Monday Musings...
I trust all you Moms out there had a great day yesterday.
Now, unfortunately, it's "back to business"....LOL.
My weekend started out fine enough...UNTIL I found out I caught a virus on the computer (again).
If ANY of you see something that looks like ANTISPYWARE SOFT suddenly "pop-up" on your screen...you got it.
This is not a valid WINDOWS function alert, but a scam.
Best way to remedy it, is to use MALWAREBYTES (thanks, Dan) AFTER rebooting into SAFE mode.
Seems to have solved this problem nicely.
But wait, kids, there's MORE...
The wind and rain took a toll on our property-line fence alongside the patio, and I had a feeling something was wrong, when I noticed our previously LOCKED gate was WIDE OPEN.
The fence (seen right in picture - when it was upright) was leaning about 30 degrees AWAY from our property, so the posts are rotting away. Fortunately, I caught a lull in the storms and went out and took some planking and "shored up" the fence for the time being.
And the gate once again closes (with some added help from a rubber bungee cord).
So, we'll be shopping around for someone to replace that fence, as all the neighbors I USED to have living nearby to assist with projects like this...have MOVED AWAY from here. And I'm getting a bit old for things like this.
The GOOD news to this weekend (you mean you actually FOUND some, Bob?) was that I got the lawns mowed!
Yes, Virginia...the lawns are now cleanly clipped, awaiting the first piece of ghettohood trash to be tossed upon them. (the suspense is almost underwhelming...LOL)
Yessir...I can see us spending close to the CURRENT assessed value of this house (that used to be assessed around $76K, but is now "worth" $21K) JUST to keep it looking like it IS worth that $21K the county says it is.
Ah...the wonderfulness of having human refuse as neighbors in the ghettohood.
I'll tell 'ya one thing...if you EVER want to pay LOWER property taxes, get a nice house in a part of a city that is transitioning into a slum, and then sit back and count the MONEY you'll save. You'll be amazed at how FAST the property devalues itself, thanks to the whole entitlement mentality of lazy-ass people with no idea what it means to be responsible.
Then, you can take ALL the money you SAVED...and turn it over into home improvements like bars for your windows and doors (which I thought were for PRISONS and not for residential neighborhoods), security systems, extra locks, and of course, firearms and ammo to "dissuade" those who would seek to take from you what is rightfully yours.
Sure, it's a trade-off, but it would make one HELLUVA term paper for a sociology major, don'cha think?
Now...yesterday WAS Mother's Day, but that didn't stop those morons in OUR city from celebrating in their own inimitable manner.
Homicide #13 occurs somewhere OTHER than the SE side of town - amazing!
(( SHOOTING NEAR BAR LEAVES ONE DEAD
The fatal shooting of a man outside a north-side retail center early Sunday has been ruled a homicide, according to officials from the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
Fort Wayne police found a man wounded and lying in the southwest corner of the parking lot of Coliseum Plaza in the 4700 block of Parnell Avenue, shortly after gunfire rang out about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, according to officer Raquel Foster, a police spokeswoman.
The man died at the scene, she said.
An autopsy performed Sunday identified him as Hector Tenorio, 20, and indicated he was shot to death. The coroner’s office had not yet confirmed Tenorio’s address Sunday, but police believe Tenorio is from Geneva.
Tenorio’s death is the 13th homicide in Allen County this year. All but one of those deaths has occurred in the city.
Police had initially been called just before 1 a.m. Sunday to the same parking lot after receiving a 911 hang-up call.
Police called that same number and the person who responded told dispatchers that there were multiple fights taking place just outside of Ft. Wayne Hip-Hop Dance, located in the same plaza.
Foster said police believe the crowd had just left the dance studio, as it was closing for the night."The lot was filled with people," she said. "One officer reported (an estimate of) several hundred people."
After police broke up the fights, officers stayed in the parking lot for another 30 minutes to help clear people out of the studio and to help with traffic and crowd control, Foster said.
"There were a lot of people staying on the lot … in their cars," Foster said.
That’s when gunfire was heard.
Officers ran to the opposite corner of the lot and found Tenorio. Meanwhile, many of the people who had continued to linger in the lot fled, Foster said. Police are interviewing witnesses but do not have any suspects in connection with the shooting.
Foster said Sunday it was unclear whether Tenorio was involved in any of the fights outside the dance studio.
It was also unclear whether the gunfire was intended to hit anyone, or whether Tenorio was an intended victim.
Police believe Tenorio had been inside Rick O’Shay’s Irish Pub, located within the same plaza, just before he was shot.
Sunday, the lot outside of the dance studio, 4722 Parnell Ave., was littered with broken bottles, a woman’s heeled shoe and various pieces of clothing. The studio was not open.
Foster said it was unclear what was going on at the studio just before the call for help.
The studio opened in 2006, and at that time, offered classes in breaking, popping and locking as well as hip-hop choreography. The studio has also been a venue for monthly events – including hip-hop art openings and MC battles.

And then there is THIS story, too.
(( TWO SHOT OUTSIDE PIERE'S
Myra McCain
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Police said two men were shot outside Piere's Entertainment Center Sunday morning as they stood in the south parking lot outside the All-Star/Club V door. One was shot in the leg and fingers, another in the right bicep area.
According to a Fort Wayne Police Department report, while an officer was at the Parkview ER on another incident, he learned two men were brought into the ER who had been shot while outside Piere's.
The first victim said he was standing outside his vehicle in the parking lot at Piere's when he heard shots and realized he had been shot in the right bicep area. He then got into his vehicle and drove himself to Parkview.
He told police he did not see or hear where the shots came from.
The other victim was shot in the mid-thigh on the left leg and in the left index and second fingers. His leg turned out to be broken where the wound was as well.
Police were able to speak with the woman who brought the second victim to the hospital, who said she came out of the club and heard shots. She said other than that, she did not see anything. She had been looking for her cousin at the time the shots were fired.
Fort Wayne Police Department Public Information Officer, Raquel Foster said there is no reason to believe this incident and the shooting at Rick O'Shay's are in any way related at this time.
))
Makes you wonder WHY these people weren't celebrating MOTHER'S DAY with their families INSTEAD of being idiots (and in ONE case...a DEAD idiot).
Stupid always IS...as stupid always DOES, I suppose.
Lastly, THIS week marks NATIONAL POLICE WEEK.
Here's the official site link, marking the events:
http://www.nationalpoliceweek.com/
If you're in the D.C. area, drop on by. I know I wish I lived close enough to attend some of the events.
But, if you're NOT able to go, then, by all means, check your LOCAL sources for anything pertinent to this week. I'm sure there will be some memorials to attend.
What you should be doing, regardless is acknowledging what these LEOs do every damn day to keep everyone as safe as possible.
If you see an officer in your travels, take a moment to THANK them for what they do, and that you truly appreciate their service and sacrifice.
It'll sure make THEIR day, and you'll come away a better person for doing so.
Besides, isn't it just the right thing to do?
So, have yourselves a great week, be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay safe out there, America.

Soory to hear about your fence--we had a windy few days as well.

Your neighbors are quite a group. There is a lady who lives on our street who decided to have a fence constructed and did not want to bother with little things like propery lines. As a result, she enclosed 5 feet of her next door neighbor's yard and included inside her on yard (she built her fence up to his fence instead of allowing several feet of easement as is required by local law).

Unfortunately, the old couple living there does not have the heart to tell her she messed up. I would not have been so gracious and would have had her tear the fence down and redo it.

The "shoring up" if holding for the time being, but I can rock that fence back and forth...LOL.
ANd although we have a small parecl of land, I DO know where the property lines are (as well as the city easements)

I recommend every property owner check out the blueprints for their boundaries, to make sure you don't plant something that the city can cut down or dig up at a later date, when they get a hankering to do so.

Cities get like that sometimes.

ANd my current batch of neighbors are the stuff that "blaxploitation" movies are made about...not necessarily a GOOD thing, but damn funny at times, when they're not getting in your face for "other-raced" and STILL in THEIR (recently claimed)chettohood.
(there's Big Momma's house now...LOL)

Thanks for stopping on by.

We'll keep 'ya updated on my "fencing" issue (where IS my Épée ?)...ROFL!

Dear Bob,
That is a lot of freaking shooting for one Mother's Day.

Oh, the fence. I am sorry to hear about that. Hopefully you will find a contractor who is fast and does sturdy work.

Where I live now, nearly every first floor and basement have the grilles. It is a shame. I remember when they seemed like a novelty. Now they are part of the asset.

Wednesday my Police Series kicks off. It's already done, and I hope I can attend some of the events. If I do, I will take some respectful pictures and post them.

Have as good a week as possible!

We'll get the efbnce fixed straight away (and hopefully NOT for some insane price)
I am reluctant to get those bars for our house...
I'd sooner get LEXAN for the windows and watch any bricks or rocks tossed BOUNCE BACK into the perp's face...LOL!
Bars are for FELONS (or should be, anyway).

Hopefully, you'll get some really good pictures to post.

Thanks for stopping by.
Have a great week.

"Anon":
MAY-BE if more of these "so-called" young MEN (and I use the term MEN loosely - more like MAN-CHILDREN) would pay MORE attention to being GOOD CITIZENS and staying the hell OUT of harm's way (and less attention to feeding their own carnal "needs"), they wouldn't be the latest addition to the cemetary, would they?

And do forgive me for misspeaking.

A DEAD idiot can NO LONGER BE an idiot, so I stand corrected.
He's just plain DEAD now.
(and the city's latest homicide stat)
Better?

If you can't afford the "admission fee" for some of the less ingratiating parts of life, perhaps it's best to NOT participate in the first damn place...
(and remain alive TO SEE Mom on Mother's Day)
'Ya think?

Be a cold day in HELL when I start handing out respect (gratis) for those that have no respect for themselves for their "choice" of short-lived lifestyles.

You WANT respect?
It's not given out like a free lunch at school, or a welfare check.
It's EARNED.
(remember that, if nothing else)
You play...you pay.
(sooner or later)

Therein lies the lesson.

I would like to chime in on the dead idiot discussion, if I may. Having been married to an idiot I believe I am qualified. I would like to say there are Men and there are Males. Being a Man is something you earn by living a kind and good life. Males are just people who think the world owes them everything. They use violence and threats to get what they want. I could go on and on but I am sure you "get" what I am saying. Another fine blog entry Bobby G. (Sorry bout your fence.)

MSN:
Thank you for clarifying what I said above.

Many times, it take a WOMAN'S perspective to better appreciate the proper attributes of the species.

It tends to be a more objective view of males than mine, which is bias due to gender...lol.
(gotta forgive me for that, 'K?)

And many times, marriage will bring out the "best" in people, not that what WE consider to be THE BEST is always that.
Things tend towards relativism in that regard.

Well said, dear.

Thanks for stopping by.

As Gomer Pyle would say: "Thank you, thank you thank you!" That Malwarebytes program was just what the doctor ordered. Found that stupid fake anti-spyware program pop-up in two places in my registry.

BTW, I didn't have to go to safe mode to get them either.

Gadfly:
Glad you found the download helpful.

I neglected to mention that it can affect various part of the registry, and you might NOT have to reboot into SAFE mode...
I just did it to play it safe, as per the online instructions.

Amazing how onboard software didn't detect this nor warn of it before it got into the system.
Gotta LOVE progress...
(not).

Thanks for stopping by.

i fully agree about cheep property taxes and the future of a neighborhood. lol i've seen it happen 2 times. once in my case and now something that is currently evolving in a friends of mine case and i dont really have the heart to tell her.

and how "shocking" that there would be shootings outside of hip/hop/dance/drinking clubs

lol

Bob G. said...

Indy:
Hey, don't get me wrong...I'm ALL for LOWER taxes (anywhere), but NOT at the expense of a neighborhood, it's taxpaying citizens, and it's QUALITY-OF-LIFE.
That is too high a price to pay...for ANYONE.

Sadly, it's creeping into the suburbs (as I said agaes ago that it would)
Yeah, I thought it was "shocking", too...LOL
(who knew?)
Hip-hop is TOTALLY "harmless" (aside from the thug lifestyle, degradation of women, focus on having THINGS instead of knowing people, and self-effacing mentality)

Thanks for swinging on by.
