Humpday Happenings...
Welcome to the middle of the week, and a rather Spring-like one at that.
That rain held off until today, and I suppose that was okay.
The local temps damn near hit the 70-degree mark yesterday.
Our Hoosierland weather for today will be a close repeat, with cloudy skies for the morning, temps reaching up to the upper 60s, some sunshine near the middle of the day and rain returning later on in the afternoon.
So what say we get ourselves a nice morning drink, and set about seeing what else has been going on elsewhere.
*** First out of the medicine cabinet is our WHO SAID THAT? quote of the week:
"I believe that it is better to tell the truth than a lie. I believe it is better to be free than to be a slave. And I believe it is better to know than to be ignorant."
Now, this was not said by any former slave...just someone who thought that freedom was a lot more important (as do most all of us). It sounds like a pretty good way to walk through life, actually.
So, WHO said that? The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back at the Baltimore Sun...
*** Next up is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
March 9 -
---Today is NATIONAL BARBIE DAY
(in a Barbie world)
---It's also NATIONAL CRABMEAT DAY
(accept no substitutes)
---And, it's NATIONAL MEATBALL DAY
(I SO got that one covered)
---It's NATIONAL GET OVER IT DAY
(must be related to bridge-building?)
--- And it's NATIONAL REGISTERED DIETITIAN NUTRITIONIST DAY
(never heard of 'em...LOL)
---It's also PANIC DAY
What, me panic?
(sounds like a LOT of days...these days...heh)
*** Next up, a bit of a dust-up with a city councilman and an FWPD officer.
Here's the story:
http://wane.com/2016/03/08/police-report-city-councilman-threatened-to-have-officer-fired/
I saw the story last night, read the article and I'm not bothered THAT much by it.
Let's check some things out, however...
Councilman Ensley is listed as the VICTIM of a "domestic"...doesn't sound like he started it.
(yes, there are some crazy women out there giving the crazy men some competition)
And the officer seemed to be a bit on the BLUNT side. He didn't sound like he was trying to defuse the situation, and (to me) seemed to elevate it further by his demeanor on the audio.
Now, if you're going to have a police officer (or more) come to your house, you have to HOPE that his/her previous call was rescuing a cat from a tree kinda thing, or some other deal that got that officer feeling GOOD.
The LAST thing you want is a cop at the door that JUST got done chasing down a perp, or having to pull the service pistol, or ANYTHING that got the old Adrenalin rush going.
Kinda hard to regain "composure" after that sorta stuff. There's no "off" switch.
YOUR job is to remain calm, talk in as nonthreatening a voice as you can muster and hope for the best.
That way, everyone leaves better than they did at the start...got it?
We'll see what pans out with this story...can't see anything inappropriate yet.
I would look into the (prior) behavior of the councilman, and perhaps have the city council president sit him down and talk some things out, if that seat downtown means anything to him.
*** Next up, while we're all being assaulted non-stop as to who TO vote for, a voice of reason comes along and advises us on who NOT to vote for.
Here's the link for the video (because I'm too beat this morning to embed it...lol):
https://www.prageru.com/courses/political-science/who-not-vote
I feel it's probably one of the MOST truthful spots I've seen during this election cycle.
Plus, I've always liked Adam Carolla (since the old comedy The Man Show w/ Jimmy Kimmel)
Not a bad way to spend 4 minutes of your time, and might help YOU decide.
*** Next up, more proof positive that the ACA (otherwise known as "Obamacare") is COSTING everyone a lot more than we were told. Here's the link:
http://www.journalgazette.net/business/Healthfines-ontaxessoaring-11918040
THIS is what you get when you permit the IRS to enforce (read dictate) the "law" regarding being FORCED to get something you didn't need, because the old system of healthcare (although flawed and in need of tweaking) was better and less expensive.
Thank the liberals for this fiasco.
While many who did NOT have any sort of health coverage are NOW covered, we STILL have over 29 MILLION people without it. Where's the "win-win" here, anyway?
The tax system is delivering all those subsidies (insurance) to people who didn't have coverage, but they're being delivered as TAX CREDITS (and we all know how they work).
Suffice it to say that people have to account (at tax time) FOR those subsidies, or face a fine.
SO easy a caveman could do it...rrrrriiiiggghhhhttt.
*** Last back to the outhouse...we've got this "culture of deceit" firmly entrenched in our society these days, and there are too many folks out there who are not even aware of it.
People are lied to (and lie themselves) on a daily basis, and many just take it in stride...WHY?
What's so wrong with doing the RIGHT thing and telling some TRUTH once in a while, hmm?
Granted, that ALL lies are NOT equal, but you get where I'm going.
When did the chronic use of falsehoods become commonplace, and why do we just let it wash over us without batting an eye? No getting around it either, as it's all over the place.
The sad part is that he (or she) that tells the BEST lies (and often enough) gets the brass ring these days. You don't even have to dress up that lie all that much for people to buy into it.
We're seeing that much of what is passing for truth today consists of the lies we hear or read about, if we can claim that a "truthful" lie is better than a deceptive one.
Must be all about "presentation", right?
You cannot take steps to improve things when you're being lied to and led to think that everything's fine and dandy.
If I wanted to be kept in the dark and fed bullshit, I'd become a damn mushroom.
Maybe that's what liberals (and others) want us to be.
I'd much rather deal with the truth of matters, and then formulate a plan to work through whatever difficulties arise from THAT, instead of this freak-laden sideshow we're calling society.
I'd rather have people thinking instead of tweeting.
And, I'd rather have people ask questions (and demand answer) if something doesn't appear right, instead of settling for whatever mediocrity is knocking at the door wanting to come in and sit for a spell.
It's asking a lot from today's world (I know that), but it sure beats the hell out of seeing our nation being flushed down the crapper. I think many of you would agree.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Ha. Love your knock knock joke. Funny. I love Mark Twain in all forms. His quotes are spot on. Great post, Bob. Have a great day. Stay safe up north!

Had a hunch you'd like that "poster"...heh.
(caught my attention right away, and i wasn't even looking for it)
Gotta keep it real out on the street, right?

Twain is one of those people who spans generations with his wit , humor, and truth.
Be nice to have met him (exchange some notes...lol).

We'll keep our heads on swivels and our ammo dry.
Thanks so much for rolling up today and commenting.

You stay safe down there, dear.

Quote: Not Hilary Clinton or Debbie Whatshername-Schultz...

Crab meat AND meatballs? I feel a stomach ache coming on... Thankfully, I ate before I got here, so the temptation ain't so bad.

In desperate need of Get Over It Day... you wouldn't believe the litany of stupid crap I let bug me today. Not pleased with myself...

Lessee... Ensley was with an alcoholic girlfriend (his words) and her daughter in a furniture-less home owned by State Rep and supporter Bob Morris ("Hey, just because I don't buy the cookies...") . I sense party house for the somewhat privileged... wonder who Morris takes there? And the cop didn't seem that non-confrontational to me either- and his spelling is HORRIBLE. But he was smart enough to cross his t's with the FWPD afterwards.

Methinks Sigmund was full of Obama on that one- but where can you go for answers when you sell fallen man and ignored God out of your equation? However, YOU I agree with. I do not understand how these people with their "floating truth" can live with themselves. Maybe that's another lie.

Chris:
--Wifey guessed the quote - blew me away!
--Crabmeat AND meatballs...I know. Whatta combo! (pass the Alka-Selzter)
--I feel as long as you don't go all homicidal, you're ahead of the game (and other people are VERY fortunate to be still breathing...lol)
--The whole house thing is what puzzles me.
Something kinda ODD there. I knew cops who would get all RAMBO with people because they had something to prove to others, including themselves.
I just try to cheese ANY of them off. You dunno who you get when they "drop by".
(like the 5 FWPD cars that showed up over a LASER I beamed at a loud-ass (who was later busted by the feds for dealing drugs).
I was never rousted or brow-beaten.
--I saw the Freud quote a bit differently, but I do see where you're coming from.
I was looking at people who embrace instinct AND culture while ignoring civility and morality, which should be the basis FOR their instincts AND their culture. I think too much...LOL.

Hey, thanks for stopping by to comment.

Stay safe & dry up there, brother.
