Humpday Happenings...
Wow, is it Wednesday already? And, do we actually get a break from the rain today?
The answers to those questions are "yes" and "I think so...maybe".
Our Hoosierland weather brings us partly sunny skies to start, with increasing clouds as the day progresses (uh, oh), and the chance of rain later into this evening and continuing overnights (knew it was too good to last). Highs today will top out around the upper 50s.
If you see the sun today, you're either fortunate OR flying at around 30,000 feet.
With that said, let's get that morning drink poured as we take a look at what's been going on elsewhere...
*** First off of the rain barrel is our WHO SAID THAT? quote fo the week:
"The paradox of education is precisely this - that as one begins to become conscious, one begins to examine the society in which he is being educated."
You really have to watch those paradoxes, especially if you're a Time Lord...lol.
But the gist of the quote is VERY true in so many ways.
And, it's something we all go through in life. I'm still examining our society every day. So, who said that? The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back in "Giovanni's Room"....
*** Next up, time for our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
MAY 3 -
---It's National Chocolate Custard Day
(chocolate? Say no more)
---it's National Garden Meditation Day
(we're not there yet, but working on it)
---It's National Lumpy Rug Day.
(our City Hall's got a BIG one with all the "stuff" they sweep under it)
---It's National Paranormal Day
(in our part of the ghettohood, it's ghostly in it's own way)
---It's National Raspberry Popover Day
(still figuring out the difference between POPover and TURNover)
---It's National SAN Architect Day
(it is a virtual thing)
---It's National Specially-Abled Pets Day
(he's still a good boy!)
---It's National Textiles Day
(protecting us from unwanted nudity for a VERY long time)
---It's National Two-Different Colored Shoes Day
(this is just too damn stupid - the picture shows different TYPES as well)
*** Next, there is a good column in today's J-G opinion page. Here's the link:
http://www.journalgazette.net/opinion/columns/20170503/hidden-cost
Tom Cain, a member of Friends of the Parks of Allen County would seem to "get it".
He states, in no small way the impact that Ivy Tech would have, should it be permitted to place sports venues within the confines of the park.
Maybe it's about time this city and county put aside all the sports crap and focused on building the minds and souls of people FIRST...for a change. We used to be called The City of Churches once.
Besides, a fit body without a fit mind isn't worth a damn, is it?
*** Next, it looks like one school corporation wants NEW i pads. Here's that story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/schools/20170503/eacs-ponders-buying-new-ipads
So, EACS has a bunch of i pads they bought 5 years ago...and now they're finding out the battery life isn't all it's cracked up to be...whatta surprise.
They should have known that ANY rechargeable battery can ONLY be recharged a FINITE number of times before it loses the capacity to HOLD the same charge as when it was brand new.
The CMOS battery in every computer (runs internal clock) has about a 5-year lifespan...ditto for a regular 12V car battery. Same can be said for battery-powered tools.
And that's why I shun devices like battery operated lawn mowers and vehicles.
Sooner or later, you've GOT to change the batteries or battery pack...and that ain't cheap.
Hell, solar lights that use rechargeable batteries only last so long, before the battery won't run the LED light overnight...(fat lot of good that does when you want someplace lit after the sun goes down).
These folks should be more aware of the limits of the technology, if they're going to chase after it.
*** Next, this story proves that STUPID knows no heights, depths. or boundaries.
Here's the link:
http://www.indystar.com/story/news/crime/2017/05/02/why-easter-cards-were-rejected-indiana-prisons-year/101154932/
Neither rain, nor snow, nor drugs...
Aww...no Easter cards for prison inmates? How cruel...call out the ACLU and sue someone!
Not so fast, boy-o. Seems there was a very GOOD reason why the cards (and now letters) were banned.
They were laced with the synthetic drug K2 (a form of spice).
This causes psychotic behavior and leads to more violent prisoners, don'cha know.
And drug dogs can't seem to get a "hit" on the offending concoction.
Inmates were tearing up the cards/letters, and then smoking them.
I'm surprised they weren't made out of HEMP...lol. Guess they've tried that already.
This is just plain ridiculous.
*** Next up, let's drop by "Kitten Corner" and see what's going on there...
"I think I needz a rest from my napz".
The kids spent a lot of the day doing what cats do best (besides eat)...napping.
The rain doesn't bother them one bit (wait until their bones get to my age...lol).
"Who's that out on the patio?"
They did find some time to watch our visiting cat, though.
Midnight came around the usual time in the afternoon, and I fed him (as usual).
This time, I tried something different.
I wondered if he'd get on the patio table to eat. Well, that was no problem at all for this guy.
He happily accommodated and ate his fill there.
After an hour, he went wherever he goes between visits, and our cats came in and hung with me for a while.
Thankfully, their attention span is such where the novelty of this other cat wears off soon enough. That's fine by me.
*** Last back the the downspouts...the ingenuity of humanity never ceases to amaze me.
Ingenuity = "Clockwork" people?
It's like that story about the drug-laced correspondence,
People are incarcerated for a REASON...like breaking the laws of the land.
They obviously cannot control their own behavior...that's WHY we have laws in the first place - not for those who have learned to control themselves, but for those who cannot (or will not).
This is again all dictated by our CHOICES in life.
Never saw or heard of anyone jailed because of all the GOOD choices they made in life...have you?
When society stops basing it's actions upon moral principles, you wind up with an immoral society...simple as that.
And that moral basis has to be founded somewhere in a religious belief...or faith in an almighty being.
Lose that, and you wind up in a very sorry state of affairs.
But, if you embrace that, you can cure a lot of today's societal ills, and that's a fact.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

With you on anything chocolate!

"Lumpy Rug Day"? Really?

"still figuring out the difference between POPover and TURNover"... Popovers flip like a corn kernel, Turnovers are gently handled by the cook, lol!

I have virtually no idea what a SAN architect is...

IVY Tech... despite my sports background, good call.

"These folks should be more aware of the limits of the technology, if they're going to chase after it." The Law of Unintended Consequences strikes once more...

Easter cards- you expect anything less from people who would stick a baggie up their butt and smoke the contents later?

I was, thinking about your closing, looking at the first two steps of AA last night (application in other, far removed ares BTW). Nice restatement of Step two.

Trying to figure out the M10 again... I got #4, but lost from there...

Chris:
---Hey, chocolate is like a bow tie or fez - COOL!
---Yes, LUMPY rug. Neat, huh?
---SAN = Storage Area Network ('puter stuff...yeah, hadda look that one up myself)
---Well, I think a fit MIND helps develop a fit BODY...usually NOT the other way around...look at a lot of PRO "athletes"...lack o'brains.
---Yes, it DOES...batteries are only as good as the length of time they last. After that, you're pretty much boned. Gimme a CORDED device any day.
---Absolutely NOT, my friend.
---And to think I never attended an AA mtg, or knew anyone that had.
I'll have to look those steps up.
See, I Had this thing about limitations, moderation and self-control growing up.
(sometimes, a little TOO much...heh)

Thanks for dropping on by and commenting today.
(much appreciated).

Stay safe (and dry) up there, brother.
