Tuesday Tidbits...
We dodged any showers that were supposed to come by yesterday.
We'll see if the same holds true today, as conditions are similar. But, it will be cooler
I hear the next rain event is slated for Friday...can hardly wait.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us mostly sunny skies, temp reaching to around 74 degrees, and some light breezes out there with clouds moving in later this afternoon. A good day to catch up on trimming random foliage and  performing other assorted yard work (joy).
That's something our "neighbors" refrain from doing (and get away with it).
Still, there's something to be said for good stewardship, right?
Now, let's get our morning drink to get us prepared for what this day will bring, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First off of the ramparts is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
JUNE 6 -
---It's National Applesauce Cake Day
(best way to eat applesauce...in a CAKE!)
---It's National Drive-In Movie Day
(We still have a few of them left, and it once was a staple of life when I was young)
---It's National Eyewear Day
(I dunno...today's world looks better when blurry)
---It's National Gardening Exercise Day
(I prefer to call it a labor of love)
---It's National Higher Education Day
(leftist professors need NOT apply)
---It's National Yo-Yo Day
(still have my Duncan Gold Award from the 70s. Can't get one for under $10, used)
---And, it's D-Day.
(the 73rd anniversary to be precise)
*** Next up, time to check out all the FWPD calls that we were not told about, because the media was busy reporting on president's Trump's exit from the Paris Accord.

*** Next, we had an active shooter situation at the Ravenscroft Beauty Academy yesterday.
Here's the lowdown:
http://wane.com/2017/06/05/shots-fired-at-local-beauty-college/
This place does get it's share of notoriety, doesn't it?
Anyone remember back in 2013 when a female student from Ravenscroft was shot and killed after being forcibly taken off a Citilink bus along Pettit (on the SE side, where else?) by one Kenneth Knight who was wielding a shotgun.
No worries, he was shot dead later.
(check my archive post from 21 march 2013 for the full story and pictures).
Kind of makes a person think twice about a career in cosmetology.
*** Next up, chickens in Fort Wayne? Here's that story:
http://wane.com/2017/06/05/proposal-for-chickens-in-fort-wayne-sees-some-resistance/
And, as you could imagine, this is not going over well with everyone...wonder why?
Can it be the salmonella? Bird flu? cock-fighting?
Hell, with ALL the Hispanics in town now, having chickens running about must make them feel like they're back home across the border. I say let's NOT turn Fort Wayne into a huge urban farm...keep the farm stuff ON the damn farms.
Well, this proposed ordinance DOES have a ban on roosters (good, hate to wake up THAT early anyway).
*** Next up...gee, ANOTHER piece of human crap gets a plea deal in a shooting.
Here's that story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/courts/20170606/murder-trial-canceled-as-plea-deal-struck
So, no trial for murder, and instead another 12 year sentence instead...this is becoming a very disturbing trend with this prosecutor's office .
((Charges of murder, carrying a handgun without a license and the use of a gun during a crime will be dismissed if Allen Superior Judge John Surbeck accepts a plea deal with prosecutors.))
Sure, why the hell not? Just make it easy to get away with crime...never make the punishment fit the crimes here.
Send a message to all the criminals that's it's okay to come here and commit whatever crime you want...the sentence will be minimal (if at all). yeah, welcome to "New Chicago", or is that "New Detroit"?
*** Next up, let's leave all this bad stuff where it belongs, and go visit "Kitten Corner"...
The kids are not missing "mommy" as much as I thought they would.
They do tend to hang more near me. Guess that's got something to do with FEEDING them...very perceptive of them.
And yes, there is no shortage of nap-time in between meals.
*** Next, how about we see what's shaking in our "Tales of Midnight"...
Our furry buddy is always on the patio early to get HIS food...nice to be "expected".
And he does like playing with the laser pointer. He's not partial to any particular color either. He'll chase them all...lol.
He's a good boy, and it's nice to have him around (won't have to worry about stray chickens in the future...heh).
*** Last back to the bastions...today we observe the D-Day lannding in Normandy...or we SHOULD.
That generation put aside their lives to take on an enemy bent on world domination...and decisively won.
We found that women could perform jobs meant for men, and do them just AS good (if not better).
And when all was said and done, the men returned home to go back to those jobs. Some started their own businesses.
In other words, we were prosperous in our employment.
These days, we see more and more technology nudging out the human factor from the workforce.
How is THAT making a career path ANY better? What about all those leaving school and wanting a job?
Used to be a college degree opened a crapload of doors when applying for a position (many of which would lead to a career)...can't even make that claim these days, unless you have a bloody doctorate.
We definitely cannot say that any job you take today will still be here in say 25-30 years (when retirement looms)...can we?
By the same token, we don't seem to demand (or even expect) those "on the dole" to seek employment to pay back all the government money they've been taking for years.
How does any of this justify the sacrifices made by that greatest generation when they stormed the beaches on D-Day?
In some ways, it doesn't, and that should disturb a LOT of us, and a lot more than we're letting on.
Good people die so that others may enjoy freedom, and it doesn't receive the appreciation it needs to receive.
I believe this nation is blessed, but such blessings are based on the provision that we do something to always make our country better; not dependent, not lazy, not divisive, not bellicose, and certainly not anything approaching anarchy.
And as such, any blessing from on high should be taken to heart, and with thanks.
It's an old-fashioned way ot seeing things, but we could use some of that right about now, hmm?
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

I'm kind of growly today, Bob. Your kitties cheered me up. I am ready for an island retreat. Problems, though. Money and dog sitters. Oh well, guess I could have an umbrella drink on the porch.

---Well, that's good that our "kids" managed to brighten an otherwise craptastic day (that's what they do)...
Yeah, I have not had a PROPER "vacation" in like TWENTY damn years.
I am LONNNNG overdue with that.

--No (good) neighbors to watch the house and cats.
--Plus, you can't go anywhere for a length of time and still feel good that everything that was IN your house will remain there (thanks to our criminal-intent "locals").
Whatta friggin' world, huh?

That umbrella drink sounds damn good...add a hose on the "mist" setting with some good tunes on the radio.
(a poor man's "at the shore" gig)
To me, that's as close as I can get (we don't even have a porch, just a patio...lol).

Thanks for rolling up today to comment.

Stay safe (and shoot straight) down there, dear.

Sick day today, so watch out for conciseness!

RBC: We were taking our walk, and from exiting the ravine trail, down the alumni pond, to the river, and halfway back home was nothing but sirens.

IDK on the chickens... I would expect the homes acquiring them to be inspected... but I suspect the city is prolly gonna look at the petty noise complaint battles they'd have to fight and shit can what could be a good endeavor for some.

I have said all I will say about the Blonde Phantom.

The nap picture is so precious...

Salute to the sacrifices made on D-Day... and the ones that followed. And a toast in hopes we don't end up having to fight this battle on our own shores someday soon.

---Sorry to hear you're feeling "out of phase".
Hope you're felling better tomorrow.
---I can imagine you heard a LOT of them...looked like every LEO was in both the NE and SE went there (explains why I didn't see around here...heh).
---I can tell you that if the city WOULD adopt the ordinance, you could well expect people (like some around us down here) would side-step (any) inspections and sneak them in anyway. That's the way they roll. Anything goes with them, remember?
---I just want to keep pointing out her office's FAILURES because there's too many of them, and others have to live with her poor judgment.
---That nap pic took PATTIENCE, too.
Not a daily occurrence, but well worth it when it happens.
---I pray you're right about NOT doing something similar HERE, and will join you in a salute to those from generations past.

Thanks for braving the day to stop by and comment.
Stay safe (and medicated properly) up there, brother.
