There was just no one like him.
And there never will be again (sadly).
He was one of my FIRST heroes, aside from my DAD, of course, who always was, and always will be my #1 hero.
And in some ways, I sometimes wished that Dad had a white horse, and carried silver bullets.
Instead, Dad had a black Rambler American and carried the family paycheck.
But, to this day, I STILL like the Lone Ranger, even though my bubble burst a bit when Jay Silverheels and Clayton Moore passed on to that vast prairie in the sky.
A dear friend of mine, who lives in Delaware now, even sent me a 2 DVD set of those old shows...and you know what? They still work for me. How can you NOT like a guy who goes around righting wrongs, and yet NEVER killed one, single bad guy? The Lone Ranger always shot to "wound"...never kill outright...amazing marksmanship. (and maybe a low budget for the studio...couldn't afford fake blood...who knows and who cares?) It's still cool to me.
Interestingly enough, that TV show was the FIRST to feature a NATIVE AMERICAN in a starring role.
Not too shabby for those Cold War 1950s.

Wish I still had those buggers...bet 'ya they'd be worth a LOT of $$$.
Flash-forward about FIFTY years...

--Obey the law.
--Do good whenever possible.
--Help others in need.
Yeah, that kind of stuff....never seems to get old, does it?
Yet in today's world, the "bad guys" don't all wear black hats, or are as blatant about the crimes they might commit, and that makes sorting them all out a bit more confusing.
Still, if there was one thing the Lone ranger did was TEACH BY EXAMPLE (even if he DID wear a mask).
Ditto for Tonto (sans the mask).
Now I might not have those silver bullet-filled Colt .45s these days, but I do have something almost as good.
I have acquired my own .45 pistol.

My newest "toy" is really state of the art when it comes to compact pistols that pack a wallop, too. It carries 10 in the mag plus 1 in the chamber (two less than the Lone Ranger's guns), weighs a mere 23 ounces (empty), and can be concealed with no trouble at all. It fits the hand great, is balanced well, field-strips like a dream, and from what all the reviews I've read (which were too numerous to mention), is a damn fine shooter...in other words, it'spretty damn ACCURATE, and will digest ANY flavor of .45 ACP ammo as well as .45 G.A.P., with NO jams or hangups. That in itself is a testimony to quality of workmanship.
(Not bad for a Brazilian-made firearm)
Plus, I always like hitting what I aim at, no matter the brand of bullets.
I just hope when I get to shoot it (which I wish were ASAP) I can echo those reviews. I think it will work out just fine.

I have NOT read one single NEGATIVE review of this weapon, which has been on the market for a few years.
I HAVE read where guys have let their "significant others" shoot this piece, and even THEY liked it, and wanted to get one for personal protection. Can't top that, can you?
Girls with guns...now THAT is a rush at any local range!
Many people will call it a "mousegun", because of it''s size, but just like me...never judge anything OR anyone on SIZE alone. Hell, I'm only 5'7", but you learn things in life, that make you feel a bit taller along the way.
(when one is "vertically-challenged", one does whatever one can)
And yesterday, when I purchased that pistol, I could have sworn I felt at least several inches TALLER when I left that gun shop.
It is one hell of an equalizer, and in today's world, you need ALL the help you can afford. There are evil people out there, trust me.
I am kind of glad I didn't embrace the '50s TV show SKY KING as readily as I did the LONE RANGER...I can't imagine HOW the hell I would ever afford to buy an AIRPLANE (or explain it to the missus)...!
(Yeah, he was a cowboy that FLEW a plane..."Out of the blue of the Western skies").
Now, I only wish I had a "faithful Indian companion" to complete everything...LOL.
Good allies are SO hard to come by these days, especially in MY neighborhood!
But, I now have my very own ".45", and I think somewhere that Dad as well as the Lone Ranger & Tonto are smiling in approval.
OK, so I might not BE anything close to an incarnation OF the Lone Ranger, but there is not one damn thing wrong with espousing the values he taught to every one of us wide-eyed kids way back in the fifties.
I do subscribe to the fact that I AM one of the "good guys", and that's something I won't retreat from one bit.
Some might think that a bit on the "patriotic" side...I really don't, but I appreciate those who feel that way.
The REAL patriots are those fighting for freedom overseas, or here on our streets.

If that's the definition of a patriot, then I plead guilty.
And in case any of you are curious...NO, I don't plan to paint my BLACK Firebird WHITE...OR call it "Silver" in the future.
Now...about that concealed-carry permit....mmmmm.
Stay safe out there, America.

Congrats on the new .45! Taurus has made leaps and bounds with their product line over the last couple of years. A lot of people are still skeptical but those doubts are met head on by Taurus. Usually the only doubters are those who have never actually shot a Taurus pistol (of any kind).
I'm eagerly awaiting a range report :)
Reese:
How's that old saying go?
"It's like falling in love all over again"
Yeah, that's the one...LOL!
This is a "3rd gen" pistol, so ANY issues with polymer frame cracks have been resolved long ago.
I've always like the Taurus revolvers from little on up, but I have to admit they knocked one "out of the park" with this honey.
I could not find anyone who was NOT pleased with this line of autoloaders.
Can't WAIT to break it in...
Thanks for stopping by.
Okay, you just brought back childhood memories for me. Not having cable I grew up on reruns, which included The Lone Ranger, Zorro, and Superman.
And yes, I had cap guns too, first with the roll caps, then latter the little plastic ones.
As a child I wanted to ride with the Lone Ranger and Tonto. Even more then I wanted a date with Mr. Spock.
This is probably yet another reason why I don't fit in with most people my age.
Jami:
AH, yes...there are SO many good memories...
-Zorro - watched it.
-Superman - loved it.
And then we also had:
-Lassie
-Mickey Mouse Club (the original one with Annette)
Howdy Doody
And so many westerns like:
-The Cisco kid
-Bat Masterson
-Wyatt Earp
-Have Gun Will Travel
Police shows like Highway Patrol, action shows like Whirlybirds and Ripcord...
When you weigh THOSE shows with the relative "tripe" kids have to choose from TODAY...it's enough to make you somewhat regret that WE had such a great childhood.
Thanks for commenting, and keep those vocal chords limber!
:)
Bob (that's my dad's name, BTW) - Oh I had a lot of those too. Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, I Love Lucy, Dragnet, Star Trek, Batman, The Monkees, Gilligan's Island, Brady Bunch, I Dream Of Jeanie, Bewitched, and of course Star Trek - so many things like that during my formative years.
I remember when I worked after school as a preschool and a parent was saying how he would never let his kids watch The A-Team because "It'll make my kids violent." I turned to him and said "I watched The A-Team growing up and I don't go around shooting people because my parents took time to parent me and teach me that shooting people isn't okay." Shut him up quickly to be told parenting tips by a 16 year old.
Jami:
Since your dad's name is BOob...I now feel like I'm in very good company!
(...but shooting at bad guys to make their jeep roll over is OK...ONLY as long as someone HIRED you & your 3 buddies to help them out of a jam cause BY those bad guys...AND you own a black van with a red stripe...LOL)
:)
Bob, does the Taurus have a safety lock?
i dream of jeanie (i once went to the i dream of jeanie lane in cocoa beach fl), brady bunch, mr greenjeans, mickey mouse both of them, wonderwoman, gilligans island, batman and robin, green acres, omgosh soo many more.
but that weapon looks sweeeet. just slap the clip in and fire. nice. impressive.
Jami:
damn typo demon...I meant BOB...(sheesh)
:)
Phil:
Yes, aside from the manual safety at the left rear of the slide, it has a "non-loaded" striker (most other autos that are DA (double-action) have a preload on the striker.
It also has a "lock out" feature on the right side of the slide (accessable with allen key provided) which renders the pistol INERT and non-functioning...none of that trigger guard lock BS to worry about.
It's a sweet little "mousegun"...that packs a helluva punch.
Taurus also has the Model 745 - the only difference from MY pistol is that I have the dbl-stack mag (10+1), and the 745 has single stack (7+1).
Incredibly light, too.
Can't wait to go shooting!
(ammo does cost a bit more than a 9mm...and is a little more hard to find right now)
Thanks for stopping by.
Indy:
Geez, there are SO many shows from growing up that were really good, even if the critics didn't like them.
We DID, and that's all that COUNTS...LOL!
I took a Universal Studio tour way back in the early 1990s, and we got to see some of the "neighborhoods" used in certain old TV shows (Leave it to Beaver for example)...that was a fantastic rise, and I recommend it to ANYONE who gets the chance to go to L.A. (after the fires die down).
I have a book that has ALL the TV shows from like 1949-1985 (yeah, I need an UPDATED edition), and that is ALWAYS fun to pick up and read for no particular reason.
Luckily, many of the shows have been put out on DVDs...so we CAN "relive those days of yesteryear".
God knows there's not THAT much worth watching TODAY...LOL
Thanks for stopping by.
I hope you're happy. Now I am feeling my age remembering all those great old shows :|
About that new lil "toy" you bought.... I want one :D
EL:
It's kinda good to feel one's age when recalling such great times...and we ALL had them, whether it was in front of the TV or not.
Now...tell my BODY to stop aching, 'K?
As to my (other) "honey"...the PT Millennium series comes in ALL "flavors" from a .22 version up to the .45.
The .45 has TWO models:
PT 145 - 10+1 rds.
PT 745 - 7+1 rds.
Weight's about the same...LIGHT!
Most models can be had for a bit over $300 and come with a LIFETIME warrantee.
Here's the Taurus website, in case ANY of you feel like "drooling".
http://taurususa.com/
And there's not one thing wrong with a woman wanting a gun now and then (even if it doesn't match ALL those shoes and handbags)...LOL!
Have a great weekend.
BTW...here is a link to a 2002 article (review) of the pistol I just bought...in case anyone wants a more professional take on the Taurus PT145:

Enjoy.
