Be Afraid. Be Very Afraid...
I'd like to begin with coining the phrase from the TV commercial: "What's in YOUR wallet?"
Now, if you're like most people, you've got a pretty good idea what's in there.
(let's hope so, anyway)
You've got some pictures, a little cash (don't we all?), some form of ID (typically, a driver's license), a credit card (or two), maybe even a spare door key to your vehicle (in case you EVER lock the keys IN it, as most all of us have done at one point or another), and last but not least, some type of medical plan card detailing the program you're in with coverage and phone numbers to call.
Sound kinda close?
That could all very well change in the future...
Someone ELSE could know what's in YOUR wallet.
Think about it.
With the constant and forcible governmental intrusion into damn near every facet of our lives, it's little wonder that what we have in our wallets (and pocketbooks for the ladies) will soon be part of the government's "plan" to know and what we all are.
Cripes, when do we all get "bar-coded" across our foreheads and have those microchips implanted?
The late Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis once said:
"The makers of the Constitution conferred the most comprehensive of rights and the right most valued by all civilized men - the right to be let alone."
That sort of nails it down real simply, doesn't it?
I mean if I "choose" not to let my "life" become public knowledge (the public being the government), then that's MY business, right?
I view these growing number of intrusions into MY life as something akin to allowing complete STRANGERS into my house, for the sole purpose of "nosing around" with no particular purpose, other than to find out who *I* am, and what makes me tick.
Sorry, but I value that aspect of my own human nature.
I, like most of you, am a rather complex person.
I have my faults, my opinions, my successes, my failures, and I have my moods. That's what being a real human being is all about.
Being "me" is what "I" am all about. Same goes for all of you out there.
Yet, our government feels compelled to "help us" anyway (especially when we don't require ANY help).
Now, when I think of "help", I'm tending to think more along the lines of some assistance predicated upon a dire circumstance.
Like..."I'M DROWNING...HELP ME".
Or..."The house is on FIRE...HELP ME".
Or even something along the lines of... "Would someone HELP ME by removing this overturned car from my chest?"
THOSE are situations that require HELP...usually in some immediate form.
Now I sure as hell don't "need" the government to "help me" when it comes to so many other things in my life, such as:
-What kind of vehicle I drive.
-Which school my kids have to attend.
-What I should eat.
-What my medical plan "should" be.
I'd like to believe that, given the facts and figures, I can attain a reasonably concise and comprehensive conclusion BASED on those items, and therefore be able to make a lot better decision for a lot less money.
But, that's not the way the government sees things...oh, no.
They'd much rather finds methods to render YOUR choices extremely FINITE, and your decisions meaningless.
Granted, there is a part of the populace that cannot make good choices and/or informed decisions (the prisons are full of them), and there is another part of the populace that is incapable of making decisions for themselves (due to physical or mental limitations), but it makes no sense whatsoever that the government would want to classify the REST of us with those I just mentioned (even if at times, we seem up to our armpits in idiots, morons, and imbeciles).
I feel the government is being WAY too presumptuous when it comes to MY "welfare".
The government doesn't really spend ALL THAT MUCH TIME WITH ME...I (usually) DO.
So that would make ME the MOST qualified person when it comes to MY welfare, wouldn't it?
(You probably figured out by now that I did watch the Presidential News conference last evening)
Now, if the "government" wants to spend a little time getting to know me, I could accommodate them, providing they're stopping by to HELP ME with something a lot more IMPORTANT (to me, anyway)...possibly around the house, like say...remodeling my bathroom, or repairing my front steps, or tacking a new roof on the house...that kinda stuff. Hell, I"ll even provide some burgers and dogs for lunch.
And why stop there?
Get me some government people with mechanic's expertise, and I'll let them get to "know me" by allowing them to fix the A/C and the seatbelts on the old Firebird...LOL!
Now that seems fair enough, right?
THAT is how you get people to "know you"...(and you, them).
You work WITH THEM...understand their work ethics, find out if they're trustworthy, and do a good job.
You don't just let some strangers in your house to peruse your personal life, at their leisure JUST SO they can have you (and your life) in several hundred databases for THEIR amusement.
Sorry, that dog just ain't gonna hunt for me.
But our government keeps "insisting" we NEED their help, and with all these "programs" designed to assist us, they are eroding what civil liberties we have spent generations building and cherishing.
Our current welfare system is a case in point.
Originally designed as a stop-gap measure to help people UNTIL they found financial stability and got back to work (usually after the unemployment ran out, if they were fortunate enough to even get that), it has become the haven for multi-generational "families" with no desire to even attempt to look for meaningful employment anywhere. It's a perverse bastion for the lazy masses that want nothing more than to be coddled my someone else. They will not lift a finger to even take care of themselves (in a normal, responsible manner), so they've forsaken that right to the government, who gladly steps in and takes care of them (at the taxpayers' expense).
Somehow, I'm not seeing anything regarding EQUALITY in that mix...are you?
What I AM seeing is a bastard form of SUPERIORITY instead.
Now the government wants to do likewise with HEALTH CARE...
Can we stand the strain?
I'm a firm believer that those of us who still think with REASON, LOGIC and a smattering of COMMON SENSE can rule the day, are being assaulted by people with NO IDEA what they're doing, but think what they're doing is right for ALL.
I see the forest...I see the trees.
I also ask that which Justice Brandeis once said was MY right...
LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE...period.
Let ME make MY OWN choices.
Let ME fail, and LEARN from it.
Let ME succeed, and PROSPER from it.
YOU (the government) worry about this COUNTRY...let ME worry about ME, kapeesh?
I don't think that's asking all that much...from ANY part of our government, national OR local.
And neither should you.
Stay safe out there, America.
