Thoughts For Thursday...
Sorry...geez!
Okay, so it's NOT raining this morning...and it's NOT foggy outside. Hell, we might just get a decent day out of all this (unless someone comes along and screws it all up...lol).
Our Hooiserland weather WILL have you thinking it's JULY out there today, with temps expected to rise into the EIGHTIES.
(alright, that's too hot for me)
Mostly sunny skies will be coming along for the ride, so if you're at the beach, don't get too burned.
(we on the SE side get "burned" most every day, so I'm used to that...heh)
Now, without any further ado, let's get our morning beverages poured and parked nearby, as we see what's been going on elsewhere...
*** First out of the surf shop today is the answer to yesterday's WHO SAID THAT? quote:
"Ethics is the activity of man directed to secure the inner perfection of his own personality."
This was attributed to Albert Schweitzer (14 January 1875 - 4 September 1965)
And here (again) is his WIKI:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Schweitzer
We only had two prior quotes from good old "Al", so I thought it was high time we did another.
Face it, the guy had a lotta GOOD stuff to say, right?
Albert was a theologian, philosopher, organist, physician, and medical missionary (in case you forgot).
And he was really into pipe organ rescue and restoration.
According to his WIKI, he believed "the Western civilization was decaying because it had abandoned affirmation of life as it's ethical foundation."
Yeah, was true then, and even MORE true today, right?
I posted one of his quotes in each of the last two years...time to keep that ball rolling this year.
The WIKI is always a good read (imho).
Moving on...
*** And yes, time once again for our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
May 7 -
---Today has only two things going on - NATIONAL TOURISM DAY.
Cripes, a whole WEEK?
Guess it makes sense that yesterday we were busy appreciating the "tourists".
I suppose it would be too much trouble to COMBINE them?
---It's also the NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER.
This started in 1952, enacted by Truman. Great idea.
Lord knows we can use THIS one.
*** Next up, since I am STILL awaiting the delivery of our morning paper (yes, he's late several times EACH month), I thought we could have a bit of a chat about something we're hearing more of in the recent news - A NATIONAL POLICE FORCE.
First of all, before we get started, I am dead set AGAINST such a thing.
After all, that's why we have a MILITARY...to protect the NATION, right?
When it comes to LOCAL enforcement of the laws of the land, it should and MUST be handled at the LOCAL levels, be they state or municipal.
But, when I hear Sharpton mouth off about a national police agency, and also hear Obummer spout off about the same thing, I tend to get a might scared over the premise, and here's why.
---Sherman, set the WAY-BACK machine for the early 1930s with the location of Germany as our destination, where we find a similar situation, in that those in that country created the same thing after the dismal failure of their democratic "experiment" aka the Weimar Republic.
The police "force" was known as the Ordnungspolizei, or ORPO.(translates to "Order Police")
You can call them the "green shirts".
And yes, there is a WIKI for them here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ordnungspolizei
Much of this came under the Ministry of the Interior (run by Himmler, also head of the SS) and were under the complete control of the Nazi regime, ergo a NATIONAL police force.
This united the municipal, city, and rural uniformed police that HAD been organized on a state-by-state basis (like the way WE are today)
"Show us your papers"
The WIKI goes into the structure of the organization, and describes it's functions during it's run from 1933 to 1945. BTW, it didn't work out...lol.
Now, if you don't think THIS is what Obummer and his cronies want in America, you're living in a damn cave. This is EXACTLY what they would love to see...complete control over ALL the police under one "umbrella" organization.
And the road to this has already begun.
When our local police become fearful of performing their duty because of civil repercussions or even criminal charges, that's not a good sign.
And when you consider that ALL police and other law-enforcement agencies are completely VOLUNTEER in nature, you can see why recruitment could take a serious nosedive.in the future.
You "could" always lower the standards, but that wouldn't be the right or best way to proceed (you tend to get what you pay for).
That's what we're seeing with our military (also all-volunteer at this juncture) - the regime wants to LOWER standards in the USMC, and there's a lot of push-back on this. I can see why. Marines don't take kindly to being made weaker in ANY fashion or form.
But you can see these comparisons between the military and law-enforcement.
That brings up another thing, and even though it happened a couple years back, it should trouble everyone.
Remember when the Department of Homeland Security (under the former secretary Janet Napolitano) went out and bought up over 1.6 BILLION rounds of hollow point ammunition?
Remember the several THOUSAND MRAP vehicles?
Here's a refresher course:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/ralphbenko/2013/03/11/1-6-billion-rounds-of-ammo-for-homeland-security-its-time-for-a-national-conversation/
Yeah, how soon we dismiss this...so what happened to all this "stuff", anyway?
I didn't see any of it "on sale" anyplace as surplus...did you?
Why would any department need ALL of this...IF something wasn't in the works?
Yeah, I know the more you seek answers, the more questions you uncover.
But, haven't we ALREADY "militarized" the local police departments?
FWPD's Commando V-150 armored car.
Sure we have. Many also have surplus military vehicles, mostly armored cars for SWAT teams. Some even have full-tracked vehicles.
There is a reason for this, and it's as simple as having the police transition from revolvers to semi-auto hi-cap mag pistols.
The BAD GUYS have better weapons that the police USED to...simple, huh?
When the thugs start carrying 17+ round pistols, don'cha think our POLICE should do likewise?
Remember the North Hollywood shootout with the two perps who had full-auto AKs?
Totally caught the police with their pants down around their ankles, and the officers had to "borrow" some ARs from a local gun store to combat the duo.
You don't want to ever find yourself out-gunned on a damn city street, and that's why officers today might be carrying some sort of long gun in their cruisers.
Used to be a time when even BODY ARMOR wasn't worn by police...no real need to have it.
Can't say the same today, can we?
The bad guys have "upped the ante", so to protect the public (and themselves) police have had to react in kind.
Hardest thing to do in law-enforcement is to stay a few steps AHEAD of the bad guys, because THEY are always looking for ways to stay ahead of the police.
But we don;t have need to "nationalize" our local law-enforcement.
*** Last back to the station house...it's been said that "if we never learn from history, we are destined to repeat it", and these days I can see that happening with regularity.
Many say we've come a long way in the realm of race-relations...statistics say otherwise. More people think race relations are WORSE than back in the 1970s.
Personally, I thought the bubble burst in the 80s with the advent of crack cocaine into urban neighborhoods.
I do know that the level of VIOLENCE has ramped up considerably in those urban areas since the 1970s, even IF the actual crime RATES have fallen, and that paints a very disturbing picture for the law-abiding citizens there, as well as for the police. It ain't that secure out there, or even in your damn house.
Targeting officers for nothing less than murder or assassination tells the tale, when it comes to violence. And whitey ain't leading the pack here.
Certainly, we have the race-baiters out there, crying the blues over something THEY themselves have created - a constant state of anger (they call it frustration) against the system.
Thing is, these same leftists are the ones who CREATED that "system" in the first place.
THEY were the ones dumping TRILLIONS of tax dollars into the inner cities for all these programs designed to raise people FROM poverty.
Not working out all that well.
Again, statistics proves them wrong....little to nothing has been done to raise people from poverty, for if things HAD worked out, the poverty levels here would be a helluva lot LOWER and more minorities would be succeeding, rather than becoming generational dependents OF the system.
People need to take charge of THEMSELVES, rather then look to those who would only seek to keep them down in life.
These race baiters need to be called out, and the people they supposedly (mis) represent, need to wake the hell up and see what's being done TO them year after year, rather than FOR them...and take a stand against such divisiveness which has been coming from their own people.
Then, maybe we can get back to other things like making this nation a beacon of liberty again, instead of a refuge for the corrupt and lazy.
Now THAT would work.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Humpday Happenings...
Hey, is that FOG I see outside this morning?
Sure looks like it, and to some rural school systems, they've already gone on 2-3 hour delays.
Not so in Fort Wayne...business (and school) as usual...(...joy...).
Our Hooiserland weather today will see this fog eventually burning off (no sunrise - sorry kids), some partly cloudy skies and temps again rising into the upper seventies. As far as any rain goes...doesn't look like any of that today...maybe tomorrow, though.
Sure gonna feel like Summertime (anyone for some Mungo Jerry?)
So, let's get our cup or glass of midweek fortitude poured and set out seeing what has been going on, shall we?
*** First out of the lighthouse today is our WHO SAID THAT? quote:
"Ethics is the activity of man directed to secure the inner perfection of his own personality."
This should clue all of you in on HOW some of the people we interact with and watch on the news operate, so WHO said this anyway, hmm?
The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back at the medical missionary school...
*** It's also time once again for our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
April 6 -
---Today is BEVERAGE DAY
If it TASTES good, it IS good.
And you better have yours parked alongside as you're reading this.
---It's also NATIONAL TOURIST APPRECIATION DAY.
Never see THESE people down here (if they're lucky)
Don't have to worry about that...we NEVER get ANY tourists down here...unless they got LOST going someplace else (like the Griswold family)...lol
---It's also NATIONAL NURSES DAY
(find one and give 'em a hearty THANKS)
---And, it's NO DIET DAY.
I don't worry about this one, either...I NEVER do anything with the word DIE in it...he.
---It's also SCHOOL NURSES DAY
Great way to mix TWO events nicely, although with it being NURSES DAY, you'd think this was a no-brainer, right?
*** Next up, the black woman found in the trash bin has been ID'ed.
Here's the story link (with video)
http://wane.com/2015/05/05/body-of-woman-found-in-trash-can-identified/
What I find very troubling, is that this young woman had enough obstacles to overcome in life.
She suffered from diabetes and had to take insulin regularly, she had developmental delays due to fetal alcohol syndrome (tells you lots about her biological mom). She certainly did NOT need to end up as she did.
(we have a murderer on the loose again in this city that SHOULD end up as Zhanelle did, however)
Since she was 19, there was never any "alert" issued when she went missing back in December, so the family used social media to get the word out about her disappearance.
I also think that the city should canvass ALL the vacant homes and have the trash bins collected from those properties ASAP.
Don't give those people who might wish to harm others the opportunity to utilize such devices.
Vacant house with trash bin outside
I sent an email to the solid waste department suggesting they check and collect bins from vacant and abandoned properties.
I feel such a thing should be done whenever a property goes vacant for whatever reason.
We have several properties around us that are vacant and still have bins outside (no, I don't plan to check any of them).
These bins "migrate" many times - others snatch them up and "add" them to THEIR property, which means some houses have THREE of the 96 gallon bins, while other houses have none. Beats calling the city and ASKING for one to be dropped off, but that's just the way these "people" shake down here.
Moving on...
*** It's looks like "King" Henry will be squaring off with former councilman Mitch Harper for the throne in City Hall. We can use the change (imho).
Nice black eye, "sire"...
Henry barely won last time against Paula Hughes, but...the king has a huge treasury to draw from, while Mitch does not (yet).
Still; Hughes also didn't have the money Henry did, and she made a respectable showing in the last election.
IN with the NEW - OUT with the OLD. Let's hope.
Maybe...THIRD TIME'S the "charm", and we get RID of the democrats ruling the realm, and get back to more conservative values?
We can but hope...
*** Next up, I heard that McD's is once AGAIN changing their menu...gimme a break.
((...rolls eyes...))
confusing, ain't it?
Is anyone getting as PO'ed as I am at what we now jokingly call FAST FOOD?
I remember when fast food meant JUST THAT...FAST (less than a minute all the time.
Of course, those were also the days when a hamburger at McD's cost THIRTY NINE CENTS (cheeseburgers were a dime MORE).
My, how times have changed.
It pretty much seems that ANY fast food joint doesn't JUST do ONE thing (well) any longer.
They are ALL playing this dumb-ass culinary "diversity" game - the more choices, the better...seriously?
If I go to a hamburger joint, I expect HAMBURGERS...period.
If I want chicken, I go to a chicken joint...ditto for tacos, or anything else..
That's the way it USED to be, and it worked out well enough (and less costly, too)
For example...you walked into a McDs, strolled up to the counter, told the cashier WHAT you wanted and PRESTO, a minute later, you were walking out with your goods...simple, right?
And it ONLY gets worse...
You KNEW what they served, and did not have to spend several MINUTES at the counter DECIDING what to get from menus that was growing into a bloody billboard with DOZENS of "combo meals".
Now, it seems that Burger King is no longer the ONLY place that does "special orders"...every single fast food place does the same damn thing.
That kinda takes the FAST outta the "fast food" nomenclature, does it not?
Now, if you go to a place where they, in fact, make EACH ORDER SEPARATELY, you can't with a good conscience call that a FAST food place, can you, now?
Penguin Point comes to mind. It's NOT fast food (but it's good food), because EACH order is...made TO order.
How simple is that?
And they have a VARIED menu for that reason.
So, you sit down, and they bring it out TO YOU...usually within a few minutes...and you have a nice, RELAXING meal.
We also hear the fast food joint breakfast menus are going to be served ALL day?
Isn't that what the hell IHOP is for?
It's like we've takne ALL these once separate eateries and are forcing them to become ONEHOMOGENEOUS bastion of gluttony...WTF FOR???
Can't we go to a specific place for specific foods any longer? Have we become THAT lazy?
I guess the days of TRUE fast food are over...unless you're at home with your microwave.
*** Wifey stopped by Lowe's on the way home the other day and brought some "additions" to our garden.
I did get the Asian lilies in the ground between the rain showers yesterday...the annuals will have to wait until the weekend, when we plan to get all the pots and hanging baskets squared away.
We're still deciding on the combinations (I call them "themes"...lol).
Usually, we always have some sort of red, white and blue (purple) out in the urns alongside the front steps.
*** Last evening and night we had some assholes playing loud music...couldn't tell where (exactly) where it was coming from, but definitely farther than the 30-foot limit set down by city ordinances. Seemed to be a house, also. Sounded a block over.
I called in a 44LM to FWPD dispatch, and found out there were TWO OTHER calls for the same thing in the same area (around Hanna and Pettit), so, it's nice to know I'm not the ONLY one that this seemingly constant cacophony bothers.
Also heard three shots go off a few blocks over around 2230 hrs.
Like I always tell Wifey - "never a dull moment down here, that's for sure".
*** Last back to the garage...you know, I have this love-hate relationship with this city.
Been that way ever since our apartment was broken into (here) back in the late '90s.
And since then, I've had to learn to be (more) "on-guard" and at-the-ready for whatever bullshit would choose to come our way.
Fort Wayne does have a lot going for it, considering it's 1/10th the size of my hometown, Philadelphia.
We have LOTS of shopping, nice restaurants, a fantastic children's zoo, a decent nightlife (if you haven't grown up and are still into THAT), a great library, and other amenities that serve much of the populace very well.
But, all of this is EVERYPLACE ELSE...not anywhere close to where WE live, and there lies the problem.
Wifey recalls a time when OUR part of town had as much as the other three quadrants, and when I first moved here, We might not have had AS MUCH as when Wifey was growing up, but we STILL had a LOT more than we do now.
Every year, we seem to lose a little more, and if there is any gain to be found down here, the city is hiding it DAMN well.
Can't have a backyard like THIS in Philly row-homes.
And the ONLY thing that has changed since I moved here...are the people.
The WRONG ones, mind you...as in they have continued to expand their "sphere of influence", bringing their baggage with them (that would be crime and abnormal behavior).
THIS is the part of this city I detest with every fiber of my being, and that's not the best way to go through the autumn of one's life.
And we have friendly critters that love the camera.
You would like to take it a bit easier, enjoy all the things life still has to offer, and yet, you are all but denied such things, because you have to listen to the lives of others (yes, they are that loud all the damn time).
You have to see the worst that humanity has to offer every day and just "put up with it".
I have a problem with that...see, I'm not part of the problem that we have down here.
And neither are others that feel the same way I do. We are the one trying to live our lives, and bother no one along the way.
Got some damn nice sunrises, too.
We are the ones having to watch our property constantly (for incursions), while at the same time, take some pride in what we have.
The area itself is DAMN nice...with the right people in it...the way it used to be say, a DOZEN years ago.
It could be that way again...IF, and only if people would LEARN a few things about life, about living among others, understanding what respect is, and living with a sense of ethical behavior. Never met anyone yet who was a total shit because they were ethical and had good morals and values.
And I don't think you have either.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America

05 May 2015

Tuesday Tidbits...
Welcome to a rather SOGGY day here in the Midwest.
Nothing like those April showers in May to get things off to an auspicious start.
The rest of our Hoosierland weather will see us with rain and clouds most of the day, with temps rising to the mid-seventies.
Might even see (and hear) a thunderstorm (and some "might not be too fond of what follows" - gratuitous Avenger's reference)
That's sure to bring in some humidity, right?
In the meantime, as our flowers (and weeds) keep growing, let's all get our favorite morning beverage beside us, and see what else is going on around us...
*** First out of the umbrella factory is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
May 5 -
---It's CINCO DE MAYO
(and a damp one here...lol) Sorry Pancho, gonna have to celebrate in the RAIN.
---It's also NATIONAL HOAGIE DAY
(that called a "sub" for you Midwesterners)
Sure miss those BLIMPIE stores they USED to have here in Ft. Wayne...
THOSE people KNEW how to make a REAL HOAGIE (unlike Subway - bloody posers)
---And, it's OYSTER DAY
happy as a "clam"?
(but NOT on the half-shell for me, thank you...I prefer oyster stew)
---It's also NATIONAL TEACHER'S DAY
(fortunately, I have my very OWN to hug when she comes home)
*** It's also time once again to show you ALL the shots fired and armed robbery calls for last week, that the media sources NEVER tell you about.

==========================================
Of course, the majority of calls were on the SOUTHEAST side...you were expecting something other than that?
*** Looks like that vacant (former) Scott's market up on N. Anthony Blvd that had the rear wall blown out the other week was indeed another ARSON.
(big surprise there, huh?)
Here's the story link:
http://wane.com/2015/05/04/reward-offered-in-arson-investigation/
Investigators have determined that a fire was deliberately set at the structure and that a propane tank had exploded.
The building had been vandalized before this incident (again, no surprise).
One helluva "BOOM", wasn't it?
Anyone want to say WHY the building was not SECURED in the first place...or WHY those who own it did not check for possible FLAMMABLE materials inside our outside?
Someone's got some serious "splainin" to do...con't they?.
While they;'re at it, they can ALSO check the vacant Scotts along Decatur Rd...just in case.
*** And speaking of SPLAININ, there's this little gem:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/courts/Charges-dismissed-in--14-slaying-6470306
Seems the blonde phantom, aka Allen County Prosecutor Karen Richards hasn't just dropped the ball this time - she looks to be playing for the other side.
A murder charge has been TOSSED, because this case doesn't appear to be a "slamdunk" for Richards.
That turns a murderer loose on OUR streets once again.
And this is the perp that boasted that he "wanted a speedy trial - get it over with".
It's sure it's over with NOW...at least for the time being.
Anyone want to just cap his thug ass and call it done?
Ever hear of something called NATURAL JUSTICE?
(those of you who saw the movie The Punisher (2004) know exactly what I'm talking about.
Frank Castle "gets it".
This is a TRAVESTY of the highest order, and now places anyone in the city at risk, especially those in the ghettohood where this cretin was spawned (and whatever good traits he would have had ran down his father's leg).
The above link has other stories that "connect the dots" in this case.
---In a related story is the mom of the shooting victim from Eby Ave (September 2014),  and she is moving OUT of Fort Wayne.
Here's this story:
http://wane.com/2015/05/04/mom-of-shooting-victim-theres-no-one-here-to-protect-us/
I don't give a rip how ghetto she may or may not be...she states FACTS, people.
And it just seems SO damn coincidental that the ONE witness (in the vehicle with Benson, the shooter)  who could place Benson at the scene, pulling the trigger, Dreyden Troyer JUST happened to be hit by a damn train shortly before he was to testify.
Anyone EVER hear of something called a DEPOSITION???
WHY wasn't a written statement taken down BEFORE Troyer was "killed" by the train,..which to me, sounds WAY TOO convenient?
It's SO easy, even a caveman could do it.
If a person makes a written (or these days, VIDEO) statement (pre-trial), that becomes admissible in court, but we're not hearing that one was ever taken down by either police or Allen County prosecutor's office...that's really DAMN odd...don'cha think?
I hope someone (perhaps at the state level or higher) decides to open this huge can of worms, because the TRUTH needs to come out...and soon.
Final home for Charles Antwon Benson
Get this animal back OFF the streets...or get someone to place HIS dead ass in a garbage bin near an abandoned house on the SE side...either way works for me.
Moving on...
*** Speaking of trash bins, Frank Gray had a good column about the D/B found in one on Eckart St. this past weekend.
Frank Gray gets it.
Here's the link:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/frank-gray/Body-found-in-bin-disturbing-new-low-6464395
Yes, Frank...it IS a new low for the city, and for a lot of the people infesting the SOUTHEAST side.
It represents a highly disturbing trend, if one can call it that for people of color - lots of abandoned properties, not enough PATROLS, and the seeming inability for the command staff of the FWPD to allow officers to get to really KNOW their areas of coverage.
My post yesterday mentioned Sheila Jackson, who stated that police do NOT patrol the parks or "walk" the streets as she remembers.
THAT by itself doesn't allow police to attune themselves to all the little things that make up the mosaic of a neighborhood or community. At least NOT down here.
We have alleys down there that not even the TRASH truck can go down...overgrown foliage, strewn trash behind houses and along streets. Never hear about all this, though.
Not enough people give a damn...that's ONE part of the problem.
So, it's no wonder we see bodies burned in the trunks of cars, or taken to the woods, dismembered and torched, or tossed into a garbage bin, like an empty beer bottle, or a soiled disposable diaper.
*** Last back to the downspout...it's the PEOPLE who are responsible for what we read about these days...period!
Made up of people, too.
Events do not spontaneously occur...they have HELP, and always in the form of human beings.
People commit murder...people rape, people burglarize, commit arson, molest children, and every other aberrant form of behavior you can imagine.
Life is precious to many...cheap for some, and there lies the problem.
We try to educate people, toss money into programs designed SPECIFICALLY to turn around behaviors we find offensive..and .to what end?
It's not working out as we, a society have envisioned.
Take THAT, you leftists.
Some people WANT to be "stupid"...that's why we have CRIMINALS (and prisons to house them...that we ALSO pay for).
We have created a judicial system that, over time, has all but rewarded the perpetrator, while blaming the "victim".
We have allowed a permissive mindset to take hold, fueled by entitlements and promises of equality, when true equality has been there all along, needing no help at all.
We, as Americans should be on guard and voice OUR opinions whenever we see such injustices take hold, because if we do not, the future will find us all ill-prepared for the outcome of such non-intervention on our part.
There is a crossroads in this nation, and WE, the people are standing at it, whether we know it or not.
And the choices we make, or do not make, will have far-reaching consequences.
Just thought you should know that, because you DESERVE to know that.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.
