Monday Musings...
Here we are again, starting another "fun-filled" (what planet are YOU from?) week.
And, it would seem that our nation HAD to have some problems over the weekend.
Be nice to have some "good" staring us in the face when we wake up,
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us partly cloudy skies, temps reaching up to around 82 degrees, and the chance of a shower later this afternoon. That's not bad for late summer, is it?
I've got my coffee right here, so you take a moment and get something for yourselves, and together we'll try and figure out all the stuff that needs figuring out...fair enough?
*** First out of the microwave is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
AUGUST 14 -
---It's National Creamsicle Day
(the only thing I didn't like about these was how fast your TONGUE would stick to them...lol)
---It's National V-J Day
(and THAT brought a complete end to the second world war)
*** Next up, it appears we finally made it to homicide number TWENTY-ONE in Fort Wayne.
Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/20170814/body-found-at-boat-ramp-had-apparent-bullet-wound
Police found a dead man, who had been shot at the boat ramp near California Rd around 0800 hrs Sunday morning.
Officers were looking for evidence and witnesses (good luck with that one).
*** Next, a couple of crashes made the news.
1) The first one took place around 0800 hrs Sunday in the 2600 block of E. Capitol Ave.
A man was found by police in critical condition after he crashed into a tree while traveling west on E. Capitol.
Police do not know the cause of the crash.
(guess the tree that jumped out and BIT that pickup can be ruled out).
Looks like he was on the wrong side of the street to me.
2) The second crash took place Saturday night around 2149 hrs in the area of Maumee and Glasgow Aves.
After a routine traffic stop, the victim sped off, later loosing control of his vehicle and rolling over several times. He bailed from the crash, only to collapse and was then taken into custody.
He's in hospital in serious condition (I would imagine so).
The vehicle he crashed was recently reported stolen in Adams County.
(that'll be interesting to explain to the insurance company)
Police believe speed and alcohol played a prat in the crash.
How about some good old STUPIDITY, too?
*** Next up, we had some activity in our area late Saturday night.
There were 3 FWPD vehicles in the next block north of us, and I couldn't make out what exactly was going on.
I figured I'd wait until the police blotter posted the calls for the day. I found NO calls for that time or block anywhere.
Now THAT is pretty damn odd, considering there were NO sirens (one cruiser had the light bar on).
But to have THREE vehicles roll up means something had to be going on. NO traffic stop, no domestic, no assault...no nothing.
That's one helluva "unfounded" call, if you ask me.
*** Next up, Chris Martin had a very good take on the rally that turned fatal for one out in Charlottesville, VA over the weekend. Stop over to his blog and read Sunday's post.
This all stemmed from a statue of Robert E. Lee wanting to be removed. It turned into some sort of white-supremacy gig, and that led to trouble (deservedly so).
These "white nationalists" make my skin crawl, because the Nazi party was also made up of nationalists, so the comparison is scary (or should be).
I'm no more a fan of skinheads and neo-Nazis than I am of the BLM movement (and other similar black groups).
And who in their right mind would take a really NICE Dodge Challenger and drive it into a damn crowd? What a waste of a good car.
More importantly, what a tragic waste of an innocent life (of that young woman)!
Also, I'm not a fan of anyone who wants to remove statues that portray soldiers dying for our country. This revisionist history junket that too many seem to be on these days pisses me off.
The civil war statues are there to memorialize those killed during the Civil War...who were ALSO AMERICANS, regardless of which side of the war they were on, so get over that.
And, as civil wars go, we came out a BETTER nation after it (and it didn't last for generations)...can't say as much for other similar conflicts in other countries across the globe...can we?
*** Next up, time to drop on by "Kitten Corner"...
What? I'm behaving (most of the time).
The kids were pretty good over the weekend, but they had this crazy-streak going on early yesterday.
Like I say, the majority of the time they're good as gold, but every once in a while, they get in touch with their "wild" side and get to being bad.
Hey, I'm just watching the grass grow..
You'd think all the toys would take up the slack when it comes to behavioral issues.
The laser pointer helps tire them out and "work off" the excess energy.
Still wish they'd share that energy with me some mornings...lol.
*** Next, let's see what's going on with "Midnight and Company"...
"I iz posing for Momma Fargo, now."
Well, our ebony-furred buddy stayed close by most all the weekend, and that's always good to see.
What we DON'T see are the birds and squirrels that used to come by...whatta trade-off.
Whiskers all but lives here, but she did disappear for a part of yesterday. It was only Midnight getting some midday food.
"I iz posing too."
It would be nice if they could find a good home with loving people, as both cats are friendly enough to us (and run away when OUR friends stop by...not my fault). Both cats were wary of us when they first came around.
It takes patience to get that bonding thing going sometimes.
*** Last back to the stove-top...these are truly the times that try men's souls...
You can't go a single day without seeing proof that the road to hell seems to have become more of a multi-lane interstate highway. And there are plenty of people willing to pay whatever "toll" comes along.
This world of man is fast becoming a place in which I find my "comfort-level" diminishing to record lows.
And, it seems the harder mankind tries to "fix" it, the worse it becomes.
We've created more problems, rather than take care of the ones we already have (and have yet to address).
That's certainly not curing the ills of the world, or of our own nation, is it?
Maybe the lack of morality has much to do with this. I believe it does, and always will, until we can (as a society) get our collective heads out of our asses (or whatever other hole in the ground we find it), and start making the progress to better ourselves that we keep saying we desire.
The bickering, the hate, the angst, the fear...all of this has no place in a civil society, and people really need to take that to heart and want to change that.
Mankind has always found it easier to destroy than to create...and such destruction is getting a bit TOO easy these days.
Time to turn away from that and take the road LESS traveled.
Be well, make a difference to someone , and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Oh, it could be a good week- biggest challenge, as always, is my own attitude.

V-J Day- Dat's Da BOMB! (lol)

Okay, so we have a name for the guy that was found on the boat ramp- 27-year old Jason Underwood of Fort Wayne. A ne'er-do-well with a felonious record (as I predicted). For whatever reason, unlike any of the other media outlets, 21.com (or whatever their address is) claims the ramp is GRAVEL- strike one, all cement to the water, honey. Then they go out of their way to start speculation the body was dumped there- be kinda stupid with a heavily wooded area and swamp, as well as unobserved areas of the river, right nearby. Suppose it depends on if you were trying to send a message to the University, which also seems quite stupid.

Also, I find it amusing that it happened at the terminus of California Road, but ALL the stories mention "Near the 4100 block of Paul Shaeffer Drive", which is a third of a mile away.

I had given some observations to the FWPD on FB, but they want me to call the detectives. Well, I get off at 1530 and you close at 1700, you'd best be a bit faster about calling back.

As to the crashes, hopefully that was the other idiot in the botched New Haven GTA.

A-HA! Maybe Underwood was killed in YOUR neighborhood and dumped in mine. Not a good thing for US, is it? (LOL)

Thanks for the post pimping... so many sad things about this whole ordeal, from the BLM ers there with bags of piss to get things started, to the 'ad' that purports to show an LA company hiring protesters FOR the event, to all the fuss about HOW Trump addressed the issue... But the long story short is a beautiful young girl was killed protesting a frickin' statue that wasn't hurting her or anyone else. Let that sink in, people.

Multi-lane highway? No, in this world, it's a parking lot... and people are "tailgating" like a game is about to start.

Chris:
---The good news about having that good week...you're NOT alone in your thoughts there.
We work WITH challenges, and not ignore them.
---LOL...yes, it was at that.
---Underwood had a nice LONG rap sheet...checked it out. And, he moved around a few times in a couple years - typical.
Yes, it IS concrete right into the river.
---The police want YOU to call them?
They should be calling YOU (folks like us tend to know more, because we're not just driving through the area now and then).
I would tend to believe he was "dropped off", because there had been no reports of shots fired in THAT area.
Yes, I saw the news video...THAT WAS California Rd (we were there...I remember that).
---Love that "aha" moment...sounds more than plausible to me (but I live down in the crotch f the city...lol.)
---NO problem about th3 posts...truth is STILL TRUTH!
---Beware anything connected with "Antifa"...
---Well, if we COMBINE our individual assessments that it is indeed BOTH a highway AND a parking lot.
Ever see the RUSH HOUR near Los Angeles? LOL!
(only NO "diamond lane" in this case)

Thanks much for taking time to stop on by and comment.

Stay safe (and NCIS-driven) up there, brother.

Thanks for the mention of Chris Martin's take on the Charlottesville (not Charlotte, Chris!) massacre. In doing my background reading on the murder, I came across this article in Foreign Policy Magazine which published an outline of an FBI/DHS report indicating a trend in increased White Supremacist attacks one of which involved a murder in Fort Wayne last year. Wane.com has the story and the conviction details here:

Chris has a good head on his shoulders...no denying that.
This whole white supremacy trash grates on my nerves a lot.
If it's not one dumbass fringe group, it's another.
If we're not careful, we'll wind up like we did back in the Woodrow Wilson era (when the Nazi party held conventions in NYC)...
That's the last thing we need...another (un)civil war, right?
We've enough already with black and Latino gangs in America without the fascists rearing their ugly heads again.
Thanks for that link.
And thanks for taking time to stop by to comment.

Stay safe out there.
