Tuesday Tidbits...
Oh, the weather outside is frightful...isn't it?
Gotta love that global-warming going on, right?
Most all schools that aren't closed (and we have a few) are on 2- hour delays (except for Jay County. They prefer three hour delays). Don't rule out more closings, however.
People around here LOVE to change their minds at the very last moment.
Our Hoosierland weather today will be cold...and will get colder as the day progresses. We've also some very "firm" windage going on outside, as I noticed when shoveling the sidewalk (for all the good it does as the locals prefer to walk in the streets where they can get struck by vehicles).
I'm a victim of global warming.
Whatta world, right?
The high today is whatever it is right NOW, which is around 20 degrees. From there, the bottom drops out. Might even see the sun for a bit. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Just take your time when venturing out on the roads...wherever you're going is STILL gonna be there if it takes you a few minutes longer to arrive, and certainly isn't worth placing yourself at risk, right?
Now, let's get that nice hot cup of affirmation poured as we see what else has been going on...
*** First out of the snow drift is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
January 12 -
---Today is NATIONAL PHARMACIST DAY
(let's hope we don't need any prescripts due to weather-related stuff)
---It's also NATIONAL CURRIED CHICKEN DAY
(Not really into curry , but it's okay once in a great while)
---And, it's NATIONAL MARZIPAN DAY
(Not much into this, either, although I love sugar and almonds. Go figure.)
*** Next up, are all those wonderful police calls that demonstrate the level of stupidity that SOME citizens of our city just can't stop exhibiting, and the media never reports.

FIREWORKS CALLS - 1/5 - 1/10
===========================
((NONE - for a change)) A-Frigging-Mazing!
*** Next, we have (still) ANOTHER shooting, and in the usual place - the SOUTHEAST side of town.
Why does this kinda crap NEVER surprise me any longer?
Here's the story (and don't expect much info from the po-po):
This took place last evening in the 3300 block of Alexander St (east of S.Anthony Blvd and another source says the 3000 block...which one is correct?) around 1907 hrs.
A man was in a car when he was shot multiple times, one round striking his face.
Police saw two men running from the scene, but no arrests have been made.
The victim was taken to hospital and was downgraded to critical condition. A woman and child were also in the car.
The child was cut by flying glass, but the injuries were not serious.
--What is kinda weird, is that there were shots fired in OUR area (next intersection west of us) around 1915 hrs - 3 groups of 3 shots each. Never saw a FWPD cruiser come through the area (Wifey didn't call it in). She said the shots were "moving", so it's likely to be from a vehicle travelling the area.
So my question is simple - WHERE THE F$CK ARE THE DAMN POLICE PATROLS?
And people wonder WHY things never get better down here?
That answer is too obvious to discuss.
*** Next, what does a county do when they have road maintenance issues and need some money?
Listen to the flush.
Why,. just JACK UP the damn gas and cigarette taxes, that's what.
(they should just jack off...or perhaps, THAT'S their problem?)
Here's the story link:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/indiana/House-GOP-offers-plan-for-roads-10889944
Guess this is proof that the STATE GOP isn't really about being CONSERVATIVE.
Just liberals with a different name?
Makes perfect sense...we enjoy LOW gas prices (which could run back up with a single fart from some sheikh in the Middle East), and only 20% of Hoosiers still smoke, so the AMOUNT of money that "could" be raised is far LESS than say taxing something else...like food and beverage (at restaurants), right?
I'm just sayin'.
Doesn't matter what side of the aisle these people are from...they NEVER seem to think things through, but rather just go with the EASY WAY OUT...and that's not the better way by far, is it?
*** Next, an update of the police-action shooting I mentioned yesterday.
Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/Fleeing-suspect-has-long-record-10886860
You Effin LOSER!
Oh, gee...the victim, one Chad Allen Kinney, age 37,  has a LONG police record...now who the hell coulda NOT seen THIS one coming., I ask you?
Tell us something we DON'T know or could reason the hell out.
The Blonde Phantom (aka Allen County prosecutor Karen Richards) and her staff seem to LOVE to turn crims back out, and that only means they get to be arrested again...and again...and again.
The FWPD officer involved, Jean Gigli (yes, he is a guy...with the name JEAN. Must be French?) was given the usual 5-day "administrative holiday" while this crap gets sorted out.
Now, I wonder how LONG before this recidivist asswipe is once again BACK on our streets?
My guess...not that long.
And then we'll be back here again with another story about this jerk.
*** Next, about this obscenely HUGE Power-ball jackpot...
LIFE is enough of a lottery many days
When did our society make it better to play lotteries than to WORK for a living in order to acquire wealth beyond avarice? Think about it.
While a few people "play for fun" and only blow a minimal amount (buck a week kinda folks), others will damn near hock the kids for money to play, and that's just not right, in spite of all the cautionary chiding that comes from the media.
We all know they WANT us to fall for this..it's ""good copy" to use the vernacular.
But over ONE BILLION BUCKS if you win? And after all this time, with ALL those people playing, NO ONE HAS? That just doesn't seem right, unless the power-ball numbers were of the "googleplex" variety...LOL.
Would "I" like to win?
Oh, HELL YES...who wouldn't? You'd be a fool NOT to WANT to win, but you have to PLAY first, so I take that parameter out of the equation.
What could a person DO with that much scratch, anyway?
Well, for us, let's just say we'd leave THIS city in a manner befitting of DOC BROWN and his DELOREAN...
BEST way to leave Fort Wayne and it's ghetto
All you'd see from us would be TWO streaks of flame down the street...!
We would definitely UPGRADE the "Fortress".
OR...With that much money, I COULD buy up ALL the properties within a three-mile radius, raze them, put up a nice high (electrical) fence and dare people to enter...LOL.
It also would be great to give to charities...Wounded Warriors, St. Jude, ASPCA...
I'd just pay off all the damn taxes and just take it easy for a spell in a new house far from any madding crowd (and ruthless felons). The guard dogs (and security staff) would see to that.
Be nice to ENJOY life free from fetters like dealing with morons, and having the ONLY shots I hear coming from MY weapons alone. But, I can dream...and such possibilities are endless, are they not?
*** Last back to the snowmobile...the ever-growing lottery gig makes me wonder about how easy it can be for people to become TEMPTED.
These are GOOD Temptations.
Temptations aren't just a damn fine R&B group from years past.
They are many of the things that get many of us in trouble.
No...YOU go first...
And they can take many forms, not the least of which is the possibility of money.
We would love to be debt-free, and in today's world, that is no easy task, because something always seems to break down, someone seems to get sick, things wear out, and people get older.
That's what TIME has to offer us, and money is a quick cure.
But everything has it's price, and MONEY has it's own, funny as that sounds.
We see the evidence of those who pursue fast cash...drug-dealing, prostitution, robbery, burglary, and theft...they ALL come with a price OTHER than that attached to the all-mighty dollar.
This isn't to say we're destined to be "poor", but it does make the case for being more appreciative of what you already HAVE, rather than what you can acquire (through whatever means).
It's often been said that "Slow and steady wins the race", and that is very true about wealth, or what it takes to allow a person to attain wealth.
But wealth is never (and should never be) measured by MATERIAL gain.
There are forms of wealth that simply cannot be purchased, traded, bartered, sold, or stolen.
And that, friends is another post for another day, isn't it?
Take care outside today.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Since everything heretofore has been both informative and colorfully descriptive, I'll skip right to the lottery. At most points, I agree with you. When it gets this high, the word for me changes from "gambling" to "investment." Laurie is buying us a couple now as I type. Last Saturday, our work's second in command posted on FB, "Let's have some fun- what are the first three things you spend your powerball winnings on?" I answered, "Spend? You mean I don't get to lead with,'running naked around the plant?' To which our plant manager replied, 'First I will by a blindfold, since Chris is going to run around the plant naked."

Would I really do that? You betcha! At Christmas we all pitched in our pop can money to by 100 tickets (I hear we won $12), and at that point, the PM said, "I expect that you will all work at least another two months if we hit the jackpot." I said, "Sure, if you don't mind the chronic absenteeism problem I'll develop."

Chris:
"Colorfully descriptive"...LMAO!
Suppose you can call it that.

--Yeah, there IS that aspect to winning THAT much moolah - INVESTMENT.
(let that much money MAKE you more money)...nothing wrong w/ that at all.
With THAT money rolling in, I;d make sure friends and relatives wouldn't have to save for a spell.
--The TOUGH part would be to make sure THEY don't get TAXED for "receipt of a gift".
It's the (former) Treasury Dept Employee in me.
Don't wanna have others FLEECED by the gov't, either.

It's all very "tempting", though...have to admit that.

Thanks for stopping by today to comment.

Stay safe & warm up there, brother.
