Friday Follies...
And a rather personal Milestone (and not a millstone) has been reached, and considering it follows RIGHT on the heels of Earth day makes it all the more "sweet".
Today you are reading the ONE THOUSANDTH POST of this here blog.
(cripes, that guy's had a lot to say)
Yeah...who knew?
(click on the picture here to "read the headlines")
I've been going over exactly WHAT to blog about, and for the life of me, after sifting through the archives of "Bob's Institute of Greater Goals In Enlightenment" (...hell of an acronym - BIGGIE...ROFL), I find I've way too much crap I need to toss the hell out...LOL. (But the COMIC BOOKS and Garfield collector plates and plushies stay...AND the action figures...AND the vintage toys...AND the books...AND my guns)
See what I mean?
But we're still here...and it's by the grace of GOD alone.
Those of you who regularly follow my rants, raves, and reviews on life (and ALL of it's marvelous vicissitudes) have to come to know that I'm one of those "stand-up" kinda people. What you see (and hear) is what you're gonna get...period.
Hard to believe I was so damn introverted as a child...
I have my late dramatics teacher (Thomas Quinlan - Abraham Lincoln High School - room 144) to thank for pulling me out of my shell.
I suppose he never knew what "kind" of Genie he was letting out of that bottle.
But I'd like to think he's smiling down on me.
He was a great mentor, and a beautiful person.
He's partly responsible for who I am today.
I also have to credit Mom & Dad for allowing me to "find myself", and never pushing me into things "they" wanted me to do. I think that is a hallmark of good parents, and there's not a day goes by that I don't miss them dearly.
I'd give anything to have an afternoon to catch up on things, and let them know that all they taught me hasn't gone to waste.
And I have to say that my (small) circle of friends from my "past lives" had a significant impact on who I am.
Luckily, one of those friends is still around in DE..and doing well. Another is in Buena Park, CA, and is fine (considering the state is broke, and they have earthquakes).
One dear friend that helped me move (twice), and was the YANG to my YIN passed on back in 2005, and he was always a "straight-shooter" when it came to what HE said...must have rubbed off onto me as well.
He was one of a kind (as most all CLOSE friends are throughout life), and sadly, I may never see his kind again in MY life.
All of these people, along with various mentors are "responsible" for...."me".
And I am therefore responsible for myself...I like the way that works.
Like I said...when it comes to who I have grown into...what you see is exactly what you get.
I say what I feel, mean what I say, and never hesitate to find out the facts behind all of it.
An informed mind (whether it's yours or someone else's) will never steer you wrong...remember that.
I have to (as always) thank a man (who I have yet to meet) named TIM (and he knows who he is) for casually mentioning at another blog, that "you should get your own blog". Now, maybe he was just wanting me to "be somewhere else"...but I don't think so...LOL
(least I hope not)
But I took his advice, and after 1000 posts, I figure HE was right...and I must be DOING something right, because you "friends of the electronic ether" have seen fit to grace ME with YOUR presence.
I don't plan to get all mushy here, but let's just say that if it were not for YOU, my readers (and visitors), Lord knows how this would have panned out.
I might have said "to hell with it", and walked away.
This blog is FAR from being one of "those" blogs...the successful ones...the ones that the world beats a path to every day. I'm not the DRUDGE, nor BREITBART, but in some, minuscule and microcosmic manner, I believe what is represented here is more of the "John & Jane Everyperson". And the last time I checked, WE have as much say as those fortunate enough to become "successful".
My dad was one who measured success NOT by what he possessed, but rather by what he KNEW.
I would maintain that Dad was a success (to me) by WHO HE WAS.
Ditto for my Mom.
They didn't raise a Rhodes Scholar, or another Bill Gates, or even a Stephen Spielberg, but then again...they did NOT raise a FOOL.
And if there is ONE THING you will not find HERE...it's foolish rhetoric.
I'm just one of those guys that wants to honestly believe that 2+2=4...and not anything else.
And whenever something (or someone) in life wants to say otherwise, I WILL question it.
When something makes NO sense, what else can normal people DO, but to dig around for the facts.
Welcome to my blog.
Thank you for "taking the RED pill".
Whenever I post, it will be something that "most likely" made me go "huh?"
By now, you know them as "WTF? moments"...LOL.
And, although I often talk about "the good old days", and "the way things used to be", and how we've deviated so much from all that, we ARE still in the HERE AND NOW, and we all must learn to live with it, instead of sweep it aside.
Personally, I'd love to return to an era where COMMON SENSE had a lot more "sway", and where a LOT more people knew what was meant by "pulling one's own weight".
But, I digress...
This is not only "my" blog, but it is also YOUR blog.
YOU provide insight to what I meander on about.
YOU voice YOUR opinions, YOUR thoughts, and YOUR stories about how things mentioned here affect YOU.
And I think that's about as good a venue for debate as can be created.
Maybe we don't agree on every single thing, but that's OK.
We get to see one another's POV through such discussion, and thereby learn.
And learning never did anyone any harm.
Can I possibly find enough media "fodder" for ANOTHER 1000 posts?
Given the nature of humanity (as it currently stands), AND my ghettohood "locals".... Bwahahahahahaaaaa.
Yasureyoubetcha!
I don't believe I will be wanting for "material" ANY time soon.
It's like living in a cross between Ripley's Believe it Or Not, the Zoo, and the circus freak show.
(and those are just the GOOD aspects)
Trust me when I say that I WILL remain bold in my writings, and that, in some small way, what you read here will make you say "That's what I was thinking." None of us are ALONE here, even if we all become lonely from time to time.
So...get ready...get set...and be prepared for whatever the fates allow.
We're in life to learn...to become better persons, not sit idly by and be a mere "spectator"...leave that to the next guy, eh?
God willing, I'll be continuing to post things to make you laugh, things to make you a bit angry, and even things to make you THINK.
And if, nothing else...it will be...the TRUTH.
Once again, thank you ALL for your taking a few moments from YOUR day and spending it here.
I can honestly say that I could never hope to find such a wonderful group of souls on this planet, if I went out tomorrow and looked for them. You allow me the ability to continue hoping for better tomorrows.
And I am humbled by that knowledge.
Now...go have yourselves a fantastic weekend, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay safe out there, America.

Dear Bob,
One thousand posts is Indeed a milestone.

I figure it's also at least fifteen hundred bald eagles, all of which I love to look at, regular columns depending on the day. "Bobby G.'s spot" for instance . . .

Congratulations and yeah, hey, Do Not Run out of Stuff to Post. I stop by every day for the skinny on FW and the nation.

If you keep all your collections but start throwing stuff out, remember to keep my soapbox someplace handy in the garage . . . I need that thing.

Congratulations!!!
You two have a great weekend.
As always,
Ann

You never have to worry...I keep that soapbox handy (besides, it holds all my FIRST ISSUES of cmics real well when I turn it upright...LOL)
And I sure will never toss out "the fence"...

We are blessed to have all our lives intertwined in such a remarkable manner.

Here's to another 1000 posts...
Thank you so much for your kind words, your views and your time.

Do have a great weekend.

As I recently learned (from of ALL things, a Doctor Who episode):
"The song never ends."

And if this were to be regarded as some sort of written "tome", then, we but turn another page...to another chapter.

Through the dreams, the prayers, the hopes, and all else that comprise this marvelous journey we call LIFE...part of EACH of us will continue.

Thank YOU for being a fellow sojourner in this trek.

Have yourself a great weekend.

Diane:
OH, yeah...a complete gold-rimmed set of plates (paintings) with COA and matching numbers.
Got 'em back in the rearly 1990s.

Only had 'em out to look at em...ONCE (just once)...LOL.

Btw, I also have the SET of McD's Garfield mugs.
I should do a post about "some" of the stuff I've managed to acquire over the years.
(thanks for the idea)

And thank YOU for becoming one of my electronic neighbors.

Have yourselves a great weekend!

Whew . . . one thousand Posts! That my friend is a whole lot of words. Now you can begin to name your posts, #1001,#1002 ...

I think that you and I had an exchange about your daily posts way back when you were not close to 1,000. So you write them in the early morning and I read them late at night, Monday through Friday. Then you, Leo and God rest on the weekend.

Someone asked me in 2008 in an exchange of posts on somebody's blog, (and that someone may have been you) if I had my own blog. Whatever ... I have to blame somebody, so it might as well be you.

Here's an idea. You should think about getting the wife to fill-in for you wvwry now and again ... you know, introduce the feminine perspective ... then again, maybe not.

Keep the tires between the ditches and Smokey off your britches.

Hey, that's fine if you want to "blame" me for your blog....

I like being a "responsible" person...LOL.
(If anything BAD happens, I'm probably responsible - you know hpw THIS administration works)

I've been TRYING to get "Wifey" to guest-post, but she hasn't even got herself a REAL profile here, but she's WAY too busy over in YoVille...
(rolls eyes)

AT least she's NOT being like those people in the SEC (Security Exchange Commission) and D/Ling ALL that damn PORN (at the taxpayers' expense, mind you)

Thank God for little things, eh?

Thanks for stopping by and being a part of all this.
(I TRIED to warn 'ya...LOL)

Have a great weekend!

I don't remember WHERE (exactly) I saw the ads for those plates, but they were about $20 (and change) PER plate...so I went and got 'em.

You gave me an idea...perhaps I will post a picture of EACH plate in the near future.
Maybe even have a "Bob's Collector's Corner" day a few times per month.

From fertile minds come great ideas.
I love it.
That's what has always made AMERICA great!

And it's been MY pleasure to have you as a commenter.
Nicer than a chat room...I'm honored.
We can do nice...nice is good.

Thank you for being a follower of this blog. It is much appreciated.

Do have a great weekend.

Again, I am honored by your thoughtfulness and consideration.

Not too bad for someone just "callin' 'em as I see 'em", eh?

Thanks...
