Okay, so we didn't get any rain yesterday...we are supposed to get some today, so they say.
That's fine by me. I'm just the "messenger" here.
Welcome to the middle of the week...again.
Our Hoosierland forecast will see us with partly sunny skies to start off, with increasing clouds as the day goes on. That chance of rain comes along by the afternoon, and continues into tonight.
The temps today will reach into the mid-70s, and we've some winds breezing through.
Now, let's get ourselves that morning drink as we take a look at what else has been going on...
*** First off of the desk is our WHO SAID THAT? quote of the week:
"There is something terribly wrong with a culture inebriated by noise and gregariousness."
Man, if that doesn't hit the nail on the head...I don't know what does.
Sounds exactly what much of our society thrives upon today.
So, WHO said that?
The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back at the University of Geneva...
*** Next up, time for the "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
OCTOBER 12 -
---Today is NATIONAL FREETHOUGHT DAY
(I could see this going away in the near future if we're not careful)
---It's also NATIONAL FARMER'S DAY
(another group that is slowly dwindling)
---It's NATIONAL GUMBO DAY
(if you haven't tried it...you should)
---It's NATIONAL TAKE YOUR PARENTS TO LUNCH DAY
(mine passed a while back, so that is NOT going to happen)
---It's also NATIONAL FOSSIL DAY
(great, something else to make me feel my age...lol)
---It's NATIONAL EMERGENCY NURSE'S DAY
(helping to save lives on a daily basis)
---It's also NATIONAL BRING YOUR TEDDY BEAR TO SCHOOL/WORK DAY
(yeah, that's not gonna happen for me either)
---And, it's NATIONAL STOP BULLYING DAY
(don't tell me...tell those bullies)
Whew, that felt more like a weekend than a Wednesday.
*** Next, Fort Wayne city councilman Jason Arp seems to be the only person doing any REAL work these days.
He has proposed amending the current ordinance regarding carrying guns in public parks. Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/Allowing-guns-in-parks-proposed-15727097
Now, to me, this should not present any problems, because we already know the criminals don't follow the laws, and many felons ALREADY carry guns all over the city, as evidenced by recent shootings and such.
It's interesting to note the other "banned items" from parks, and to quote the story:
(( “No person shall be allowed to carry firearms; to molest, hunt, harm, frighten, kill, trap, pursue, chase, tease, shoot or throw objects at or to set snares for any wildlife, animals, birds, reptiles and fish within the limits of any park or within 500 feet thereof except with written permission of the Department. Fireworks, firearms, ‘BB’ guns, slingshots, pea shooters, blow guns and paint ball guns are prohibited in all park areas unless permission has been obtained from the Department. No person is permitted to practice archery or use a bow and arrow or crossbow or other similar device in any park,” city code Section 97.62 currently states. ))
It's called CONSTITUTIONAL carry. |
Sorry, I already carry a (loaded and charged) BB gun whenever I leave our property, until that state house bill that allows a person to carry WITHOUT a permit passes. Then, I'll carry a pistol away from our "Fortress". I already carry one whenever I;m outside. Wouldn't even have to do THAT if the natives in the area weren't so damn restless and obeyed the laws. I just like to not be caught with "with my drawers down", if you get my drift.
*** Next, leave it to the Brits to find a cause for concern when it applies to our health. Here's the story:
https://www.theguardian.com/science/2016/oct/10/risk-heart-attack-exercising-angry
Imagine that...exercising (exertion) while ANGRY can triple the risk of a heart attack.
Who the hell knew?
Yeah, whenever I get PO'ed (which in this neighborhood is NOT hard to do), the first thing I seek is EXERCISE.
MY kind of "exercise". |
*** Next up, more proof that technology is running US, and not the other way around.
Overwhelming is an understatement. |
http://www.journalgazette.net/business/Smartphones-become-part-of-life-15729526
Yep, those damnable "smartphones" are making our lives apparently unlivable WITHOUT them.
Out for a nice family dinner? |
And, according to the article, some people simply cannot turn these devices off.
Wow, talk about a dependency. Maybe they should market them this way:
"Smartphones - the NEW tobacco."
Forty-three percent of the world's people use a smartphone (well, I'm still in the majority for the time being).
People also check Facebook SO regularly, the company no longer measures traffic on a monthly basis (probably by the hour...lol). Sorry, I don't do Facebook, either.
This is a scary premise to be SO damn needy when it comes to these phones, and not really using them for the purpose of CALLING people. It could all go away with an outage or an EMP...THEN what do you do?
*** Next, Time for another page from "The Hobo Chronicles"...
"I roam around and round and round..." |
"I'm back, I;m cute...feed me." |
While I was mowing the back yard yesterday, he watched me from the garden, and then after I was finished, he went roaming about the area. Didn't even show up for his late afternoon meal, but he did return in time to greet Wifey as she returned from school/work.
Best end to the day - a full tummy. |
*** Last back to the foor locker...I spoke yesterday about our AMERICAN culture.
And I asked where it had gone. I honestly don't know, but I do know we began to lose it during those tumultuous counter-culture 60s.
In the pursuit of "freedom", and the manners in which our society was "urged" into extending them further, we negated those values and principles we used to embrace. Wasn't it said by Ben Franklin that EVERYTHING should be in MODERATION, and NOTHING to EXCESS?
Yes, that pertains to our freedoms as well. Now, I;m not calling for LESS freedom, but rather freedom as defined as being beneficial to our GROWTH as a society, and as a nation.
What we have today, will ALL the allowances offered us, serve little purpose but to divide us, to disable us, and to diminish us. Think about it.
Smartphones that have become all but addictive. Social media that allows bullying to take on a new meaning.
Where once we had words and dialogues that fostered creative thinking and real debate, we have a bastardized quasi-language that allows us to demean one another in less that 140 characters.
We think we're masters of our own technology, but the truth is, we are becoming servants TO that technology. It's not even a symbiotic relationship.
And the price required to "play" is becoming too steep.
Still, as long as we're all "entertained" sufficiently with whatever sensationalistic pablum is being forced down our throats, the need to think for ourselves will continue to fall by the wayside.
And those who promote such things for their own wealth and power, with whatever agenda they have in mind (for us) will sit back and laugh as our nation becomes the antithesis of what it was founded upon.
THAT should never come to pass.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Bob...are you looking at the right weather site? It's supposed to be sunny all weekend, reaching a high of possible 80 on Saturday. Next week its supposed to cool off but still be in the low 70s. Rain showers possible but not probable until next week. This is the lesson. You can't trust any weather people. They lie for a living.
Have a great day!
Momma Fargo:
---That forecast is JUST for today (at least that's what the people on 21-ALIVE said).
Not my fault...lol
Yeah, being a weather person means you can be WRONG at least 50% of the time...and STILL get paid for it, right?
Thanks for rolling up today.
You stay safe down there, Kiddo.
I don't know who said that, but it sounds like he read my Crab Nebula post, lol!
Free thought? Already gone. The phrase Free Thinker has been appropriated by those who won't free themselves to think about God and shout you down if you do.
Fossil day... funny, I grabbed a couple of handfuls of trail stones this afternoon to look!
You mean, I have to get PISSED first? Who knew?
Phones: You, me, and Jack from Consumer Cellular...
Chris:
He's another "newbie" (can't say if he DID read it, but I thought it worked).
---That's it in a nutshell, sad to say.
---I may be as old as dirt, but not older...lol
---The Three Amigos...I like that.
Gonna be fun for a while - the older (XP) 'puter crapped out...won't boot. Might be a pwr sup or motherboard.
Could even be the CMOS battery.
Gotta TRY and do the blog on the new system, but NO PICTURES to upload, because the software for my cameras is on the older system and may not be compatible with WIN 10 (if I can find the CD-ROM).
We'll take this one REAL slow.
Thanks for stopping by today.
Stay safe (and dry) up there, brother.
