Welcome to what we're being told will be a soggy middle of the week.
Starting to spit rain out there already.
Tonight we get more rain, but for now, not so much.
Our Hoosierland weather for today finds us with mostly cloudy skies, breezy conditions, some showers, and an expected high of around 55 degrees. It can always be worse, right?
So, let's get that morning drink of choice and see what is going on elsewhere...
*** First out of the jewelry box, it's our WHO SAID THAT? quote:
“As anyone who has ever been around a cat for any length of time well knows cats have enormous patience with the limitations of the human kind.”
So who do you think said that, hmm?
The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back at the Saturday Evening Post...
*** Next up, it's time to see "What the hell's been going on, Bob?"
OCTOBER 26 -
---Today is the National Day of the Deployed (and we wish them all well).
It's National Mule Day (I can somehow relate to this...must be my stubborn streak)
It's also National Pumpkin Day (no surprise there).
And it's National Mincemeat Day
(not to be confused with the WW2 "Operation Mincemeat", which is a fascinating story)
*** Next up, the Indians blanked the Cubs last night (6-0)...and I watched some of the game..actually more baseball than I've watched in years...not bad.
Corey Kluber, pitcher for the Indians was outstanding on the mound, and broke a World Series record by striking out 8 batters in the first 3 innings.
Oh, and let's mention that he used to play for the FORT WAYNE WIZARDS (pre Tin Caps, when minor league baseball here was a lot more "intimate").
Gonna be an interesting series, that's for sure.
*** Next, more stupid from our own "locals":
---Okay, so here's one way NOT to park along S. Clinton St.:

Maybe the SUV was shot by a walk-by pedestrian? |
The driver of the SUV (lying on it's side) is believed to have been impaired via alcohol.
(Well, most of the natives down here don't really have much ELSE to do all day or night, do they? None of these lazy-ass mooks work, and the few that do usually are somewhat "government-sponsored" anyway.
---And we have a nice drug bust that nets 8 (is enough?) for messing with spice:

Welcome to the street called HIGH. |
The link has the names and charges...play along and see if YOU know any on the list.
*** Next, in case you were wondering about voter fraud (again) during this year's election freakshow, wonder no longer:
http://wane.com/2016/10/25/voter-group-says-dead-people-likely-registered/
The Dems Strike again. |
Yes, dead lives DO matter. |
Doesn't matter if you're deceased these days...you can STILL vote (and often, too).
*** Next up, and speaking of the deceased, it's already been a week, since Rassie left our lives.
Sorry, but twenty years is a long time in anyone's book, and time, being the precious commodity we all know it to be, will not easily allow such a passage to ever go unforgotten.
I can see that the holiday season is not something I'm really looking forward to, at least not THIS year.
Too many "empty chairs" about the house these days, or in the case of Christmas, empty stockings.
Since Penelope left in 2013, we've still put her stocking up...call it a nice habit of remembrance. After 17 years, you do such things without thinking.
It's the same way when I wake up each morning...cats make sure they get YOU on a "schedule"...and so it was with our cats. They were fed (religiously) around 0540 hrs every morning.
Why they chose that time, I will never know.
Wifey used to have to get up that early when the schools were on a different schedule, and the cats took to that, I suppose. Well, guess who else had to get in line with that? Yep...me.
Wasn't really a chore, just something i got used to doing.
Not to mention, if I tried to bag another few minutes of sleep, the meows from the furry duo would not allow that.
Now, with Penny and Rassie gone, I startle myself awake, thinking I missed their feeding time...silly, huh?
Well, beats the blare from some clock alarm...
*** Last back to the junk drawer...part of any person's life is getting to know grief.
You just cannot avoid it, no matter how hard you try.
And, as you get older, the frequency of times that you find yourself grieving increases.
That's just the way life is, but that never makes any of those instances easier to bear.
There are FIVE stages of grief, for those of you not familiar with them:
Denial, anger, depression, bargaining and acceptance.
I can honestly say I usually do NOT follow the order that is typically laid out.
I often find myself even skipping a stage now and then, and that's dependent upon the particular circumstance.
Notice that the last stage is "acceptance"...it doesn't mean that grief goes away. It never has.
We just come to know that we will always have it with us as long as we live.
How well we are able to accept the losses in life determines our course as we move forward as best we can under the conditions. Many times, it's a slow, belabored course, and our being able to move in a forward direction is barely perceptible, even to ourselves.
Love and compassion will do that to people, and as I stated...none of us are totally immune.
For, if we never really love, and have not the capacity to express compassion, we will not grieve.
Sure, it's painful, and it damn well hurts, but it's always in direct proportion to the feelings we had for whatever or whoever caused us to grieve in the first place.
And, any person who lacks the morality to know and express these feelings, can indeed become a lost soul. This is also by choice.
May none of us ever become that wrapped up in life, that we forget how to LIVE.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Bob. Your post is a little short today. What gives? Love the kitty. HIGH street is fitting? Yikes. And how about that election. Soon to be over. Then what? What will we say for the next 4 years?
Momma Fargo:
You must have missed the posts where I mentioned that our 20-yr old male cat Rassie passed away a week ago...and then our little community cat Hobo went missing last Friday.
We no longer have any pets around the "Fortress".
(See...'ya miss a little, 'ya miss a LOT, right?)
Haven't felt like making my posts as long as a result. It's a sadness thing.
Thanks for rolling up, though.
Always good to see 'ya.
Stay safe down there, Kiddo.
Without going into a "Joe Buck" moment here, that game was indeed great! I learned on my own later that the last time the Cubs won the WS (1908), they had to play an after-the-season rainout make up with the Giants to get in... and when the Tribe last won, (1948), they ALSO had to play an extra game, because the Red Sox won their last 5 to force a tie. The Indians won that game in Boston, and had to stay put because the WS openned in Boston against the "Spahn and Sain and pray for rain" Braves!
Was that flip on the usual curve, or did they find a different way to blow their Allstate safe driver reward?
High Street has always had a rep for such shenanigans. "No surprises there," was my reaction this AM.
The schedule thing is NOT silly. Not one bit.
Chris:
---Glad to know you also liked last night's game.
Good to see some honest baseball...no drama that I noticed, just good ball playing.
---I think they DID find a new way...leave it to the STUPID among us, right?
---High St. sure lives up to it's name. Can't say the same for OUR street's name.
---Yeah, after 20 years of being "trained", I have to say our cats did THEIR job marvelously.
(had me down pat in a couple weeks, in fact...the rest was icing on their Fancy Feast...lol).
Hey, thanks for stopping by today to comment.
Much appreciated.
You all stay safe up there, brother.
