24 March 2014

Monday Musings...
We're off and running in this, the FIRST week of SPRING...and the weather forecast is...COLD.
(???)
And there's a good chance of some SNOW (double ???) later today into the evening and overnight.
WTH, man?
Geez, at THIS rate, March will be going OUT like a (frozen) lion...!
Well, we've got clouds now...which will turn into partly sunny skies, and temps that will rise here in the Hoosierland to about freezing (32 F), and that's all she wrote, gang.
But, we WILL be breezy, so it's gonna feel COLDER (like we need more of that).
In the meantime, feel free to heat up a nice cup of whatever is your pleasure this morning, as we see what ELSE has been going on...
*** First out of the reconstituted igloo is the fact this March is being called National Brain Injury Awareness Month.
Who knew?
(well spank me rosy)
Now, in lieu of THAT, I found that some people down here in Fort Wayne's ghettohood took advantage of that by deciding it was "Tow your disabled vehicle with a long strap backwards down the street Day"...
Thank God they haven't tried THIS yet...
You can't make this stuff up.
Two such events took place, and unfortunately, I missed both with my camera (too busy shaking my head, I guess).
I've always said that a LOT of people down here MUST have been dropped on their heads when they were very young, and considering the "parents" we have around here that manage to make the headlines on a regular basis for doing JUST THAT (dropping and throwing infants), it makes sense.
March is ALSO the following:
Women's History Month
National Nutrition Month...(yeah, right...ROFLMAO...pass the pizza and the Guinness)
Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month
A Cannonball Run moment from Jack Elam.
(I'm no proctologist, but some people down here are PERFECT assholes)
Bisexual Health Awareness Month
I missed the International Day of Happiness (20 March)...musta been pissed off that day because it was snowing on the first day of Spring.
THIS guy was happy on the 20th!
Yesterday was Pakistan Day, if anyone  noticed or gave a crap.
Wednesday is Purple Day for Epilepsy Awareness.
And those are the high points for the month...
Makes you wonder WHO is sitting around (while being paid an insanely obscene salary) and deciding what should we all be made aware of and when we should put it on the calendar year.
Moving on...
*** Yes, Spring is supposedly here, and we've been blessed with our feathered friends, my buddy squirrel and Mr. Bunny.
I'm back, Bob...and hungry.
Funny, but even though NONE of them are very good conversationalists, they provide a needed service for people like myself.
A "service rabbit"...what a GREAT idea!
Yumyumyumyumyum...
They allow me to take a deep breath and shrug off the ghetto aspect of this part of town...if for a brief time (until the next boomcar thumps by)
Found a really COOL website that has any bird call you can imagine.
Our nuthatches came by often.
Had fun with that yesterday.
Here's the link:

Anything you want to know about birds...there it is.
Hey, maybe we should call March the National Backyard Sanctuary for Woodland Creatures month...LOL.
And maybe, I could convince some libtard to find me a few hundred THOUSAND bucks as a grant to SUSTAIN it...
Well, the second one would be VERY easy enough to do, knowing how they love to waste money.
But to me and the critters, it wouldn't REALLY be a waste...I mean bird seed DOES cost money, and a proper sanctuary would need MORE area, so I could raze a sh*tload of these hovels in that process.
It has the novelty of never having been tried...yet.
*** Next up and speaking of hovels...seems we had ANOTHER house fire on the (all together, gang) SE side.
This took place near S. Anthony and E. Rudisill late Sunday night (no time listed).
Two people were inside at the time, but evacuated safely.
The FWFD had the fire under control in about 20 minutes.
No cause yet for how the fire started, and the case is under investigation.
(anyone wanna bet some late-night cooking...AGAIN???)
*** And you just KNOW we can't have a weekend go by without some kind of shooting.on the SE side.
This took place late Friday afternoon (1600 hrs) in the vicinity of the 2200 block of Oliver St near Greene..
Sure LOOKS like a shell casing.
FWPD responded to a call for shots fired and found one man with an gunshot wound to the ankle.
Another person on scene claimed the shooting and said it was in self-defense.
No further details are available.
*** Last back to the barn today...a little more about the prologue to upcoming posts about CULTURE.
Let me begin by asking a simple question:
Does our culture define who we are, or do WE define what our culture is?
I think that should open the floodgates of thinking for many of you, as it has for me.
Perhaps in the past we have "inspired" ourselves to produce a culture that was rather unique...or, to put it more precisely...AMERICAN.
Much of who we have been and became was due to the countries our ancestors hailed from.
We (here) are the MELTING POT, but I would like to think of this nation more as a CRUCIBLE; that which burns away the impurities, and produces a better result.
At least, according to history, that is how it used to work.
These days, it seems to me, that while we have have driven our culture for some time, the culture has taken over and now drives US.
Think on that, as we consider all that culture entails, for it's a LOT more than one could ever hope to imagine.
Have a good week.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

I remember one year, there was a National "National Day" Day. The celebration was somewhat subdued.

Chris:
Maybe National Day Day was reclassified under National Redundancy Day?
