Humpday Happenings...
Welcome to the middle of our week, and all the "stuff" that comes with it.
Got ourselves another winner of a day outside. Had plenty of stars to see with that clear sky.
Our Hoosierland weather today will see a "three-peat" with another fine day of sunshine , but it will be getting cloudy later on, and highs again into the lower 70s.Tomorrow, we turn the corner with a bit of a cool-down...and some rain expected.
But, let's not allow that to be a damper for this day.
Go grab your favorite drink and we'll get this show on the road.
*** First out of the laundry chute is our WHO SAID THAT? quote of the week:
"Have the courage to say no. Have the courage to face the truth. Do the right thing because it is right. These are the magic keys to living your life with integrity.".
Makes you think about how much better this old world would be if ONLY more people took this to heart, right?
So, who said that? The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back at the Newsstand...
*** Next, it's time for our 'What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
November 4 -
---Today is NATIONAL CHICKEN LADY DAY
Dr. Tina Dupree
Here's a little help with this one:
http://www.thechickenlady.com/
(I do remember the "duck lady" in center city Philly...what a curiosity and not a pretty picture)
---And, it's NATIONAL CANDY DAY
(sure to make every diabetic cringe...and dentists see dollar signs)
*** Next up, it looks like we're STUCK with FOUR MORE YEARS of the "status quo" down at City hall with the re-re-election of our monarch, King Henry the Mediocre.
I'm sure we'll just see SO many positive changes down here on the SOUTH side...
((...rolls eyes...))
Hail to the king, baby! (again)
Got a better chance of seeing God stop by the "Fortress" for lunch.
I will say that the Good Old Boy Network is one powerful regime to unseat, and that our king IS the best mayor money can buy.
There is an up-side to all this, and that is the fact that City Council now has ONE MORE republican seated there. We could call that a super-majority now.
Y'all ain't NEVEH gittin' ridome.
The only dems are Geoff Paddock (Mr. high-speed rail), and Glynn (only MY people matter) Hines - elected forever thanks to that race card.
Rusty York's bid for 4th district councilman came up short (just like his ability to run the FWPD with any level of perspicacity), which means he will remain as our Public Safety Director, unless council can find a way to defund it.
2 Empty Suits aka The "Far From Dynamic" Duo
It also means that the FWPD will continue to be run (into the ground) by Garry Hamilton, who has done a wonderful job of...come to think of it, what HAS he been doing?
And, we probably won't see ANY additional police officers on our streets, or the reserve program increased, which means more radio-chasing for the boys and girls in blue.
It was a DAMN GOOD try, Mitch.
A shame that Mitch Harper didn't get a CHANCE to make things better, aside from the downtown and riverfront areas. His vision was something I was looking forward to.
Now, nothing will change (except for the worse) down here for another four years, because the problems we've had to deal with have not affected our king's ability to get a good night's sleep. His conscience must be okay with an entire quadrant going down the crapper, and costing the city money, instead of actually producing revenue...the way it used to.
And let's not forget that OUR problems are fast becoming the same problems for the SW and NE sides of Fort Wayne.
But, we'll have a great DOWNTOWN, and soon, a fantastic RIVERFRONT!
(because that matters more than entire neighborhoods)
At least, I'll have a foil for my rantings for another 4 years...it's not a total loss.
Moving on...
*** Next up, Ohio voted down the referendum to legalize marijuana in the Buckeye State - a damn good move (imho).
We have enough problems with state-line jumping drunks...we don't need to add to that mess.
Sorry, ain't gonna happen (YAY!!!)
And, we don't need people (here) going over to Ohio for pot...w're certainly NOT that much of a liberal hub of insanity. Not YET, anyway.
It's not about money, either. Colorado is already thinking about a repeal, because of those unintended consequences.
Common sense has prevailed to our neighboring state for the time being.
*** Next, Greg Gutfeld, co-host of THE FIVE on FOX News, is going to be in Fort Wayne TODAY at NOON up at the Barnes and Noble bookstore.
It will be SUNNIER...I promise.
I would like to go and have him sign a book, as he has written a few that look really good. Plus, I like his style of humor.
Gotta love this guy - he speaks the TRUTH.
He is a master of what I like to call the "comparative narrative".
His latest book.
So, if YOU are in the area, now's your chance to buy a good book, get a selfie, or whatever it is you wacky people do with, for, or to celebrities with tour buses.
*** Last back to the dry-cleaners...almost feels like we've been living at the dry cleaners (we've been TAKEN there for years) for the past couple decades in Fort Wayne.
More of this on the way.
I mean, for what many citizens pay for on the south side versus what is returned to them is minimal at best.
A "D" would be welcome!
Sure, the power stays on (except for the outage "farts" several times a year for no reason), and the water keeps running (and for some reason,we need to have the BEST water on the planet).
We get the trash picked up (usually by a new crew ever month, which is scary), and Neighborhood Code Enforcement does a decent job with violations (but are understaffed).
Police are there to ANSWER CALLS...notice I didn't say TO STOP CRIME, because that is a task they apparently have been denied the ability to perform, as we need a more ":community-understanding" department.
At least for the next FOUR years.
All that means to me is ignore the small stuff and then run around like hell when the big stuff happens, trying to find anyone who can HELP the police, because they're not getting any help from WITHIN the department.
When I lived in a  row-house in Philly for 25+ years, I called the PPD TWICE...maybe three times...tops..
HERE, I call the FWPD about twice...a MONTH. And that's only for the most blatant violations or noise. I could EASILY call them ten times a day for all the little things THEY are missing JUST in our area, but it all comes down to being able to ANSWER my call in a TIMELY manner.
TWICE NOTHING is STILL NOTHING, sire!
So, it's 4 more years of hearing this "quality-of-life" BS from his majesty.
If there were more patrols, we wouldn't even have to revisit this mess all the damn time.
But, our king IS doing a great job (for those in his court).
History is replete with how so many monarchs were not good rulers, and ignored the cries of their people.
Maybe we're not wearing sackcloth and carrying wooden pitchforks and torches to HIS gates, but we SHOULD have a better voice than the one that's being portrayed.
There HAS to be more people who think his reign in Fort Wayne has been overstayed'
And yet, there he sits once again...in his office at City Hall, oblivious to those of us who have few amenities, little in the way of safety, especially after dark, and no real light at the end of any tunnel.
Hell, even the tunnel is not on the "fix-it" list anytime soon.
But...we DO have one nice DOWNTOWN...and soon, a matching RIVERFRONT.
Long live the king...(yeah right).
It's not a case of sour grapes for me.
It's a lack of solutions to decades-old problems - problems that will continue to befall us down here.
And it's a lack of action by MORE of this city's people.
They want to keep wearing their blinders and embrace the familiar...at whatever price it may cost others.
Be nice to change THAT.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Cringing...

Said all I'm gonna say on the election last night. Preaching to the choir here anyway, lol!

Missed Gutfeld, but then again I missed Paul Hornung at Glenbrook, too.

Oh yeah, one more thing about the election... the next time I see him, I'm gonna Gibbs-slap King Tom for letting WANE interrupt NCIS for him last night.

Chris:
Had a feeling it would be short & sweet regarding your take (here) on the election.
I read YOUR post...very good.

Also, that's WHY whenever WANE has something going on concurrent with NCIS, I hold off until the reruns, because you KNOW they'll preempt it (I also like THE FLASH more...sorry, Gibbs).

Yes, the next mayoral term WILL be cringe-worthy, especially we few down here who still give a rat's ass.

Thanks for stopping by to comment today.

Stay safe up here, brother
