Nice Handbasket We're All Travelling In...
...And if what we read in the papers and hear on the news is ANY barometer of the state of affairs on this planet in general, and our nation in particular, that means Hell can't be too far off.
There always seems to be SOMETHING that rears it's head and makes us all go: "WHAT? Are you frigging KIDDING me?"
I've lost track of the number of times in recent years that I've stated:
"THAT just CAN'T be normal".
Someone once said that "If you can't dazzle them with BRILLIANCE, baffle them with BULLSHIT".
And I have to admit that although on many days we all find ourselves knee-deep in bull patties, I for one, am neither DAZZLED nor BAFFLED.
But I AM asking a LOT of questions...how about YOU?
Not seeing all that much "brilliance" issuing forth from our government these days, but I am seeing a snotload of "baffling" being done.
This is the time to be watching BOTH hands of these people.
They believe we are all morons, and therefore dangle those shiny, noisy keys in front of us to divert our attention from what that OTHER HAND of theirs is doing (which turns out is usually not all that good for the masses in the long term).
Remember the Stretch- Armstrong analogy I made about our government a while back?
We ARE being pulled in SO many directions and all at once (it seems...most days).
We barely get a chance to catch our breath from the last insanity thrust upon us, then WHAM...something else is flying at us at break-neck speed.
If you thought you ONLY worked ONE job...or that you were RETIRED from working, think again.
We ALL have a second job these days, or we're not as "retired" as we thought we were.
We are keeping VERY busy paying attention to what is going on in the world, our nation, our state, our city and on our streets.
Funny thing...we don't really recall WHEN we were "hired" for this position, nor do we remember "volunteering" for anything like this.
And we DO have to be careful whenever we "volunteer", because we might not be taking ONE STEP FORWARD.
Everyone ELSE is busy taking ONE STEP BACKWARD!
And there we are...out in front anyway, right?
Still, it does us good to know that we're keeping a lookout for something...anything that appears "out of place".
So, to all you (unsolicited) "volunteers" out there, know this:
We are ALL in the same boat ...just at different oars, and as the Hortator pounds out the beat to get this "ship of state" moving in a positive direction, the last thing we really want to hear (now) is that the "Emperor" wants to go WATER-SKIING".
Trust me on this on.
But, along our journey, note that we will happen upon such things as these:
*** A sightseeing (converted) DUKW was struck and sunk with two people still missing along the Delaware River.

Here's the link for the story:
http://www.delawareonline.com/article/20100708/NEWS/7080351/Sightseeing-duck-boat-struck-sunk-in-Del-River-35-rescued-2-missing
Now these DUKWs were instrumental in the D-Day invasion, as well as other amphibious Ops during WW2.
Some that survived the scrap-heap were converted in cities such as Branson, MO, San Francisco, Seattle, Atlanta, Newport, RI, and Philly into sightseeing vessels, and they do a relatively good job of a nice, slow river tour.
But, like any truck, they CAN have a mechanical problem, as in this case.
And the Delaware being the Delaware, the current is pretty good and traffic can be pretty heavy, especially if some huge, honking barge is being PUSHED along by a small tugboat with obviously NO ONE watching the water ahead of the barge.
I've seen these in action, and the DUKWs do a remarkable job, but they DO have to be scrupulously maintained.
I'm thinking an investigation into the company that owns the vehicles along with service histories will be in order.
(( Editor's Note: For a BETTER commentary on the entire PUBLIC SAFETY issue along Phlly's waterfront area, please check out the blog FIRST IN - link at left. There is a post today that tells it like it IS. ))
***
And while we're in the "City of Brotherly Love" (which has turned into something looking like Detroit EAST):
In 2008 (white) voters were intimidated by two men of this "new Black Panther" movement.
You've all seen the video, right?
The one black militant calling for the death of ALL crackers...and their babies.
Here's the video of this asshat mouthing off along South St just below downtown Philly:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIrKtoHYPsE
And if you're not quite convinced this fellow (King Samir Shabazz) is NOT a militant extremist, but a nice young man being put down by whitey, here's something else to take a gander at:
http://www.blackplanet.com/KINGSAMIR/
Now, I'm all for free speech, but this is a case of someone yelling FIRE at the theater...plain and simple.
This is clearly a violation of the 1965 voting rights act...BUT there has been NO charges brought against "Mr. Cracker Killa".
The DOJ (and Eric Holder) just made it all go away...how "convenient" (as Church Lady used to whine).
Now, I just wonder WHAT would have happened IF some SKINHEAD extremist outfit showed up at a polling place, and did likewise?
Cripes, we'd STILL be hearing it on the lame-stream media...those EVIL WHITE MEN.
Well, kids...got news for those people...EVIL is an "equal-opportunity employer"...it comes in ALL shapes, sizes, and colors.
Wonder why THEY haven't figured that one out, yet?
I mean, if we ARE going to talk about REAL EQUALITY here...let's punish ALL those who are guilty of wrongdoing, regardless of their COLOR, shall we?
Fair IS fair, after all.
There are portions of our population...of EVERY nationality...and religion...and race that are just plain, outright BAD people.
That doesn't mean to say we hold the ENTIRE RACE responsible, though.
It DOES mean we should be promoting something we used to call JUSTICE...FOR ALL. (remember hearing that phrase?)
If someone is guilty of wrongdoing, they get punished...NOT get set the hell free.
(except if one is performing a civic duty by promoting "urban renewal" in a unique manner, but that's another story, and I digress)
Someone needs to take this "king" crackerkilla and call him what he truly is...a domestic TERRORIST.
You don't stand on street corners and proclaim murder of another race and NOT have the law come down on you like a ton of bricks.
Maybe at a Black Panther meeting you do...or at a Klan rally you do, but NOT on a street where you have families and children walking, while some loon is saying to "kill cracker babies".
As I said up above..."That just CAN'T be NORMAL".
But that's what happens in Philly...the Cradle of Liberty.
As to what goes on in MY city...or YOURS?
Well, if you're keeping a watchful eye and an open ear and mind...you know full well what is going on.
The question becomes..."What are you planning to do with what you learn?"
There lies the challenge for us ALL...as REAL AMERICANS.
We can either decide to enjoy our ride to Hades in this marvelously adorned handbasket...OR we can attempt to do something to halt or slow the trip.
It's OUR choice to make...or to ignore.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay safe out there, America.

Dear Bob,
We DO have to get a handle on crime in this country. Some of us are sitting pretty on the side of the cliff, others have fallen from the crumbling side into the morass.

It's time to shore it up, and affect a rescue.

Now, along with this, you ask: What are you planning to do with what you learn?

That's a challenge, all right. I think I'll get to work now.

Thanks for a rousing call,
Ann T.

Love the expressiveness of the cliff analogy!

If there is one fear that seems to bother me more than usual, it's that I think if we don't get back on track with crime, punishment and rehabilitation (for those who CAN be rehabilitated, that is...some just cannot), we could be looking at a part of our population that would give ALL law-enforcement a handful, should they EVER decide to stage a rebellion en masse.

One need look no further than Katrina's aftermath in NOLA...or any riot that takes place in a major city...or even the flash mobs that permeate the downtowns across the country.

Sure, the police CAN (and eventually DO) get it under control...after a time, but this type of behavior should never be allowed to OCCUR in the first place.
We are more CIVILIZED than to devolve into such things...and certainly to NOT permit them.

It's not free speech, or expression...it's ANARCHY.

Whatever any of us can do to turn this "trend" around is needed.
We might not believe we are doing much, and some feel they can't make ANY change...but that's where the American Spirit comes in.
We may surprise ourselves.

We can...and should...and must.

Thanks so much for stopping by the fence today.
Always appreciated.

Sorry to hear about the Duck accident in Philly. We rode on one in Arkansas and enjoyed the trip.

The Black Panther video speaks for itself--I can't imagine the media coverage had the word "cracker" been replaced by some guy spouting about any other type of person.

I did some checking about...the HOT SPRINGS tour must be the one you're referring to.
Didn't know they had DUKWs there...
I can bet that was fantastic!

The company in AR is a separate company from the ones I mentioned here.
Wisconsin also has a "Duck Tour" company), and your lake tour sounds very nice.

A tragic situation on the Delaware, though.

As to the (extremist) video, I had originally seen this over a YEAR ago (before it became a viral "sensation" on other media sites), so when I saw the (voter) story come up AGAIN, I recalled a NAT- GEO spot about this guy and dug further.

Plenty of "dirt" to go around, yes?

Sad to say, SOUTH ST. in Philly is NOT what it used to be (which was a nice place to roam about w/ the family and spend a day).

Maybe we should call these guys the Black Klan...the rhetoric sounds too familiar NOT to,eh?

Thanks a lot for taking time to swing on by today.

Long before Branson was a even a spark in Bobby Vinton's eye, the Wisconsin Ducks operated on the Wisconsin River at Wisconsin Dells which is not far from Wisconsin Rapids. Gosh, those Cheeseheads sure get carried away with their state name!

Modern Soldiers do not call Humvees, "HMMWVs" and WW Deuce vets didn't call DUKWs anything but "Ducks."

I rode one of the amphibians at the Dells with my kids and its old engine crapped out so we had to be towed.

As for Bobby Vinton, this Canonsburg, PA legend wandered into my home town near Wheeling, WV with his band to play at my high school prom. That would be back in '56. He was dressed (are you ready for this?) in a White Sports Coat and a Pink Carnation ... all dressed up for the dance.

I did not know that about the Wisconsin ducks...
The reliability issue was sketchy with them...it's like any 2 1/2 ton truck from the era...sometimes they DO break down.
Happens to NEW vehicles as well.

Hey, something as simple as throwing a fan belt will do it!

And Bobby Vinton was one of my Mom's favorite performers...
Pennsy people always seem to "stick together", eh?

AT A PROM???
WOW...that must have been TOO COOL!
Been through Wheeling a few times...not much to see...I actually LIKED it (no slam on the town)
AFter being in a big city for SO long, the repose of a smaller town is VERY nice.

A white sport coat...and a pink carnarion...sounds like that would make some good lyrics to a song from that era...!
(oh, wait...it DID)

Thanks a lot for stopping by and sharing some great stuff!

Dear Bob,
Oh, yes, if anarchy comes, we've got plenty of people to pull it off, the way things seem to be going.

Take care my friend,
Ann T.

I am agreement with you 100%.
My only hope is that those hired to protect the public will be able to.

Much of today reminds me SO much of that old TV show: MAX HEADROOM.

ANd I certainly don't want anything close to RED DAWN, MAD MAX, or WILD IN THE STREETS to happen.
(all good moveis, I might add).

Thanks for commenting.

Sorry to hear you have lost your Dad...but you DO have the stories he told you.

And hopefully, you also have some pictures or mementos of his exploits in the military.

THOSE are worth treasuring.
