Tuesday Tidbits...
Finally, a break from all those 80+ degree days here in the Heartland.
But those of you who LOVE hot weather shouldn't fret, because this weekend, we're headed for the 90 degree range. You know I won't be going out in that crap.
Something about feeling like I'm going to spontaneously combust.
Our Hoosierland weather for today sees us with temps only going into the mid-60s range (suits me), with partly cloudy skies, which will increase a bit over the course of the day as we see another "chance" of a shower.
So, let's get that morning drink poured and parked close by as we see what has been going on elsewhere...
*** First out of the manure pile is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
June 7 -
---Today is NATIONAL CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM DAY
(got that one covered...with Hershey's syrup and cool whip...lol)
---And, it's NATIONAL VCR DAY
(good luck finding one that still works. Need to get my beta machine fixed some day)
And that's all she wrote on those.
*** Next up, and since it's Tuesday, it's time to bring you ALL those shots fired and armed robbery calls the media doesn't want you to learn about, because they're too busy diverting our attention with this political freakshow.

FIREWORKS CALLS 5/30 - 6/5

MAY 30 -
16F071956 18:35:36 44FW 800 STATE BLVD W

About the fireworks...we've heard them almost every night since before Memorial Day, and yet, not ONE...SINGLE...REPORT to the FWPD for anything remotely close to MY neck o' the woods...amazing.
Maybe I should start calling them in EVERY night?
*** Next, and speaking OF fireworks, it appears that shopping (or eating) in Fort Wayne has it's own issues now. Here's the story link:
http://wane.com/2016/06/06/fireworks-set-of-inside-glenbrook-mall/
Some M-80 style firecrackers were set off near the food court at Glenbrook Mall around 1830 hrs last evening.
Sure to make digesting food SO much better...NOT!
Patrons called police thinking it was gunshots (and sooner than we think, it just might be).
Naturally, no one has been arrested.
*** Next up, a little more about the 35 officers from the FWPD being sent to "help" the Cleveland police at the RNC around the 18th of the month. Here's the story link:
http://wane.com/2016/06/06/fwpd-sending-officers-to-secure-republican-national-convention/
Captain Berning w/ "tools of the (riot) trade"
I met Scott Berning when he was a mere Sgt. with the FWPD. He was the one who took me on that tour of the Public Safety Academy back in the mid 2000s. He's put on a few pounds and some captain's bars since we met, but he still knows his stuff.
I do find this "need" to send THAT many officers a bit much, considering the liability factor involved in another jurisdiction.
It won't be for that long, and maybe we'll get by (here) without any further violent crime (Yeah, I still like to dream).
*** Next up, our tap water STILL smells and tastes "less than desirable", and here's the story link:
http://wane.com/2016/06/06/fort-wayne-residents-still-concerned-about-water-quality/
What are you NOT telling us?
The people in the video are right, and I know that aside from my coffee, I am barely drinking anything out of the tap.
Even ice cubes make your soda taste weird, and believe me, I KNOW my sodas!
What we're being told is there is some "organic materials"...((crickets))
WHAT kind of organic materials? Some can cause problems like amoeba. Is it algae? That's also organic (last time I checked)
Aren't we mature enough to handle TRUTH these days? And if this problem baffles the local water plant, then maybe we should seek help from elsewhere. But stop with the dodging the issue and be up front with WHAT is really going on.
*** Next, a very good piece in today's OP-ED section about a little thing we call FREEDOM.
Here's the link:
http://www.journalgazette.net/opinion/columns/The-formula-for-Freedom--13441054
The writer makes some good sense. Using a mathematical formula to determine the LEVEL of (loss or increase of) freedom that any program we put in place sounds logical.
This stems from Rep.Todd Rokita's call to look into the free school lunch program.
Christer Watson, author of the piece says : "The more government programs grow in size, the less free we are."
Sounds like someone who "gets it" to me.
This is a really good read, and allows us the opportunity to make a better choice when it comes to allowing government to grow even bigger than it has already.
*** Next up, a related story about the free lunch program, which began this past Monday at SEVENTY locations in JUST Allen County.
Here's the story link:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/schools/Children-fed-free-lunches-13443257
I'm sorry, but I just HAVE to ask the age-old question here: "WHY?"
We are the most prosperous nation and have "poor" people better off than non-poor folks in OTHER nations.
Why do we even do this? Isn't "charity" the venue of the CHURCH, anyway?
Think of it, a $11 BIL program (from an Indiana state budget of $32 BIL (total) just for school lunch giveaways.
((---History brief - Anyone remember when Bobby Seale, Huey Newton and the Black Panher Party were feeding people for free in the inner cities back in the 70s? What a scam that turned out to be.))
I can't believe that with ALL the money (literally TRILLIONS OF TAXPAYER BUCKS) dumped into free food programs that we have NOT reduced poverty at all, but we have managed to INCREASE the poverty level to $40K a year (family of four).
If you follow the flawed "logic" behind such BS, whenever you RAISE the poverty LEVEL, you will inevitably ADD a lot more people TO the roll.
My father used to make $40K a year, busting his ass, and we were nowhere close to the real poverty level - we were just lower middle working class, as was damn near everyone else in our area.
Musta been that WORKING thing that kept us from feigning poverty?
*** Next, and just in time for swimsuit season...cases of syphilis are on the RISE.
Here's the story link:
http://wane.com/2016/06/06/syphilis-cases-on-the-rise-in-indiana/
Sure hope none of (all) those RAPE cases in the ghettohood have been a contributing factor there.
You know how young black men LOVE to drop their drawers (and how some of them walk around half-way there). I thought this wasn't an issue any longer with all the FREE protection available?
Yeah, a SEVENTY PERCENT Increase between 2014 and 2015...that's just insane.
Guess gonorrhea isn't that far behind?
The CDC recommends that those testing positive for syphilis also get tested for HIV (hey, good idea).
*** Next up, had to chase the neighbor's "kids" from hanging out in front of the "Fortress" yesterday. And I utilized the assistance of the FWPD to do so.
I called in, reporting LOITERING by 5 kids (milling about, running into the street, being loud...what else), and the dispatcher was one of those "I'd rather be someplace else" kinda people and I had trouble making her UNDERSTAND what loitering was. She (thankfully) handed me off to another person (named Alex) who DID get what I was chasing after, and took down all the information.
Within 10 minutes, a FWPD car rolls up and talks to the kids. They moved along, as they should, and the police car didn't immediately leave the area, either. He pulled onto the side street and sat for another 15 minutes (with the kids looking to see if he was still there...sneaky buggers).
I get tired of these kids thinking the WHOLE neighborhood is their personal playground, and that everyone's property is their own.
It's called PRIVATE property for a reason, you shitheads.
You want to pay the taxes and utilities for us, then you CAN play here. Otherwise, go anywhere else and be annoying.
*** Last back to the gravel pit...I'm sorry, but times and people HAVE changed since I was growing up.
Zig also "gets it".
We've become an over-permissive society, and that's not a good thing.
When we lose such things as boundaries...and MUTUAL respect...and civil behavior, we nudge ourselves closer to anarchy, and that doesn't have an age bracket, and is also no respecter of race or religion.
When parents abrogate their responsibilities AS a parent to the state (or anyone else) they just (imho) do not deserve to keep those kids. The children belong in a much better environment, where they can grow as individuals and learn what it's like to thrive in a proper atmosphere, rather than be chased away by others annoyed at their wild antics and disrespectful behaviors.
I know that worked with MY generation, and generations before that.
And, it didn't make much nevermind what your skin color was...everyone was respected and treated the same.
We didn't fall over one another touting diversity by shoving it in one another's faces. We KNEW better.
And, we knew we were all diverse in our own way without the prodding of our government.
We also learned early on, that everything costs something, and that, aside from the air we were breathing, little was actually "free".
We worked for what we needed, and if we wanted something, we SAVED for it...or did without.
Yes, we did okay back then, and we can do the same today, IF we try.
We may not always succeed, but let no one say we were never worthy of the attempt, hmm?
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Those were M80s in Glenbrook? What idiot sets those damn things off INSIDE? Prolly the same clowns that egged our neighborhood saturday night. Luckily, they only managed to hit the ground because of Isaac Newton.

I think ours is actually a bit better. But I grew up with sulphur water, so I'm hardly an expert on what tastes good or not.

I think you ought to do a weekly "they get it" feature. Maybe send the winner a notice that they are receiving welcome non-cash recognition. Could become a thing...

While I was reading the list of shots fired and armed robberies from May 30 to June 5, I saw South Anthony Blvd mentioned a few times. It made me wonder did that Lifeline Data Center open yet? have they even been working on the former Target building? and I am certainly ready for that 90 degree weather this weekend! it is so cold out right now, I am ready for swimsuit weather, love the water!

---You called it...some (effin) IDIOT!!!
As for those eggs - Physics can be a real bitch, too...lol.
---I read where there WAS an algae bloom along the Maumme out near Defiance, Ohio.
Maybe some of them swam the WRONG way?
---Now there's a good idea...might have to dig out some NO-PRIZES (just like Marvel used to do with those who sent letters in to the editors - wow, that was a LONG time ago, too).
Hey, thanks for stopping on by to comment.

Stay safe up there, brother.

---No, I have seen no evidence of that place reopening as that data center. Still vacant (but sold).
City Council was dealing with tax abatements last month, I believe for the nearly two dozen people who will work there eventually.
(wait until they get a load of the area's crime)

S. Anthony is becoming a real pit. A far cry from when we first moved here in 1997. We used to have REAL places to shop along there, and even a MALL (even if half of it's tenants had left).

I guess this is what the city "calls" progress?

Thanks much for taking the time to drop by and comment.

Do stay safe out there.
