Individually, we've hopefully weathered the bad $hit, and look forward to a much needed breather from all the "fun", until we're off and running again as fate steps in for another 365 days.
Personally, I'm looking forward to pretty much the SAME OLD $hit around here.
The people AROUND us will NEVER change (except for the worse, no matter HOW many entitlements they receive from the "gub'ment"), so that's a given.
And Wifey and I will have to contend once again with all the crap these mooks toss down the pike at us, JUST because we're tax-paying homeowners (who just so happen to be Caucasian)...not the "best" situation to have in an area trying it's damnedest to be the next Midwest ghetto.
But still, we did manage to stave off the elements (for the most part), have a relatively calm year in 2008 (only had to call the police about ONCE a month, instead of TWICE a month for the local morons), and yesterday, Wifey and I FINALLY took those 2 huge bags of dry dog & cat food to the local ASPCA shelter for our four-legged friends (who appreciate we "band of strangers" more than those that pass for "neighbors" around here, apparently). And that felt DAMN good to do.
Our trees have been trimmed, branches removed and the place LOOKS as nice as it did BEFORE the weather kicked us in the family jewels (and bit us in the Hip-National-Bank).
So, good riddance to 2008.
I never really wanted to know ye.
Now, what would I "like" to see in 2009?
(you mean aside from a handful of miracles and the Second Coming?)
Let's see now...
-I'd LOVE to see ALL these asshats move (far) AWAY from us, and have some decent, CIVIL, normal RESPECTFUL people move in (like some VETS...or cripes, I'd even take GAYS at this point...at least the wife could get some interior design tips from them...lol)
And if THEY can't move away from US...then I'd at LEAST like to have the financial ability to move (on MY terms) far away from THEM. The sad thing about that would be to wonder what would become of THIS house, and how decrepit it would soon become with more of the "locals" moving into it.
--I'd like to see the police ENFORCE the laws a LOT more than is currently the case, and to hell with this "racial profiling" crap. It's CRIMINAL profiling...period. Get off the eggshells, and walk tall, gang.
--I'd also like to see the police allow me to practice my "skills" within the neighborhood (just ignore those loud explosions...nothing to see here...just testing for DARPA, that's all)
--I'd LIKE to see our new President be able to succeed with turning the economy around, but with the Middle East still in existence, and the "bailout" for damn near everyone with their hands out, I don't see that happening soon enough. America will correct itself nicely, and probably a lot faster and better IF ONLY it were left alone to do so.
I'm not planning a "resolution", but I will try to watch more of the classic TV shows on cable channels, simply because it evokes a much better time in America, if only for an hour or so. Well, that, and the fact that current shows offer little in the form of SUBSTANCE, aside from a VERY select few.
I don't ask for much for myself...just the ability to LIVE the remainder of my life in relative calm, free from having to worry about WHAT might come sailing through a window at any moment, or whether all our possessions will still be here should Wifey and I take a day trip to visit the relatives somewhere.
--I'd like to have a lawn that's free from external intrusion from the kids that have been brought up with no respect whatsoever for anyone or anything else.
Be nice to sit down for a whole HOUR and not have to be at some window because I hear a bunch of people shouting at one another (talking, that is at elevated levels, as they seem to do)
--Be really nice to get a good night's sleep and not be awakened by thumping past our house to all hours.
But, if there is ONE thing I have come to embrace in all my years here, it's that HOPE can be a sustaining factor.
Yet hope alone, without wisdom, without perseverance, without purpose, means nothing at all.
We may hope for a better tomorrow, but if we just sit back and wait for that "hope" to kick in all by itself, without doing a single thing, we will have a VERY long wait.
May the New Year bring the motivation, the persistence, the vigor we all need to have our lives renewed.
And may we all be able to make a difference...somewhere...to someone.
So, as "we" hunker down to dodge and otherwise AVOID the (illegal) celebratory gunfire that will be taking place around MY neighborhood in several hours...
Let me leave you with the lyrics of a song that kinda says it all...about some better things anyway...
Another New Year's Eve - Barry Manilow
Don't look so sad, It's not so bad you know.

It's just another night,
That's all it is, it's not the first, It's not the worst you know,
We've come through all the rest,
We'll get through this.
We've made mistakes, But we've made good friends too.
Remember all the nights we spent with them?
And all our plans,
Who says they can't come true?
Tonight's another chance to start again.
It's just another New Year's Eve,
Another night like all the rest.
It's just another New Year's Eve,
Let's make it the best.
It's just another New Year's Eve,
It's just another Auld Lang Syne,
But when we're through this New Year You'll see,
will be Just fine.
We're not alone, we've got the world you know.
And it won't let us down, just wait and see.
And we'll grow old,
but think how wise we'll grow.
There's more you know, it's only New Year's Eve.
It's just another New Year's Eve,
Another night like all the rest.
It's just another New Year's Eve,
Let's make it the best.
It's just another New Year's Eve,
It's just another Auld Lang Syne,
But when we're through this New Year, you'll see,
will be Just fine.

Catch you NEXT YEAR, people.

Did you hear about Chrysler putting the $100k one-page ad in the Wall Street Journal "thanking the US people for their help" in bailing them out? Yeah, let's use all that money that could've been used to, oh I don't know, KEEP THE COMPANY GOING AND KEEP WORKERS ON THE PAYROLL, on an ad! Brilliant I say, BRILLIANT!

Stupid idiots.

My husband and I were NOT amused.

My husband is also worried about Nobama cutting back the military like Clinton did and losing his job. He's been in the Army for ten years now and is very antsy at the moment. He does have a job that he can fall back on (he is the equivalent of what a nursing assistant is in civilian terms, and does have his national EMT license), but there is more job security in the military than in a civilian job you know?

But, we'll get through it. We, like you and D, are made of tough, good old American stock (and we have our redneck roots too...which comes in handy from time to time believe it or not). We know our rights and how to use them, and we express our rights to the fullest extent of the law, regardless of the PC crap in the world. It's not as bad in the South like it is where you live, but it is around.

Maybe someday you and D might consider moving down South. Tupelo, MS ain't a bad place to live. Heck, where my parents live ain't too bad either (Nettleton, MS). You and my dad would get along famously.

;)

Oh well, that's my long comment for the day.

Y'all have a great New Year's Eve!

*hugs*
