20 February 2015

Friday Follies...
Finally we're at the weekend.
Man, it sure seemed a longer week than was necessary.
(must be the cold)
We're looking at some more snow this weekend, and a return to these cold temps next week.
Temps are again into MINUS numbers, but the combined temp and wind-chill isn't enough to close schools...just delay them for a couple hours (has to be minus 20 before FWCS closes, for example).
The rest of our Hoosierland weather will see us with a warm-up today...all the way to around FIFTEEN degrees, but that IS on the plus side (again, no melting)
We should see partly cloudy skies, becoming mostly cloudy as the next winter event comes this way overnight into tomorrow (an inch or two).
So, let's warm ourselves up with a hot cup of our favorite morning beverage as we see what else this day has in store for us...
*** First out of McMurdo AFB is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
February 20 -
---Today is NATIONAL CHERRY PIE DAY.
(it's always a wonderful day for pie)
---And it's HOODIE HOO DAY...(?)
For a description of this Northern Hemisphere "thing", here's a link:
http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20789145,00.html
All I can say is YOU go out and wave YOUR hands in this weather.
--- It's also LOVE YOUR PET DAY...
And in weather like this, I know at least TWO fellow bloggers who will be keeping their pets CLOSE by with temps such as these.
(sounds like a THREE dog night to me...strike up the band)
*** Let's also see what is going on over the weekend (because we can)...
February 21 -
---Saturday is CARD READING DAY...
(tarot anyone?)
Or maybe some old greeting cards?
---And it's NATIONAL STICKY BUN DAY (is there any other kind?
(yum)
February 22 -
---Sunday is GEORGE WASHINGTON'S BIRTHDAY
(blow out the candles)
---It's also BE HUMBLE DAY
(which will NOT be celebrated at the White House)
---And it's WALKING THE DOG DAY (sorry, we have a cat who walks HIMSELF).
BEST reason to have TWO of them.
But I know that Chris will be celebrating the day with Scrappy...right?
---Lastly, it's INTERNATIONAL WORLD THINKING DAY...
Wow, is THAT going to be a stretch for a lot of world leaders...LOL.
And there's your event calendar...have fun with it.
*** Next up, yes friends, another shooting on Fort Wayne's (where else?)...SOUTHEAST SIDE.
Here's the story link:
http://wane.com/2015/02/19/shooting-victim-shows-up-at-gas-station/
Now, the victim (a black male) told police he had been shot last night around 1845 hours at the Phillips station located in the 4400 block of S. Anthony Blvd. Police could not find evidence of a shooting there, and they viewed surveillance video.
The victim was driving a white Olds Aurora (seen THAT car roll through our area MANY times).
He was taken to hospital in serious condition as of the latest update.
(must have been a graze or a small caliber round)
Maybe the man drove himself TO the station after getting shot, not realizing it right away.
The story doesn't say if the vehicle was hit, which would lead me to think the victim was out of the vehicle when he was hit.
As usual, when dealing with people like this, little if any TRUTH is forthcoming.
*** Next up, a story of TWO winters.
Here's the story link:

Wish I was out WEST
Here's a case where we're freezing under multiple feet of snow on the east coast, while they're suffering record heat and drought on the west coast.
A case for global warming? NO.
A case for climate change? Yes, because the climate is always changing.
Wish I was back EAST.
What is not said is how this could be part of a cycle...one that has probably been repeated many times before records for weather were kept.
Like I said, this planet does what IT wants to do...we;re just along "for the ride" as it were.
That doesn't mean we trash the place in the process (like gov't-sponsored renters on the southeast side of Fort Wayne tend to do).
Only takes one GOOD volcano.
Here's something to think about - suppose a couple volcanoes around the world decided to erupt (nothing we can do about that), and spew all this ash into the atmosphere, which in turn, blocks out a portion of sunlight hitting the earth.
The earth goes through a COOLING phase (nothing we can do about that, either, right?), and there goes your global-warming pundits, scurrying for the nearest cave to hide themselves.
I could happen, and given the way some active volcanoes have been behaving of late, sooner than we think.
Like I said...something to think about.
*** Last back to the meat locker...there are those who are claiming that  WE are affecting the world's climate more that it affects itself.
I argue that while w're a small part of that, we're nowhere near the big old baddie here.
Others state that many wars that break out are over resources, and in that I have to agree.
Everyone wants to ":hold all the cards" when it comes to oil...or water...or crops.
Thing is, sooner or later some other bad-ass comes along and wipes the street with the first bad-ass.
We can't really change the world itself, and to think we can is folly, but we CAN change the way WE, as the human race decide to dwell on the planet.
And maybe, more countries need to stop asking for help, and start helping themselves...it's like a macrocosm of out cities here.
You can give until there's nothing left,. and never teach people a damn thing.
Or, you can teach them to do for themselves first, and thereby allow them to give to themselves.
One way is non-productive; the other way creates better people.
Perhaps it's time to start demanding a little self-reliance from others, because asking all these years hasn't done much, has it?
Just a thought...
DO have yourselves a good weekend.
Be well, make a difference to someone today, and, as always...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

I am SSSSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad it's Friday. I am ready for the weekend and I am ready to nap and be lazy and not go outside until spring. Wait, I'm not a bear. Anyway, I'm just glad this work week is over. Yucky. Hope you have a great one. Are you watching the news to see who is up and coming for the GOP 2016 Prez ticket? Some interesting folks are emerging.

Well it ALWAYS is...where you and I and the rest of our followers are concerned.
When it comes to everyone ELSE who's supposed to be running the show...that's a whole other animal, isn't it?

Thanks much for stopping by to comment.
You have a safe weekend and keep warm out there.

It may be a three-dog-night, but I'm two dos short!

And if the weather don't shape up, Scrappy will have to walk himself!

International World Thinking Day? Talk about a International Pissing In The Ocean Day!

Nice Rohn quote. Change wish for pray and you have my last couple weeks spelled out.

(I was gonna say, "In a nutshell," but figured you'd just feed it to Mr Wrinkles...)

Chris:
--I had a feeling you;d say that...lol.
Looks like Scrappy's gonna have to put in some O/T to make up for that.

--Mine too!
--Wrinkles gets PLENTY as it is...heh.
All I get is COLD!
