Humpday Happenings...
Welcome to the middle of this year's first full week, and it seems like yesteray's rather nasty-ass weather is behind us.
Can the next bout be far away?
I will say that FWCS got lucky by not closing schools...wonder how that luck will fare the rest of the year? Can'r roll 7-11 all the time (but they WILL try).
Our Hoosierland weather for today sees us calming down a tad, with partly sunny skies, milder winds, some rain showers this afternoon (maybe some thunder tossed in), and a high today of around 53 degrees, but don't worry, we'll be back into winter weather soon enough.
So, let's get that morning drink poured and parked close by, as we see what's been going on elsewhere...
*** First out of the amber waves of grain is our WHO SAID THAT? quote for the week:
"The tragedy of life is often not in our failure, but rather in our complacency; not in our doing too much, but rather in our doing too little; not in our living above our ability, but rather in our living below our capacities."
This has got to be one of the most simple, and yet profound quotes I've come across of late, and not from anyone I would have imagined. The truth in it speaks volumes, especially in times when the attention span of average people can be measured in mere minutes (if not seconds), thanks to technologies.
So, WHO said that? The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back at Morehouse College...
*** Next, we bring you our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
JANUARY 11 -
---Today is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day
(some assholes just cannot pout the whole owning other people thing behind them)
---It's National Milk Day
(make mine chocolate...or maybe strawberry)
---And it's National Step in a Puddle and Splash Your Friends Day
(Picked a good day for it - just make sure YOU wear galoshes first)
*** Next up, it looks like we may have our FIRST homicide of this year.
Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/Police-investigating-suspicious-death-at-inn-17217825
Now, I'm also going to say that the victim was black, and not just because the law of averages is in play.
Eric Antoine Hearn is the name of the victim, and he was 33 years old, and lived at 1714 Edsall Ave. (I took the liberty of looking up his court records)
He has a fairly long rap sheet going back to 2001, with a LOT of arrests for drugs (possession and dealing).
Now, all we have to do is wait for everyone else to catch up to what I stated here (and what you read here first), right?
So, let's say it was another drug deal gone bad to some degree and call it done.
*** Next, the final Presidential Drinking Game of the Obummer regime is now history.
"...urp...works for me."
And, as I posted in the N-S comments, I feel for those who took a shot or slurp every time our outgoing leader used the word "I".
(probably drunk under the table in five minutes...lol)
I caught the Cliffs Notes version online, and not one thing was mentioned about all the clusterf*cks this guy created.
Then again, with great narcissism comes great deniability (with apologies to Spiderman)
*** Next up, looks like we might finally get a death sentence carried out in America.
Here's the link:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/us/Roof-ordered-put-to-death-17217765
Dylan Roof has been ordered put to death...about damn time, too.
This psychopathic piece of shit has NO place in a civil society (at least not alive under any condition).
The sooner you off his ass...the better (imho).
*** Next, Orlando police are still looking for the black male who shot and killed a female officer.
Here's the link:
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/breaking-news/os-orlando-police-shooting-manhunt-markeith-loyd-20170110-story.html
When you hear the name, you just KNOW the ethnicity.
Plus, he had already shot his pregnant girlfriend to death just last month, and that's another sign of a disturbed black male mind. Court records show decades of criminal activity, including cocaine trafficking, battery on a corrections officer and domestic violence charges. Sounds like a person that needs to be REMOVED from society...by any means necessary.
*** Next up, let's exit all this nasty stuff and zero in on "Kitten Corner"...
"Top o' the world, Ma...I mean Daddy."
You'd think that close to two months, the "kids" would have had their share of "exploration"....not a chance. Violet has found the "perch".
They keep finding new stuff around the house. Thankfully, not in the basement.
Gallifrey got down there once and it was no fun corralling him and finally picking him up to escort his furry butt back upstairs.Too many places they need not get into down there for my liking.
"I have nothing to do with where she's at."
Penny and Rassie never really ventured down there. If I left the door open, they'd come down a couple steps and sit there, waiting for me. Not THESE two. They want to FOLLOW...a lot.
That's not really a bad thing, as far as bonding goes, but it does warrant having your head on a swivel INDOORS...heh.
"Just lemme sleep it all off."
I've almost stepped on them more than a few times, and it's not like I'm looking to do it...they just get under foot so quickly.
So, you learn to plan ahead, when it comes to foot placement, and always around "din-din" time.
But, the affection and their general demeanor is worth the price.
*** Last back to the fruited plain... our society has great potential...always has.
A comfortable trap.
But, it also gets away from itself all too easily and too often.
People are more concerned with what new Monopoly playing piece should come out, rather than figuring out how to make breakfast for their children, or why water rates (in New Haven, Indiana), are jumping 50% in the next two years.
Our priorities have become skewed, and much of it is due to our willingness to follow rather than lead.
Generally-speaking, we tend to focus on the mundane, while what's (really) important is relegated to the back burner, in the (false) hope that some else will see to it.
Our bloated federal government is always there to "save the day", and that's not really a good thing, considering the overreach that has extended from our nation's capital.
But, people get real comfortable with such things, and quite readily, too. And, don't try to tell them otherwise.
Now, if all this is supposed to "free up" our lives, so we can pursue better goals...it's not working out that way.
And, it never will.
When it comes down to brass tacks, WE are the ones who must decide how best to progress not just in our own lives, but as a society, and the best way to do that is involvement - getting the know the "lay of the land", being bold in seeking the truth to things that matter, and not shirking our responsibilities to ourselves and those who may depend upon us.
It's not rocket science, and certainly no magic cure, but it is something we all need to consider, IF we are the truly progress with the intent of becoming better people...and a better nation.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

It surprised me that with all the soaked ground and wind, the woods came out basically unscathed.

You find a death in a hotel/motel, your prognostication is 99% right.

The speech: I read where he mentioned himself 75 times. I also heard Rush's "2 1/2 minute" condensing attempt today, and I'm guessing it was pretty faithful.

Uncle Ben is now Uncle Barack? Ooooooooooh...

Can't we just have Dylan and Loyd share the same "Roof"? No one's coming out alive in THAT one...

So, is Gal's expression "I'm being pensive" or "I admit nothing!"?

Chris:
---Well, that's good to hear. I would have thought with all the "gardening" the city has done, something would suffer (domino effect).
---Like I said, the court records helped...lol.
One LESS drug dealer for our city.
---Yeah...SEVENTY-FIVE trimes...no drinking game is worth the risk of alcohol poisoning...heh.
Rush's spot was hilarious.
---if Barry shows up on ANY box of food, I stop buying it.
---That's a perfect example of the kinda "two-fer" that BENEFITS society en masse.
---YES...to both...HA!

Hey, thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Stay safe (and hold onto yer hat) up there, brother.
