A Brand New Month...
And the brand new batch of the same old stuff to go with it...LOL.
Yes, you have to love how some things remain SO much "the same", while other things are changing around us at warp speed.
While all this is going on, here we are, attempting to separate the good from the bad, the new from the old, the "what works" from the "what doesn't", and so on.
*** Here in Fort Wayne, one nice change is the first four A-10s arriving to our ANG base (122nd Fighter Wing aka the Blacksnakes).
I have to chide one news source for saying it was the arrival of "NEW" jets to the area.
Excuse me, but the Fairchild/Republic A-10 "Thunderbolt II" (commonly known as the WARTHOG) is not a "new" plane.
It was built WAAAYYY back in the early 1970s.
The LAST ones to roll off of the assembly line were made in 1984.
Here's the WIKI for all the *411* :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairchild_Republic_A-10_Thunderbolt_II
This is NOT a supersonic aircraft, but rather a close support/ground attack aircraft...period.
And it is a unique plane, in that it was designed AROUND it's main armament - the GAU (pronounced gow)-8 Avenger rotary auto-cannon.
It is a larger plane than the F-16s being phased out at the Fort Wayne "base".
Got to do some walk-arounds in years past, and it IS a purpose-built machine.
If you see one on the battlefield, you'd best NOT be the one receiving it's particular can of "whoop-ass".
(It WILL leave a mark)
It's also a much quieter aircraft than the F-16s, due to the twin turbo FANS powering it.
(and no afterburners)
I'm looking forward to getting some pictures of them as they fly overhead, so stay tuned.
*** In other news...
Is it just ME, or does this SCOTUS nominee, Elena Kagan look vaguely "familiar" ?
I was banging my head trying to wonder WHERE I had seen her before, and then it hit me...
She MUST be related to KEVIN JAMES...!
(separated at birth?)
Or is this a new Kevin James comedy, where he dresses up like Mrs. Doubtfire and tries to get on the Supreme Court?
Have to admit, it WOULD make some movie studio a nice comedic venue for next summer.
I find it kinda creeps me out...how about YOU?
*** Been checking out some "new" shows on cable...
I like that THROUGH THE WORMHOLE w/ Morgan Freeman.
Hell, anything with Morgan Freeman is soothing to the ear.
And I get to learn some stuff about string theory, time travel, relativity, and other cool stuff that I will NEVER get to apply in my life.
I also have been following POLICE WOMEN OF MEMPHIS...reminds me SO much of MY neighborhood, only with a lot less "southern drawl".
(and the police really catch some perps, instead of issuing warnings, like I've seen happen all too often here)
Hey, I know SOME of you guys and gals of the FWPD are making arrests...I listen to the scanner...and I salute YOU.
(keep up the good work)
MALL COPS is another show that's a guilty pleasure of mine, just because it's a job I could NEVER see myself taking.
When it comes to the "stuck on stupid" people in our midst, I have very little tolerance.
But, I have to say these officers at the Mall of America have the patience of a bloody SAINT!
And, of course, there are the 4 HISTORY CHANNELS to choose from..always something good on one of those.
Still, one thing I wish ALL cable (and even satellite) companies would do, is allow us to PICK AND CHOOSE which SPECIFIC channels we want to watch, and then charge us ONLY for THOSE channels...
Think about it...
You have literally HUNDREDS of channels on some systems, and yet HOW MANY do YOU watch in total?
Well, I can only WATCH one at a damn time, anyway, but you get my drift, right?
I don't NEED 27 versions of BET, MTV, or VH1 cluttering up my selections, nor do I want the baseball channel, football channel, golf channel, boxing channel, curling channel, water polo channel or the Jai Alai channel...!
Let US decide what WE want...and then charge us JUST for those...be a lot easier for all concerned, don'cha think?
*** Also been checking into some literary works, thanks to fellow bloggers. Ann Hathaway (link at left) has been doing a series of posts on the Samurai teachings, the HAGAKURE, and I find it instructive, and insightful.
Then again (unlike the rest of my "neighbors"), I don't MIND learning stuff...never did, and never will. I'm NOT "allergic" to knowledge, like these "locals" are.
Anything that makes you a better, more informed person is GOOD, m'kay?
I have this old book of quotes that I got at a discount store AGES ago, and it's one of those books, that no matter HOW MANY times you go through it, you find something NEW...something you didn't see the other 382 times you picked it up.
Kinda like the BIBLE in that regard...
Well, the last few days had me looking into quotes by a William James (American write and philosopher, and NO relation to KEVIN JAMES...LOL), and I then did a "quicky-WiKi" on this man to figure out WHO he was, and WHAT he was all about. Here's the link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_James
Seems he's got some VERY interesting thoughts on life and people...and especailly TRUTH.
If you're the least bit familiar with the term "Pragmatism", then check it out.
He's not as well known (to me, anyway) as Jung...or Kant, or Montaigne, Plato, or even Hegel.
But it IS, if nothing else...intriguing.
*** Lastly, we enter the days prior to the 4th of July...our Independence Day for this nation.
To mark the event, I purchased a very nice 4'x6' nylon American flag...(eBay - under five bucks, too...whatta bargain)
So, even if it RAINS, I can keep THIS flag outside (as recommended). The polyester/cotton blends are not advised to be flown in inclement weather.
Hey, it's just what the National Flag Organization says...
But we'll have more on that around the 4th, fair enough?
So, in the meantime, enjoy the weather, the greenery, the critters and birds, and life in general.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay safe out there, America.

That was funny about Elena Kagan and Kevin James. Who knows. Stranger things have happened.

I hope you have a great holiday weekend.

Thanks for your comment on my blog. I'm glad you enjoyed my post on more of those men I admire their style.

Glad you enjoyed my "discovery"...lol.

And you're welcome regarding STYLE.
I wish more men would learn what style in attire really is.

Today's paper had an article of (of all things) male casual FOOTWEAR (who knew?)

I miss chukka boots...and boat deck white canvas slip ons.
But I still remember that WING TIPS (with a Cuban heel) are...(showin' my age now)

Thanks a lot for swinging on by.
Stay cool out there!

Funny about the "new planes." I guess that was not covered in journalism school.

The Mall security at our mall are very patient as well. The group they have are all retired military.

Journalism School - It ain't what it USED to be (for SO many reasons)...heh, heh, heh.

Tell 'ya...I have a whole NEW respect for those that a lot of people refer to erroneously as "rent-a-cops".

They perfom SO much more at our malls...withOUT a sidearm.
(but they can STILL get the police there faster than you can imagine).

Thanks a lot for stopping on by today.

I've been practicing end runs around Zombies all darn day! So how exciting is it to find my name and Hagakure in your post today.

My dear sir, that is the uplift I needed! It looks like we may be getting somewhere with the zombies too, although Several Chapters Await.

LOL, and thanks for the Lift!

You can thank my PARENTS and TEACHERS for the props...
They ALWAYS told me:

SO there 'ya go, dear!

You earned it.

Have a great day.

Bob, I took a quick study break last night and watched an episode of "Through the Wormhole," using the On Demand feature. It's so well done that it makes learning effortless and entertaining, and Morgan Freeman is an excellent host.

Got another Terrorism paper to finish by tomorrow, so I gotta get crackin'! Another fine post, Sir!

Yo, Sarge...!!!

Damn good to see 'ya , Buddy!
Glad to hear "school" is going well for you.
I knew you'd find Morgan Freeman's show good...we both remember him as "Easy Reader" on PBS as kids...LOL!

We need to go gunshop-hopping...or at least get to a range soon, 'K?

Keep in touch...always a pleasure to hear you're doing OK.

Thanks a lot for coming by.

Stay safe out there, Boss!

well i would love to watch threw the wormhole. sigh.......one day i will have cable again ....lol perhaps when i retire. lol and i love morgan freeman. he is a very fine actor. love his older movies the most. look who's coming to dinner.

and kagan is an interesting one indeed. i think they are pushing her threw becouse they need an undercover gay/bisexual/crossdressing whatever the heck she is on the court to get ideas passed threw that might not happen anyother way. i think she was chosen and chosen well for her spot. i personally would like to see what cases she normally handles as a lawyer. it is very strange she has never been a judge. i mean who's ass did she kiss or poke? (i mean that is low of me to go there, but......something smells wrong). i'm at a point that i just dont care anymore. there is not much that i can do. i do know one thing. there are many conservatives that are not depending on a federal retirement and i will just have to rely on them to protest and try to defend the way american life should be. but, i am very afraid that the cat is out of the bag and we are on the tip. the crust of a new world order. a train that wont be stopped.

Cable is OK...that have a FEW channels I like (the rest they can KEEP and NOT charge us for...LOL)
Got a better chance of seeing GOD later today than THAT happening, hmm?

Kagan has NEVER "sat" on the bench, or tried ANY cases...she musta been chasing ambulances or something.
She was just an ADVISOR and taught at Harvard Law School.
I don't think I'd want here anywhere close to MY but...our yours, right?
LMAO!

Personally, I don't think that I, by myself can do much either, BUT...maybe by putting our THOUGHTS and IDEAS on forums such as THIS...we CAN affect the difference we need...

Maybe someone will READ something we say here, and decide to become the NEXT BEN FRANKLIN...or JOHN ADAMS...
You never know what affect you will have on someone...or WHO that someone might be.
That's part of the mystery of our lives.
If we only KNEW the number of souls we've touched in our lives thusfar...it would probably amaze us.

Thanks so much for taking time to stop by.
