Humpday Happenings..
Yep, it's definitely fall outside...the mornings are a dead giveaway.
Plus, the number of l;eaves falling are on the increase.
The colors are looking nice enough as well. Not as gorgeous as being in the Poconos, but it's not bad.
Our Hooiserland weather for today finds us with partly cloudy skies, and temps reaching up to around the 60-degree mark.
Time for sweaters and long sleeves.
Might even have some breezes to move all the litter around (and hopefully away from our "Fortress".
I really hate picking up everyone ELSE'S trash. Goes to show what kind of society we have these days.
But, let's not dwell. Let's instead get a cup of glass of our favorite drink, sit back, and see what's been going on in some other places.
*** First off of the couch is today's WHO SAID THAT? quoite of the week:
"One's philosophy is not best expressed in words; it is expressed in the choices one makes... and the choices we make are ultimately our responsibility."
Here's something that a LOT of people fail to realize, and one might think in today's society, we need this more than ever.
So, WHO said that anyway?
The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back at Arthurdale...
*** Next up is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
(and we've got a good number of them)
October 14 -
---Today is NATIONAL DESSERT DAY
One of EACH, please...
ANY day is a great day for ANY sort of dessert, isn't it?)
--- It's also NATIONAL FOSSIL DAY
(No, we're not talking about ME and my age, either, so behave yourselves)
---And it's NATIONAL EMERGENCY NURSES DAY
(those wonderful saviors of the ER and trauma centers)
---It's also NATIONAL STOP BULLYING DAY
(do what I did - befriend a REALLY BIG guy in high school - problem solved!)
---And, it's NATIONAL BRING YOUR TEDDY BEAR TO SCHOOL/WORK DAY
Just don't let Teddy DRIVE you there.
(yeah, well some might give you the "fish-eye" on this one...plan accordingly)
---It's also NATIONAL TAKE YOUR PARENTS TO LUNCH DAY
Preferably a BUFFET!
(not gonna happen for me...for obvious reasons)
---And finally, it's BE BALD AND BE FREE DAY
Sorry Sinead...not gonna go there.
(I'm not a stunt double in Hitman or The Matrix or a stand-in for Jean Luc Picard)
*** Next up, does anyone think there is some "reasoning" behind why police departments across our nation have come under intense scrutiny of late?
And why do they seem to be targeted unjustly?
Have you all heard about a new "plan" that's being implemented called the STRONG CITIES NETWORK?
Take a look at THIS from the DoJ:
http://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/launch-strong-cities-network-strengthen-community-resilience-against-violent-extremism
But, if that's not enough, here's the lowdown from Breitbart:
http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/10/02/obama-administration-and-un-announce-global-police-force-to-fight-extremism-in-u-s/
And more recently, there's THIS:
http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/10/09/obama-officials-subverting-anti-terrorism-effort/
Imagine that...an ORWELLIAN mantra touted with this Strong Cities Network...apparently already in place in New York City and Chicago.
(both cities run by socialist leftards)
I suppose Obummer's chant about a "national police force" could be closer than we think., and would explain WHY our local police departments are walking on eggshells these days?
Best way to dismantle something is to take away it's credibility...and power (authority).
Uh oh, this can't be good.
Seems pretty close to what we're seeing with police departments across the country.
And to make matters worse, this SCN is backed by the United Nations, that sharia-law-embracing body that is looking MORE like the failed League of Nations than ever before, and might need to be replaced or disbanded altogether.
I don't think I want the U.N. in any of OUR cities for ANY real reason...not even liking having their HQ in NYC these days, either.
Maybe they should move to a more NEUTRAL Place...like GENEVA?
If you hear about YOUR city talking about becoming part of this "Strong Cities Network",,,treat it like a leftist drug...and JUST SAY NO!
*** Next up, more flubs from the prosecutor's office and FWPD.
Here's the story link:
http://news-sentinel.com/news/local/crime/Woman-faces-charges-after-allegedly-attempting-to-hit-two-females-with-her-car
This took place back in MARCH (14th) around 1400 hrs to a house in an undisclosed location.
Sarah E. Baltera, 23, of the 900 block of West Berry Street, is charged with two counts of battery and one count of criminal recklessness, Level 5 felonies; possession of cocaine or narcotic drug, a Level 6 felony; and several misdemeanors.
She has NOT been arrested yet...are you serious?
It took THIS long to file charges...SEVEN damn months?
And the charges are not run-of-the-mill...they're pretty serious in nature.
She had been in custody, but was cut loose for some reason.
LOVE to hear that one.
*** Next up, the "truck-hub" that just won;t go away...
Here's the story link:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/Second-truckhub-planned--but-on-landsouth-of-GM-9334090
An example - 4222 Merchant Rd
It seems that SOMEONE wants a truck hub someplace on the SW side of Fort Wayne, and to the residents in nearby areas, that's becoming bothersome. Who wants their nice area to become a center for truck and rail Why can't things like this remain a bit farther AWAY from residential areas?
Well, we could blame "urban sprawl" on some of it...the need to get away from the city and move to what we USED to call "the burbs".
We can also blame it on developers who wish to further encroach upon the same areass, and get even closer to cities.
Surely, there is enough "blame" to go around.
I guess when Fort Wayne city leaders provided General motors with the acreage needed to build their plant (and then further enlarge it over time, and providing all those wonderful tax abatements), no one ever saw ANY of this kind of thing coming along?
It DOES make sense to have rail and truck access CLOSE by to a major manufacturing plant for the obvious reasons.
Why the numerous abandoned warehouses aren't even considered when it comes to upgrading and re-utilization into truck hubs around Fort Wayne makes me wonder.
But, it also makes sense to allow residents the privacy they wanted when they moved out of the city.
They sure never envisioned all the traffic that would come their way, or the other problems it would cause.
Where to find a common bit of ground, and how best to balance the scales here will be the REAL test over time.
*** Last back to the recliner...why is that the more we try to make life better, the worse off we become?
All we, as a society, seem to do these days is turn donuts in the damn parking lot of life, and that sure as hell isn't getting any of us anywhere soon, is it?
No matter how people try to solve problems these days, they in fact, appear to create more of them.
Maybe there are too many "pokers in the fire"?
Maybe we should concentrate our collective efforts to ONE thing at a damn time?
Maybe we need to rely more on ourselves than on those in authority to "fix things"?
You can easily see that we can list the "maybes" until the cows come home, and still not have covered all the bases.
People trust a developer to make good on promises, and then are surprised when said promises are not kept. Too late to do anything about it, after things are built.
We'd like to believe that what people tell us is in fact, the truth, but we're too often hoodwinked in the process.
Our nation's people ALL need to grab those bootstraps and get busy with doing more productive things, instead of kicking back and sucking down a cold one, letting the governments (federal, state and local) to run slip-shod over all of us.
Some think that's fine...the majority of us do not.
Such concepts like effort, civility, integrity, and yes, patriotism STILL have a place in our society.
And we'll be damned if we'll permit anyone to demand otherwise from any of us.
THAT is what we need to do, to think, and to believe.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Your after-quote: very true...

This fossil would like some desert, lol!

Don't have a teddy to bring to work... I have chocolate moose, though...

Aw, c'mon, Bob, you'd make a great Picard!

Anything backed by the UN is fishy in my book... great idea (the UN), horribly failed execution.

Explain the Baltera mess-up in 2 words: Blonde Phantom.

Look at the link later, time for food right now...

--I can never get enough of finding quotations.

--You ain't no fossil either, Bub!

--Wonder if they have "Moose Parking Only" there?

--Too busy being a renegade Time Lord to be a starship captain...but I kept the uniform...just in case.

--The I.N> began well enough, but so did the League of Nations. They just failed FASTER.
It's time for the U.N. to think likewise.

--You got THAT right!

Now...Go get your grub.
And thanks for stopping by to comment.

Stay safe up there, brother.

Stop Bullying sounds great but I think if we taught kids to stand up to bullies they would be much better off. Until we teach them to stand up for themselves we are just raising a bunch of whiners and sissies. The only way to stop a bully is to stand up to them. IMHO. And yes I was bullied in school only back then we called it teasing. my 2¢ worth..

MsN:
I agree w/ you 100%.

And what better way to stand up TO those bullies than with a friend of yours who TOWERS over them?
It worked for me...really.

Guess you could say that was the "Philly mob" part of me...lol.

Seriously, my Dad always told me the BEST way to deal with ANY bully..."hit them FIRST, and make it hard, fast and dirty."
That ALSO worked well.

Kids today are not taught the values WE were, though.
But some parents do buck this "trend", thankfully.
Maybe it will catch on again...we can hope.

Your 2 cents was well spent here.
Thanks for the comment.

Stay safe & be well down there, dear.
