Humpday Happenings...
Well, the new mailbox works like a dream...as if it would do otherwise.
Now, let's see HOW LONG it takes before someone else wants to "play" with it, or destroy it.
And speaking of destroying...
** Fort Wayne has had it's 18th homicide (yep, another shooting) on the SOUTHEAST side (yep, my part of town), just for those of you keeping score in the "dead pool" at work.
Here's the link to the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20091014/LOCAL07/310149958
Now, you have to remember that this took place within a few blocks of our house (surprise, surprise), and we currently have no suspects, no motive, and conflicting stories from witnesses (to protect the guilty, no doubt).
It makes me wonder why so many young black men (Like Jeremy Lamont Trigg, 27, seen here) have this (apparent) desire to have their lives snuffed out before the age of 30, and WHY they continue to make all those bad life choices that lead up to such a demise.
Must be a "cultural" thing...right, Rev. Latham?
Sorry, but that is one "culture" I want NO part of in ANY way, shape, or form.
Screw the diversity, screw embracing another culture, and screw being politically-correct...I'll get MY culture the old-fashioned way...from a container of YOGURT!
And speaking of shooting...
** This little tidbit managed to catch my eye. The article is about the number of GUN PERMITS issued to Indianans (I just don't care for the word HOOSIER...makes me want to chuckle...or buy some TIRES) and that the ISP (state police) have let SOME folks slip between the system's cracks (oopsie).
Here's the link to the brief, but interesting story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20091014/EDIT07/310149978
I have to admit that plunking down $125 for a LIFETIME permit is a bit "much" (especially at my age of 57...not all that much "life" left, as it were, unless I live to 93), but like the story says, it only gives police ONE chance to "get it right", meaning screening for potential violence or arrests. When the system had a FOUR-YEAR permit, police could always review before renewal, and thereby catch some people that did some "no-nos" within that last 4 year period. And it was cheaper ($75).
Of course, you have to consider this:
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111-45&tab=summary
This is called the Blair Holt Act of 2009, and basically wants to have EVERY gun "owner" LICENSED (not just the firearm).
This is not to be confused with Internet rumors about an IRS (SB 2099) "amendment" (to a 1986 law) that would force you to get fingerprinted and taxed $50 PER GUN that you must claim on your form. This is a myth and/or a hoax (for now anyway).
But the Blair-Holt Act is VALID...and should be watched VERY carefully, if you are a gun enthusiast.
Keep a vigilant eye and ear open on this one...this will be clandestine in execution, and who can say what other "bill" it might be attached to (like some 1000 page health care bill that no one will manage to read...again).
** Lastly, I hear the federal government wants ANOTHER "stimulus" bill...
(ahem)
Did we NOT LEARN ANYTHING from the FIRST one, you morons?
How freaking STUPID can you politicians GET, hmm?
I mean everyone is entitled to do something DUMB once in a while, but MAN, you people are really ABUSING THE PRIVILEGE!
And you're also really pissing me the hell off, along with quite a few million OTHER folks.
The UP side to our first stimulus plan, was that CHINA saw auto sales jump SEVENTY-EIGHT PERCENT!
(take THAT, you auto company bailout boondoggles)
The good news is that I can definitely see Obama (mmm, mmm, mmm) lasting ONE term...the BAD news is it will take at last TWO TERMS for the NEXT President to UNTANGLE this yarn ball of financial inconsistencies, mismanagement, and overall crappy handling of THIS nation's economy.
Add to that the 2010 elections, which SHOULD change the face of Congress (and perhaps the Senate) to more PROPERLY reflect the wishes of THE PEOPLE.
So Barry's last 2 years in office shouldn't be a bed of roses...
(he might have to really WORK, especially when his cronies start dropping from the ranks of the regime)
I've always said that ANY generation that screws something up will take at least TWO generations to undue it.
Let's hope we're not as procrastinating as that, okay?
We're no longer at the "crossroads" for this nation...we're more like at one of those "five points" in the road.
And traffic is coming at us from ALL directions...AT ONCE.
We need to chart the proper path again for this nation, and what's going on currently in Washington, D.C. just ain't cutting it, folks!
It makes you wonder when the STABILITY of OUR CURRENCY is rated THIRTY-EIGHTH on the whole planet...38TH!!!
Cripes, Canada and Mexico have MORE STABLE currency than WE have...
(thanks Obama - mmm, mmm, mmm).
But...WE can turn this back around.
WE...are the ones that can make this happen.
WE...are the people that CAN secure a future for our children where we're not apologizing to them because our NATION failed them.
It is OUR TIME...we HAVE to rein back government to it's proper place...running this NATION (and NOT into the ground), instead of every facet of our lives.
To the Feds: Get OUT of our houses, our classrooms, our pockets, and our brains, and get BACK behind your damn desks, where you BELONG.
Stop trying to "help" me and everyone else...you people are doing more HARM than GOOD.
Stop trying to run MY life, and the lives of my fellow AMERICANS.
ALL of us are made of sterner stuff, and it's time YOU (the government) realized it.
Each one of us must be allowed to succeed (or fail) based on OUR OWN merits, abilities and opportunities, and NOT by "how much money" YOU want to give us (and at what price that money will cost our future).
We can't be bought with our childrens' future.
Politicians - DO YOUR JOBS as the civil SERVANTS you are per our Constitution...and allow every one of US...to DO OURS.
THAT is what MADE this nation...and THAT is what will revive and sustain it.
Stay safe out there, America.

It always strikes me as funny when any group says they want equal rights, but then when one of their group does bad they blame it on their "culture" or what have you. You can't have it both ways. And as far as I see it, separate races only belong in Star Trek. God only made one race, the human race, here on earth. (Though I wouldn't be surprised if He also made some other races on other planets.) Can't they just accept that a member of their particular group is a flaming moron with no morals?

Honestly, Bob, can you tell me what happened to people accepting responsibility for their stupid mistakes? They're always blaming someone else. Their parents. Another group of people. Even God. Nevermind we have free will. God's not responsible for things like the Holocaust, for instance. (After all, Nazis are atheists same as Communists.) That was 100% human evil.

You know what? I'm fat. And our world worships skinny women. So maybe I could commit a crime and then blame it on the bigotry against fat women.

As for your mailbox - this is why I want one of those brick ones. The kind that look like they could double as a small brick barbecue. Wanted one ever since I saw one of the kids in my neighborhood proudly come home with a mailbox he had ripped out of the ground from someone else's house.

You, just like me will "never understand the culture"...at least that's what the pundits say.
I say bullsh*t to that (pardon my "French")!

Trouble with THAT particular line of reasoning is that ANY culture MUST be bound (as you have said) by certain universal PRINCIPLES and beliefs (that come from God, in whatever religion you subscribe to).

When these groups can MAKE THE CONSCIOUS DECISION to "man-up" and become fully ACCOUNTABLE for WHO they are and WHAT they do, AND are willing to accept consequences for their actions IN FULL...THEN, maybe...we can get back on the path to TRUE EQUALITY.
Not before.

Interesting thing about our "mailboxes"...even though YOU buy one, it is considered FEDERAL PROPERTY (of the USPS), and that carries a fine of up to $250,000 and some nice JAIL TIME for messing with those receptacles.

(must be a "cultural" thing...LOL)

Thanks for stopping by.
Keep on singing!

THAT culture is driving me crazy at the moment. I am driving the church bus to a low-income housing section..and my voice is just back NOW from last Wednesday night when I pulled the van over and gave those kids a piece of my mind. They don't listen, and are rude. And you can't knock their little rear ends with a paddle (athough more than a few need it). Makes you wonder about the parents.

As I'm SO fond of saying...
"WHAT PARENTS"?

Seems we have KIDS raising KIDS...no one bothers to GROW THE HELL UP with these folks!

My wife sees it DAILY in school...and it (sadly) goes across ALL "racial" divides anymore.

Glad you got your voice back (a spoonful of a mixture of honey & lemon juice works WONDERS, btw)

But, we're just "racist, mobster radicals"...(read AMERICANS - who know the REAL truth and are willing to SPEAK it)...heh, heh, heh.

Thanks for stopping by.

Another great post, as always. You have such a talent for enticing the most interesting conversations with people, and it's refreshing to actually know someone out there who I can have a great intellectual conversation with who I don't feel I have to walk on egg shells, if that makes sense! My brain is pretty fried today, been studying for our health promotions final exam, which is on Monday. EEKS! They push a lot of that cultural diversity stuff on us nursing students. One thing they drill into us is "NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING." But, as you have said in not so many words, it's a pretty safe bet you can "generalize" certain cultures with certain actions! *wink wink* hehe. Green Bay had their first murder of the year, some young white man got stabbed in the chest a few oh, dozen times or so, in a *cough* slum neighborhood. Actually, "Public Housing" I think is the "proper" name for it!

Oh, and you are 57? I've heard that men get better as they age! Besides, if you would move into a neighborhood like where I live, you would have plenty of life ahead of you! I wonder what your odds are in your neighborhood that you'd die from a shooting vs old age? But you know what they say, "curiosity killed the cat!" Another thing I was wondering, is there an age cap to where you can't carry a weapon? Like say, if you did live to be 93, would you still be able to even carry a weapon at that ripe old age? Or is it like driving, as long as you don't kill anyone or have an accident, you can do it until you physically or mentally can't? lol.

Good to know the stimulus package benefited someone! Too bad it had to be China... *pouts angrily* Have you ever thought about going into the business of inspirational speaking? You have quite a talent. Usually I read blogs as a mechanism of coping, and I always read yours last because you have this pattern...you start out the beginning of your blog with emotion-provoking text, things that can get a person riled up, but towards the end, you can always say something positive and inspirational, and it cheers me up! Just wanted to say thanks! :D

P.S. About your ending comments, the future of our children...do you think there'll ever come a time in our country's future where we will say "this is such a terrible world that we aren't going to continue subjecting future generations to it" and eventually the birth rates will begin decreasing? I hope that makes sense! It was actually a question we were asked in psychology a couple years ago, and the topic came up again not long ago in my Advanced Anatomy and Physiology class, when we were talking about the anatomical and physiological reason we are here on earth-to reproduce...to preserve our species. Do you think our philosophy can reason over our instincts? Mind over matter? :D Take care my friend, and as Spock would say, "Live Long and Prosper!"

GE:
Thanks for the props...(a "WOW" moment for me).
Lemme see if I can comment...

1- seems nursing is like policing or combat (or my neighborhood)...NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING (sounds right to me)

2- Green Bay JUST had it's 1st murder in '09? Kudos to that city!!!

3- Be honest with 'ya...IF I plan to die of old age, then capping some perps and resting my buttocks in jail "for lfe" could be an otherwise uptapped option...LOL.

4- Don't know of any "age" restriction for CCPs, and the "cold dead hands" thing applies.

5- We might not get "better" as we age...just CRAFTIER and with a LOT more GUILE (and a spit of wisdom)...LOL

6- I HAVE thought about doing the speaking "gig", but who wants to hire me???
ALso been told I have a "radio voice"...and I bet that person STILL wants it BACK.
There are still many folks out there that can't handle TRUTH all that well.
(guess that "pulpit time" I spent ages ago wasn't wasted...nice to know that)

7- I think people tend to be cyclical creatures (much the way our planet is), and that after WW2 we DID see a rash of births (yours truly among them), normal people will NOT just "do the nasty" and have kids for the sake of it.
They will bide their time, and THEN have a child when finances and society can support them (and I don't mean welfare support, but nurturing parents and mentors).
The "philosophy" of it is much more complex than any ONE particular belief such as Freud, Kant, Hegel or Hobbes (to name a very few).

But that's just *MY* opinion...and subject to change.

You are a unique person in that you're thinking WAY past a lot of your contemporaries...and that's a good thing.
Positive change results in those bold enough to look "beyond" the here and now, and view both past AND future to apply to the present.

Keep doing what you're doing...you WILL make a difference.

And thanks so much for stopping over.
